You probably already got the story but basically the admin Speels is a disagreeable kinda character. Wow how's that for a family friendly response
. He made some inappropriate public statements given his position. Our favorite geek grandma tore him a new one politely. The real mass exodus of course came when jt said he was going back. As word spread like wildfire DL went from like 128 in fas-fro to like 54 by the time I finally logged out. And freenode went from less than 30 to more than 70 in like an hour or so.It made me ask why we left in the 1st place. Admittedly, freenode never actually closed or anything. I mean nemesis2all never left and a few others. Anyway, water under the bridge now. I think everyone is going to be happier back home. Also I think nitsuj17 has found it but for other SF friends and lurkers there are at least three channels. The old school samsung-fascinate, fascinate-froyo and of course fascinate-offtopic.
Also I wanted to take a public minute to address our community and say what a real treasure we have in jt1134. I mean that guy really is our Moses. Literally where he goes we follow. One of the best compliments we can pay him is ask to who has done the second most for this SF community because it is unquestioned and unchallenged who has done the most. I had the privilege of actually dialoguing [via keyboard] with him yesterday for almost an hour. This was before all the stuff went down in D-L. But I was humbled that he took that much time for me little ole me. Admittedly, it was quiet the exchange. I mean I had exchanged some PM's with the man before but nothing like this in terms of both quality and duration. I know those who've been around the SF for months know is reputation but with all the new joinees we've had lately I cannot be sincere enough when I emphasize the place of honor jt merits. I mean literally the man is a legend. We have so many jewels in terms of development for our SF, too many to list here [but definitely including the person Im replying too
]. Where we'd be without them Im glad I dont have to find out.OK off my soapbox if that was soapbox

all the drama aside, im glad that irc is back on freenode...its easier to use the web client at work 
it is a bit confusing to follow 3 or so fascinate rooms...although i do understand the reasoning for it
in any event, i dont spend nearly as much time in general chat these days as i did before, but its still nice to be back to *some* normalcy....although not everyone got my joke that i was "quitting irc, xda/af, and going to fascinateforums"

Hi samsung galaxy s problem which is probably my fault when i ring out i get no ringing sound my end and when person picks it up they can hear me but i hear nothing at all from their end .Please help as im getting frustrated ,fairy .

All this new Froyo/DL30/IRC/Freenode chat...it seems like I blinked and missed it all Man, I have to stop doing this. Real life DOES come first though (like you guys said), and has for me big time recently. Applying to graduate schools, building my own computer, studying for a certification exam and recently starting a relationship with an amazing girl are the things that have been keeping me from posting more frequently here [not that anyone cares, just thought I would specify ] Speaking of that, the only major things left that I need for my computer build are the motherboard and processor (a new Sandy Bridge i5 is what I was planning on). I was all set to order both yesterday when I find out about this 
Guess it's a good thing I didn't order those parts. Now I'm leaning toward the Phenom II x6 CPU. Who knows.
I agree saps. If we didn't have jt, we would be screwed. He has done an incredible amount of work for this community, and I am so glad we have him here Now I have to get back into irc and feeding my Fascinate some froyo in the near future
Glad to hear everything is going a lot better for you Kaessa, hopefully 2011 brings better health to the whole family

Howdy Howdy!
Youngstown born and raised. Just broke my latest cell. And, am finally bringing my digital life up to the standards of my working life (network admin).
Have decided on the Samsung Captivate...
1) I could worry this thing to death. A hundred pros and cons. Reading the reviews and looking at the thing, am going out tonite to the AT&T store to get me some Samsung Captivate action.
2) Why the heck not?
So, if anyone cares to help (and I appreciate any and all comments) I have never had a smart phone before. Have been doing cellular since my 5 watt bag phone (can anyone say "brain tumor") but always felt that I play enough with systems at work, why get a phone I can destroy myself?
Any insights on what I should start to trash out first? I am really psyched about this. To me, the equivalant of getting my first Linux box loaded.
The Internet being what it is these days, millions of hits for any questions asked, who knows where to start? So, this is it for me. Also, seems to be a friendly little place. I don't see folks getting smacked down for asking questions.
Where do I start? Yes, I would love to wait for the Atrix. But I need phone now. This is my jumping off point. Now, what do I do? I do not game. Or facebook. Or youtube. I make calls, take pictures, and manage servers and networks. Being able to VPN into corporate, and hit 'nix and Microsoft servers, and get into Cisco routers. That would be great!
And maybe I could even be a productive member of the group. Or, based on what happened to "free-DOS", maybe not...

Oh well...it was fuin but ive had it with this damn phone. I hate that I must be SERIOUS computer geek to get this damn thing to work they way they advertise it. I cant even mount my SD card without a head ach. Thats it, im unrooting, returning the phone and demanding something different. Im done with Verizon, im done Samsung. Im going over to HTC or a Droid X. Thats it. Im done.

Well red made the same post somewhere in the SF subsection. I wont repeat our exchange there other than to again wish him well and remind him and us all that our phone ownership does not dictate our friendships. Truth is most of us wont be on the SF this time next year.
Anybody got superbowl plans? Myself probably taking the kids over to some friends/family house with the big screen. Kids downstairs on wii, adults upstairs gorging, should be a nice afternoon.
On a semi personal note I kinda have some arm and hand issues which makes prolonged typing bothersome hence me being around these parts less than normal for me. So speaking as a trainer for those of you who work out [and I always do this anyway] but in the gym dont just tell someone spot me. Tell them how you wanna be spotted and even show them. Not saying people are stupid just saying we all have our own preferences. And when there is miscommunication or undercommunication problems can arise.
