There are a couple of 'leaked' memos suggesting that stock is in store, ready to go on sale tomorrow (12/7) and they're assuming that Play order's won't arrive after the device is on sale in store.

I'll believe it when I get home from work and there is a box on my doorstep.
BTW, did you get your tapatalk issue figured?
Meanwhile, Office Depot (in a leaked memo obtained by Droid Life) says that shipments should begin July 12th, but doesn't seem to specify when they'll actually go on sale.
Here's one reason why the actual sale date might still be up in the air: We received a leaked memo from GameStop that suggests the video game retailer already has the tablets ready to go, but has been ordered not to actually sell any of its inventory until further notice. Note that the original sale date here was supposedly July 12th. We've confirmed the memo with three separate GameStop stores, and we just got this statement from GameStop PR:Right now, we are waiting for ASUS and Google to coordinate and provide us with an official sell date. In partnership with them, we have instructed our stores to hold the merchandise and not sell until the vendor-approved date, much like we do with street-dated video games.
Nexus 7: when and where can you get one? | The Verge
I just don't get it. If places like GameStop actually have them in stock waiting to sell, why isn't Google shipping pre-orders now?
Maybe a Jelly Bean problem they are trying to fix before they begin selling?
Perhaps they want an iPhone like stampede where we line up in the thousands and burst through the staples store doors destroying the large red "that was easy" buttons nation wide in pure nexus rage...

So they did in fact arrive at my store today and as of right now the release stands for my store to be tomorrow. I'm passed because if I could cancel I would just buy one here since non of these are peorder. Yesterday I said that we where told there would be a sticker saying do not sell until July 12th but that was not there. I date for this store is still 12th. xda-developers - View Single Post - The all-in-one Play Store orders/shipping/etc thread
Could be. Android 4.1.1 was only just released and they may be working to load this point release on all devices before they are shipped. I suspect most of us would prefer to receive the device and let 4.1.1 download. :smokingsomb:
Nope, were going to get the OTA when we open it.

Google’s Nexus 7http://www.geeky-gadgets.com/google-nexus-7-gets-android-4-1-1-update-11-07-2012/# is expected to land in retail stores some time this week or next week, but for those people who attended Google’s I/O and got one of the Nexus 7 tablet, Google has released a new software update for the device.
The update is Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean, and it was released as an OTA update for the device with a size of 12.6MB, the update seems to include a range of bug fixes.
Saw a post on G+ too someone talked to a Nexus Rep this morning and he said they were shipping the June preorders today
