Root Setting Up AOSP Roms

I have been running Sense roms since being rooted. I think I am gonna try some AOSP roms like CM7. I am wondering if there is any certain tips or tweaks that should be applied to these kind of roms? I run the V6 script, 3G Turbocharge, SetCPU, and a tweak to increase SD read speed and some ram tweaks on all the Sense roms, do these same things work on AOSP roms too? Are there scripts made for the AOSP roms that I should use?

Are there any AOSP roms that are clear favorites that I should try?

cm7 has its own cpu scaling built into its settings. you may need to flash a gps driver to help with your gps. here is the link:[FIX][AOSP][MIUI] All GPS fixes! - xda-developers

also you need to flash the gapps file as well.

Do not run SetCPU with CM7 there are issues with it. CM7 has its own CPU settings screen. Also if your are going to flash a new kernel make sure it is an AOSP kernel and not a Sense Kernel. I have been running AOSP Roms and really I don't ever use scripts. I feel like I have a good responsive phone with out needing more stuff to stick into memory which ironically slows it down. You should also make sure you read about the rom you plan to install. Not all of them support 4g and some have wifi issues. Also you may need to fix your GPS. I did a basic tutorial a couple of days ago you can check it out here.

What issues do you see with setcpu? I normally have it installed on aosp without any issues.

the time i had it setup on CM7 (I to use it on other AOSP and have no issue's) I was in wake lock then after pulling the battery I could not reboot. it just hung at the splash screen for about an hour. I checked the CM7 Forums and saw that apparently both together cause problems. So when i nandroided back i removed SetCPU and had no issues with it.

Weird I don't think I've ever had any issues. One thing it does that the rom can't is profiles. Normally they aren't needed for screen off depending with the governor but for battery level or temp profiles it can be useful.

yeah for me i do not like a lot of profiles when i use setcpu anyways. i always use cm7's cpu scaling with the smartass governor. add in the tiamat kernel and my battery life is amazing.

Yeah, I agree. That's what I normally run too. So yeah, it really isn't necessary since the CPU stuff is built into the rom, but the rom can't do as many different things as SetCPU can do.

After flashing the asop rom of your choice and start setting it up how you want it I would suggest to just make a nandroid back up if you feel the need to go back to sence. That way when you get the urge to try it out again you can pick up where you left off. This is what I did after reflashing cm7 from scratch a few times. I now have a nandroid of cm7 and a few other roms that I like to switch to and they are all set up like I like them and has I add things to them I just do another nandroid and delete the previous one. There is also An app that alows you to boot different roms but I havent tried it so maybe someone else can tell you about that.

How is the latest Tiamat kernel(4.10) working? Should I use that one or 3.3.7?

4.1 works fine, plus you will the Smartass v2 governor. With this governor and SetCPU, I would recommend not to use any screen on/screen off profiles. Set your overclock and underclock speeds and let the governor do the rest;)

yeah i agree. kernels are very hard to predict how they react on phones. and they never react the same way on every phone. so try both of them out and see which one works best. so far anytime tiamat has an updated version my phone seems to agree with them. the latest one is working great for me. i avereage about 18-20 hrs with very heavy usage so i'm happy.
