Root SBC or NO SBC kernel??

I have been a BIG fan of the SBC kernels, but here is what I have come to discover. The SBC kernel is only really good after initial charge when the phone is sitting still. I've sat at 100% for 3hrs. before...BUT once you start heavily using the phone...it drops at a high rate of speed. Seems much quicker than regular kernels, so I guess you need to decide which end of the batt cycle you'd prefer.

Yep, that's exactly what I observed. It stays as 100% longer, but drops at a much faster rate than before using SBC. As far as how "dangerous" they are, it seems unlikely that it will cause your phone to explode, but we probably won't know for several more months whether or not it decreases the life of the battery. I guess we'll see.

i also have observed this as well. now this was a while back when i first rooted my phone and sbc kernels and the debate about them first started. i will have to try some of the new sbc kernels that are out there and see if this is still the case.

better than netarchy kernals?

is there a list for kernals other than the "roms and kernals" page? If i remember correctly the kernals in there are not all that are available. i was looking for a kings unleashed kernal for my R3 rom I just flashed, although netarchy is doing ok on it at the moment.

I use Netarchy for Sense roms. Tiamat is only for AOSP roms that I know of. You can search on XDA for other threads for kernels as there are many that are not as popular as the ones most of us on here use.

I might try that myself. I am currently running Tiamat 3.3.7- SBC with Kings GB R2. I may switch to noSBC tonight and give it a few days to see if there is in fact a noticable difference.

I also run Kings GB R2 with tiamat nosbc 3.3.7 I get about two to two and a half days of battery with moderate use, with heavy use (tethering, text and some calls) I get a day to a day and a half.

Okay just flashed tiamat 3.3.7 sbc, will report in a day or two on how it does.

EDIT: okay so I forgot to ask this, novox said that SBC charges higher than what your battery indicator can read so how do I know when my phone is actually full?

I think I will stick with the SBC version til this weekend then switch to the nonSBC for a few days and see how the battery life differs.

I use battery monitor widget to keep track of how it is actually charging.

I noticed the BIG drop with SBC. Went from 100% (8:00 am) to 97% (2:30 pm). From then on, it went from 97% (2:30 pm) to 10% (7:00 pm)

I might give SBC a try now after reading Novox77's post.
Plus I have 3 batteries total, so why not just wear and tear a couple of them.

Anyone know anything specific of how these SBC's operate in respect to being on a car charger. Under a "normal" battery charge configuration I have always noticed that my phone gets hot on the car charger.

Even though the SBC's kinda push things beyond normal thresholds, there is still some cutoff point so my car charger doesn't smoke things?

Then again I guess I could get one of the kernel that allows for turning off SBC and do so for long road trips and using GPS.
