Siyah kernel - Dummies Guide

Siyah v3.1.1 is out!!

Changelog (from da site):
- applied latest cm9 initramfs changes
- if you use cm9 as your second ROM, remember that internal sdcard location is /mnt/sdcard and it is fixed. you should have Settings->Storage->(Press menu)Storage Configuration->Use internal storage TICKED but the internal/external storage order will be reverse if you use cm9 as second ROM.
- this kernel may not be compatible with some aokp based roms until they start using new cm9 convention for mount points. in that case use v3.1rc6.
- increased min_free_kbytes to 16384 to see if it fixes wifi toggling issues (thanks to wjchen)

SiyahKernel v3.1.2 is out

Changelog:

fixed cm9 mount point problems
modifications in secondrom booting and mounting methods. you will be able to mount both sdcards using USB Mass Storage mode in the second ROM. just make sure you don
 
I'm going to give v3.1.2 a try with D4 v7.0, just out of curiosity. I'm real happy with v3.1 so far - no problems and better idle drain overnight than GingerMOD with v2.6.14.

The good news is that v3.1.2 works.
The bad news is that I'm completely confuddled as to wtf is going on with the storage. I got internal mounted as /emmc, external as /sdcard, CWM only recognises external and Setttings/Storage shows external as internal and vice versa!

Now reverting to my v3.1 backup to compare and maybe make sense.

edit#2:
Using v3.1, internal storage mounts as /sdcard and external as /emmc. Enabling the "D4 ROM" option "External SD on /sdcard/external_sd" creates the sub-folder in /sdcard but with no content. CWM only recognises the internal storage volume (/sdcard). Settings/Storage reports correctly.

I'll stick with this config.
 
I'm running v3.1 and i have been getting a lot of the kworker process. Has anyone else been getting this? I've never had them high like this before on any of the previous GB kernels.

I had hydrog3n on with this beta last night and lost 36% in 6 hours! Don't know if it's kernel or ROM related as there were no suspicious wakelocks. It got stuck on 800mhz part through the night due to a gps call.
I'm back on d4 with the previous siyah for now. May try this beta on this ROM later.

hello guys, how to update the kernel? now i have 3.1.2. do i still flash the new beta to my cwm to put on top of my old one or do i need to delete cache, delete davlik etc...? ty
 
Downloading Siyah v3.2 beta2-2 (that's a mouthful!)

One of the changes says "native aosp led notifications", I wonder how that works with SGS2?
 
v3.2b3 went up earlier this morning.

I get total freeze when trying to wake up the phone from idle on beta2
Just testing beta3 now....worked first time i tried. I'll let it sleep a little deeper before trying again!
 
guys, can i just flashed the new version to cwm right away or i still need to delete cache, delete data, delete batery stats etc... and then flashed the new version? ty
 
Once rooted, and on a BLN enabled kernel, you can install the BLN control app from the market, and when you get a new text message, your white LEDs behind the menu and back buttons will come on and stay on until you use your phone. If you purchase the Pro app, they will also work for missed calls.

ty hawkie! i just downloaded the app from the market. how do you set the correct settings for this? ty again.
 
Just go into the app you downloaded, tick Enable, and that's all you need to do.

However, if you use the stock messaging app, you may have problems on some ROMs. I couldnt get it working on AndyX or Wanamlite, but it works fine on AndyX using Hancent.

im not sure if it is how it works, i used stock messaging app, and i have andyx v11 rom and siyah 3.1.2. but when i tried to send a text message to my self, the whole screen lits up, i dont see any changes at all. i enabled the apps though.
