Root Sprint update LS855ZVC kills root. Solutions?

Reading through this and other threads:

1) it does not appear that anyone has confirmed that OTA Rootkeeper works to allow update AND keep root;

2) I have not seen a post (though one might exist) on how to stop the update from installing/continually reminding you to update.

Until someone roots this new update, the best solution appears to be to NOT install it.

Anyone know how to prevent installation AND turn off the notifications?

Thanks.

I was dealing with this for about a week or so before this thread and at the time seemed like I was the only one suffering from this. I was really beginning to question myself.

I don't know much but, for the few that did the update and can not revert back, can we not just flash an older version of the official rom? I guess if it was that easy we all wouldn't be here waiting for a workaround.

And I wish I knew about Rootkeeper, just found out about it from this thread =(

I could..I have the original .cab as well as the .kdz for LS855ZV9...All I'd have to do is flash it through KDZ updater. It would be easy, actually. Saving it as a last resort, though. I can go for a bit without root while we pick and tear this update apart.

If you go up a few pages, I shared my dropbox link containing the update. Not sure how you will be able to update it though, like via cwm?

Well I successfully updated while keeping root and cwm recovery. I had to go back to stock then root install cwm recovery and then I made a special update zip and flashed it in recovery. I'll upload it shortly for those that want it. Just a few more tests.

Just like a rom install the zip. One thing that you may notice that is a little different is that when the radio is being installed that it goes to the s/w upgrade screen. Don't freak out it happens and takes a few minutes don't try to stop it.

i dont have sprint anyway, im just getting a new boost rom prepared, then once boost releases the update and i can get the new radio it will be finished.

edit: which will probably be the same one

Your probably right. I think that you could get it to work by just changing the build prop and in mms.apk change the settings from sprint mms to boost mms and it should work 100%...... also probably want to remove sprint id.

You can overwrite the radio firmware with CWM? Is it possible you can put the current version into an update package? Perhaps I can use it to wipe out the defective radio firmware or erase something that went bad. Since if that doesn't work then a phone update wouldn't help in the first place. I'm about to ship off this phone soon and I want to do some last minute changes that might save me a lot of time. :D

I am on Sprint running Playfulgod's ROM. I wiped cache, wiped data, then flashed the zip. It flashed and went back to recovery but then won't boot, just sits at the LG screen with the keys flashing. When I restore my backup I have the zvc radio, so at least got something for my trouble.

Nice work asadullah, thank you! Followed your instructions, and I'm running the ZVC update with root and CWM, and no more system updates. When I downgraded, it downloaded the update to /cache, then I rebooted and installed your update (did not wipe cache or Dalvik), and it rebooted, did a firmware check, and automatically deleted the update in /cache. Seems it worked for me too. Confirmed.

Hi asadullah, can I ask why is it necessary to go back to stock first?

My current configuration is Sprint stock, but I have rooted it and installed CWM. I have also installed the 3g Turbo and V6 patches by Zepplinrox and various apks that require root (like Titanium Pro, AdFree, etc). Can I just install you update.zip without going back to stock (since I'm already on a somewhat modded stock)?

By the way, if I have to go back to stock, where can I find the stock version for Sprint? Seems like everything here in this forum is Boost Mobile.

I'm sorry to be the dumbass here, but can someone please confirm that this is the correct process:

1) Flash to stock ROM (linked from iMonster);
2) Re-root and install cwm recovery;
3) download asadullah's zip;
4) reboot into CWM;
5) using CWM, install the zip;
6) smile.

If so, anyone know how to accomplish #1 on a Mac? The KDZ updater and instructions on flashing to stock ROM are for Windows.

Only necessary to go back to stock if you've already updated. If still on ZV9, you can flash his zip.

I'm not going to pretend that I know half of what everyone is talking about, but I do have a rooted phone (boost) and would prefer to keep it that way. I don't have the phone lockup issue, so other than that, if and when I receive this update, does it improve on enough that it is worth upgrading to, to lose my root?

Also, can I ask, what is being referred to about the radio being installed? Is that the cellular connection, and if my phone has a high cell standby due to time without a signal, is this something an update could address? Sorry for my complete lack of knowledge in this arena.

Same here. I gave the update a try after it was mentioned on AndroidCentral forums. The update was performed as follows, from Stock ROM:

  • Install LG Drivers on Windows XP, enable Debugging
  • Root phone using Esteem OneClickRoot
  • Run CWM for Marquee installation
  • Install ROM Manager
  • Open ROM Manager and set up CWM for Marquee
  • Create a backup
  • Download asadullah's zip
  • Click on zip. ROM Manager opens.
  • Select "Delete Dalvik Cache / Delete Data"
  • Allow phone to update and reboot

My Marquee is now sitting on the LG screen with keys flashing. Any advice on what I should do next to recover?
