Siyah kernel - Dummies Guide

Well, it's up!
Let's give this little fella a bash.

;)

Edit.
As quick as it was up, it's gone again. Geeves, fetch the hounds!

Had to flash it via mobile odin as zip file wouldn't flash via cwm saying installation aborted... Anyway working fine so far :)

Before I flash this, does anyone know if ExTweaks is still going to work with this new release? I would think that it would, but we all know what happens when you assume....

dunno bout extweaks but Stweaks are working... flash .tar file via odin and there u go :) good old siyah working like a charm! +touch recovery as in siyah 5.0.

no video recording will be a bit of a bummer over the xmas period tho
:(

I'll stick to Jeboo for now which is now on 1.0d which includes init.d support

beta2->beta3: video recording is fixed. possible fixes for headphone amplification and mdnie negative effect. gpu voltage initialization is fixed (the default values were not being initialized. please reset stweaks settings). powersaving mode workaround which will throttle cpu speed to 800MHz when powersaving mode is selected.

Not downloadable yet though?

Don't Know If I Just Got A Dodgy Download, But The Cwm Zip File Didn't Work With Me, Yet Again :-( Aborted During Installation :-(

I love it when Gok gets the bit between his teeth. I feel a Siyah flashing session and mess about coming on later. No alcohol for me today as I'm on call, which makes for a sober flashing session.

I have been on 6.0 beta4 for most of the day, and so far it seems very stable especially... for a beta. The only issue I have had so far is that STweaks doesn't remember its settings after reboot, but that was put in the changelog so its to be expected.

I am glad to have a Siyah kernel back on my phone.......its been much too long! :D

It speaks volumes about gokhanmoral, developer of the Siyah kernel, that even though he no longer owns the SGSII, he has bent over backwards to try to make sure that we are not left out and have a configurable kernel rather than just ditching us for pastures new. A true, "Gentleman and a scholar!"

I am on the Siyah v6.0beta4 release which is the first one I have been able to flash via CWM Recovery. All the rest were .tar files flashed using Mobile Odin.

I have re-booted a few times since installation and have managed to retain my personal settings every time!

By-and-large, I have left the majority of settings, "as is", with just a few exceptions, BLN being the big one for me, and am running it in conjunction with the stock JB Power Saving menu to see what happens. Far too early to talk about battery consumption yet but I have not experienced any lags or FC's to-date.

EDIT If you are using Power Saving you will need to manually set the, "CPU MAX FREQUENCY", to 800MHz in STweaks as Siyah seems to override this. Not sure if it is doing the same to other Power Saving settings so far.

Yes, gokhanmoral is a genuine and decent bloke. The flak and vitriol he puts up with at XDA shames that place.

Not had chance to flash yet as call was busy and I'm back at work properly today. :(

On a separate, and entirely different note, our resident "Hawker baiter", Ironass has reached 5000 posts. Where do you find the time matey?

I've Still Not Been Able To Flash Any via Recovery :-(

ToO Cheap For Mobile Odin, And Can't Be Bothered With The Hassle Of The Laptop(It Crashes On Us, Kinda, The Screen Goes Black And It Won't Come Back On Until Its Been Turned Off For A Few Hours!)

Will Stick With Jeboo For Now :-(

Hmm, rebooting resets everything to the defaults for the active profile here. I tested it by setting the governor to pegasusq and smooth_scaling_level to 800MHz; neither persisted after a reboot.
