Got my update today. NOT impressed so far.at first it lagged worse then it did before, that finally cleared up, now my gps won't lock on anything.it found some but won't lock on any of them. Would that be because I'm in a building? I sure hope so. I'm loving this phone so far.

Yes, it could be because you are in a building, GPS is a line of sight technology. My dedicated $400 Garmin Nuvi won't work in my house but Vibrant will but sometimes a little slower. Try it in your car or outdoors to give it a fair test.

Yes I should have given it a fair chance. Works GREAT! Sorry for jumping the gun

After trying gps fix I am now very happy with its function. The problems I believe I was having was self induced.

hello everyone.

This morning i recive the update from tmobile, i started and the process went good, i have to wait for like a hour to restart.

for all those ppl that get stock on the galaxy s screen, you got to wait until your phone start, and is depend on your sd card if you remplace it for a 8 or biger will take for mor then a hour to start the phone.
my is 8g it take 1 hour to pass the galaxy s screen.

am only rooted with laucherpro no lag fix or gps and the update went good, i just want to report this.

thanks

I had root and the lag fix and had removed some bloatware when my notification came in. I removed the lag fix but did not unroot. Update applied and I got stuck at the splash screen. I followed the instructions abuve and used Odin to restore to stock and then mini-kies to install the update. It takes three or four minutes for GPS but I get 4 sats on average now.

I have a 16GB SD card and it took me 5 minutes to do the update and it starts normally thereafter which is about 1.5 min to go thru its routine.

Thank you! This worked for me. My phone is working and it appears that I have some degree of an upgrade. It's not Froyo, but I believe the old build number was ECLAIR and now it's ECLAIR.UVJI6.

Firmware version: 2.1-update1
Baseband version: T959UVJI6
Kernel version: 2.6.29
Build number: ECLAIR.UVJI6

Thanks to all the smart people that figure this stuff out!

John

Got my update today. After reading some of the post, I was a bit apprehensive but the process took about ten mitues (like they said) and it was pretty painless. I was totally stock and the update lost none of my files, contacts or apps.

The phone does seem more responsive after the update. The photo gallery doesn't lag sometimes as it used to. Market comes up a lot faster now. Everything seem to be more responsive overall. There were even nice little changes like the latest photos are on the left side in the gallery as opposed to right side like it used to... now I don't have to scroll past all my old pics to look at the ones that I just took. Very nice. The browse menu has brightnesss adjustment in the main menu and not buried deep in the menu like b

GPS? Mine worked okay before and working even better. Pretty happy with the update. Now I wait for 2.2.

Thanks for posting, I agree 100%. Just be careful, some very vocal people around here might not like hearing that your GPS worked before the update.

Received my update Friday around 5:30pm... Couldn't install until Saturday morning for my battery was low and I was in a wedding, and didn't get home until late... So plugged it in and let it charge overnight. Had to restart it because it still said battery was insufficient, but after a restart it updated just fine, in less than 10 minutes it had installed and rebooted (without much of a "stick" at the Galaxy S screen for me)

Before the fix I couldn't use my GPS at all... I had used it once around the area of Cassopolis Michigan and it took nearly 20minutes to even "find me" although the arrow was no where near where i really was... Tried the GPS out after the update and it's amazingly accurate! it locks on to at least 7 sats and took me to exactly where i needed to go even in the middle of nowhere michigan... told me to turn at the exact points i needed to turn.

Very happy so far with the update!

received the update yesterday afternoon, my phone was plugged in the usb charging, launcher pro on, rooted and lag fixed, still updated fine..locked on 6/10 gps this morning almost immediately

I got the update for my phone and it's screwed up.
My screen is now very bright and washed out and my phone is stuck in GPRS.

I am very P.O. about this. I ran a complete stock phone, had a case to protect it and now it messes up because of a software problem. Unreal

I have no idea what you people are doing to your phones.

I've had 2, the origianl and a warranty replacement because of a bad usb port. Both updated in >10 minutes and had zero issues at all.

Don't pull the battery because you think it's taking too long, don't re-boot, don't try to "help" it update in any way. Try having some patience and just leave it the F alone.

You people?
Listen I dealt with Android phones for almost 2 years so I am not a damn rookie.
This phone performed an update from a stock unit and now I am stuck in GPRS and my phone screen is washed out.
I spoken with T-mobile already and they already said I am not the first person to call with that problem.
