Help Samsung Moment Tethering

I have downloaded everything correctly and got to the point where my computer is initializing connection with my phone, but goes now where. I have windows 7 and did what this forum said. PDANet said there is something about my connection manager but I can't find what they are talking about. Any ideas.
My remote access keeps saying the dependency service or group failed to start

Hello All,

Just picked up my Moment yesterday. Got rid of my Instinct... (did not like that phone)

Anyway, read this thread with interest and had to try it. Fumbled around for a while, of course nothing ever works right the first time, for me anyway...

Finally got the drivers installed, app installed, rebooted pc/phone and Presto! Internet works. Interesting thing though, at first it wouldn't work with Firefox. I had to launch IE first, allow it to connect, then launch FF... (?)

Worked solid for about 10 minutes then disconnected...
Oh well, at least I know it works!

Thanks!

Lance

I have PDANet and I realized that the only time mine becomes unconnected is when the low battery less then 15% left message comes up. It disconnects me from my win7 laptop too. But I dont need to restart the laptop and neither do you, just restart the phone and charge it for a bit and it should be fine when you reconnect. The moment is one of the first phones I have ever seen use batter 2x as fast as it charges.

The Touch Pro had the same problem with a standard USB port, it would drain faster than the USB port would charge it. You might try using a powered hub between the computer and the phone to get more amps pushed into the phone.

I have been trying like crazy to get this to work, followed everyone's instructions to no avail. But I stumbled across something that has worked to for me.

My problems was that I couldn't get the Samsung Moment Drivers to install on the computer, thus not allowing anything else to work. The problem lies with the Compatibility Mode when installing the drivers.

Try this:

Download the drivers from page 1 of this thread.
Extract the files.
Right click on the "Setup" file and select "Properties".
Click the "Compatibility" Tab.
(If the "Compatibility Mode" section is grayed out, click the "Change Settings for all users" button at the bottom of the menu.)
In the drop down menu select "Windows Vista (Service Pack 2)"
Click "Ok" on both menu screens.
Double click on "Setup".
Viola!

That is what worked for me anyway. Hopefully it can help someone else out as well! Good Luck!

I was able to do it on the HTC Hero using Azilink but it doesn't appear to work on the Moment! I'm looking for anyone that has successfully gotten tethering working! Any ideas guys?

I've tried to look for the definition online but it went over my head... Can anyone please explain what tethering means and does?

tethering is allowing you to use your phone's data connection as your internet connection for a computer. there's a wireless tether application out there for rooted phones, which allows you to connect to your phone wirelessly and then being able to surf the web... otherwise, most people use the usb connection to the computer to surf the web. right now, there are two choices for usb tethering - azilink and pdanet; pdanet doesn't allow https:// sites unless you buy it...

hope that helps.

It does, thank you.:)

I Was tethering the Instinct for nearly 2 years, then i got the Moment
This directions look thorough enough, but why use software?

Our work phones are htc i think and the other techs are syncing their phone to the laptop via bluetooth.

So i bought a micro bluetooth module for $2 on ebay including shipping.
Seems my laptop didn't come with bluetooth.
I shall report back in 4 to 6 weeks when the module arrives on the raft paddled from hong kong with my bluetooth to arrive.

I don't think Androids support Bluetooth tethering until OS v2.0. The Moment is stuck at v1.5 right now, so I don't think that will work yet. We are supposed to be getting that update in the next... few months, I think? So maybe by the time your Bluetooth module arrives, your phone will be ready for it.

Any particular reason not to use the "Dial-up networking" option in the settings? Can Sprint detect that/are other methods better/does this not work?

Hello, Folks! I am late to the game and the Moment is my first smart phone. My wife and I have the same phone and one of my selling points was that I would be able to get us to tether our laptops. Well I have gotten Azilink on my phone but am stuck at this point:

1) Install OpenVPN on the host. I use version 2.1_rc15, but any version should work. Apparently if you use version 2.0 you'll need to remove the NO_DELAY option from the AziLink.ovpn configuration file. You can find OpenVPN at: http://www.openvpn.net/

My question is do I do this on the phone or my laptop? I tried to get this on my phone but when I chose Redhat for example it gives me four differnt options. I chose one of those and I get:

Cannot Download. The content is not supported on the phone.

Can you guys help?

Regards,

Phil

I tried this to no avail.
I did not give up and after googling PDANET things went awesome! For the Samsung Moment you have to
1. Make sure that your phone is not connected.
2. Go to junefabrics.com/android/driver.php to get the drivers for your moment. I saved it to my desktop to easly find and open the setup application that has 47kb and install. To double check that your work is good go to ddevice manager and you will see that your phone driver is installed after you plug it in that is.
3. After doing this Click start go to computer and right click then go to properties.
From here you will see on the right side of the screen Advanced System Settings.
Systerm Properties will come up then you click hardware. I have windows 7 and it gives me the option here to click device installation setting. XP and other OP's will have something like this.
After clicking the device install settings chose no, never install driver software from windows update, and also unclick replace generic device icons with enhanced icons.
4. Now it is time to download PDANET from junefabrics.com/android/download.php
5. select run then next, accept, accept, next, next. Just follow what it says. I am pretty sure if you are reading this thread you have an idea how to do this. When you are asked to replace or change the driver say no.
6. Next you will be asked to plug in your phone, but first press menu on your phones home screen, settings, applications, developement and make sure the USB debugging is checked. Just follow what your computer screen says, but do not install the replacement driver.
7. Disconnect your exesting internet connection. Go to the new PDANET icon on your phone and press USB TETHER. Last you should see an icon in your active desktop. Right click icon and click connect. The World is a Better Place:)

Some of the info I got from Silver Express and some more from silver express. The rest was a lot of reading and connecting the dots. When I first read Silver Expresses info I only got part of the fix. I hope you enjoy.

Yeah, unfortunately I did try PDAnet and could not get it installed because there's no driver for the SAMSUNG_Android device out yet. I hope soon because tethering is really important to me!
