Root So, now they say we will have to sbf to receive update

^ And not to mention that if we installed beta versions, root access, and the like, we are probably smart enough to get the OTA if we really wanted it.

Why be upset? Did you really think you were going to be able to accept the OTA on anything other than the supplied Verizon OS?

You're kidding me. I can't get the OTA unless I'm on a stock verizon version of the os? Whaaaa! How can this be? Ummm.....well duh. That's to be expected. The only thing I don't like about this .595 is all the ads man. What gives with that crap.

Aaaggghhh. Had to go back to Uncle Froyo. Tether (the app) on GB kept dropping after 5-6 minutes. I'll root it so I can freeze a couple apps then "wait patiently" for the update.

A friend of mine had this same problem only he is running Froyo 2.2 so I don't think this is a GB issue. It's more likely Verizon has done something to curb tethering.

I don't think that people are upset/shocked at Motorola. The reason that most people are upset is that P3Droid posted last week, in a very confident manner like he had real inside information, that there would be an upgrade path from .595.

Mistakes happen, it is usually very hard to tell what inside information is credible/useful and what is just speculation until something is actually released. I have no problem with the situation, root for .596 will come soon/eventually, so I'm fine with my .595 rooted for the time being.

Made you work a little harder to do it? Yeah. A little. They won't stop it until they send out that little message that says, "We see you tethering, so STOP or we'll charge you next month!" :D

he was very confident...and this information came from the same sources he has always had...

if you notice in his more recent tweets he has said "rules have changed"

to me, this says that there was originally a plan to allow this...but that someone changed their mind...and his source told him about it...

Yeah that's all I meant when I said "curb". They haven't stopped it totally, just slowed you down.

Your wish is my command. Going forward, you can get speedier service if you use the "report" button stating your request. :)

We now interrupt your thread for this important quandary.....

How mad would you mods get if we reported your posts and just said "Steven is awesome" lol

Back to the topic at hand..........

So since this is happening can someone lead me in the right path to getting to .595 rooted deodexed? I installed the stock version of this and do not want it if I can't get the OTA. Thanks

Root it with Gingerbread and flash the deodexed file...

Though unless you're going to install themes you night as well just root and forget about the deodexed version...

You mean gingerbreak? And is that in the market? If I have a backup of .595 can I just reload that onto it?

They wouldn't get mad. They know it. They love me. :)

You can try to root it with gingerbreak. If that works, great, just flash the .595 deodexed right over it and you'll be all fine and dandy.

If that does not work (and its entirely possible) your only options are to SBF and start from stock (then rooting, going to .588, then going to .595) or to wait until someone releases a new rooting tool with an exploit that will work on the newer gingerbread versions. Might take a while though.

Now that I have done my sbf back to 340 and rerooted what apps need to be frozen to avoid the ota.
