Root Step by Step Rooting Instructions: for Huawei Ascend

On that same page as CM 7.2 you'll see a link "Latest Gapps: gapps-gb-20110613-signed.zip" download those and flash them after you flash CM 7.2

Also down below "Helpful hints" you'll see " Download the latest version of MetrOFF: MetrOFF-v1.3-MMS-GB-Edify-CM_ASOP-No_Roaming_indicator_Off_signed.zip" download that too. But dont flash it when you flash CM7.2 and the Gapps. Wait a day and go thru some reboots and let things settle then flash it.

Also make sure to back up your current ROM so you can just restore it in case something goes wrong or your phone just doesn't like a certain build.

I seem to be having trouble, when I try to back up, it just restarts and it freezes on the Huawei logo for a long time, any ideas?

Are you trying to backup with CWM recovery, or through ROM Manager? If you are using RM to flash CWM, you might have to push it twice to flash it.

Yeah, z4root only works on 2.1. And to get rid of unwanted apps my personal choice is Titanium Backup.

Sorry for not understanding, It just doesn't want to work, I can't back up or install anything. Whenever I try to it just reboots the phone and the Hauwei logo stays there. It is a long process? Am I suppose to hold buttons? Also, I try to run fix permissions and that don't work either. :(

Screw ROM Manager. Do it this way.

Download this and put it on the root of your sd card. (Root meaning not in a folder)
3.0.2.8 recovery.img

Then download this from the Market. (Its free)
https://market.android.com/details?id=jackpal.androidterm&feature=search_result

Then open the terminal emulator you just downloaded off the Market and type this in:

su (hit enter)
flash_image recovery /sdcard/ x.x.x.x recovery.img (Hit enter) (**x.x.x.x, type in the recovery img's name dont type it in as x.x.x.x)
exit (enter)
Now you have clockworkmod recovery on your phone.

Now go to the PlayfulGod link I gave you and download those 3 links I told you too. And put them on the root of your SD card.

Reboot into recovery by turning the phone off and while holding the send key and the volume up key and tap the power. You will then go into recovery mode.

Once in recovery mode, scroll down to "Advanced" then to "back up and restore" then choose "backup"

Once thats done hit your back key so you are back on the main screen. Go to "wipe data/factory reset." confirm it.
"Wipe cache partition". Confirm it.
Go back to advanced and select "wipe dalvik cache" Confirm it
Hit your back key and go to mounts and storage and format everything EXCEPT your sd card. Sd ext is okay to format but do not go format sd card. It will erase everything off your sd card if you do.
Then go back to the main, and go to "Install zip from sd" then to "Choose zip from sd" and select the ROM you choose and confirm it. It will them flash your phone.
Once thats done go back to "Choose zip from sd card" and flash the Gapps file.
Once thats done hit your back key so you are back on the main, and go to "advance again and select "fix permissions"
Then hit your back key and go to the top and select "Reboot device"
Your phone will reboot and you will have Gingerbread on your Ascend. When your phone reboots you will have to put your Gmail account info in and then your done.

You will have no metroPOS apps and you will have to redownload any apps you had before. When your phone reboots its basically going to be a brandnew phone without jack on it.

Then you arent typing the command in right, Theres spaces you need to put the spaces in.

You can also do it this way. I just like doing that way.

*Note* Phone must be in debugging mode- Go to Settings > Application settings > Development and check USB debugging.

1) Download the CWM Recovery file and unzip it to your desktop

2) Attach phone to USB

3) Power Phone Off

4) Enter Fastboot (press End Call + Volume Down while powering on the phone). Your Huawei Ascend will boot to a white background with the Huawei logo in the center.

5)Run the script relevant to your OS from the CWM Recovery folder that you extracted earlier

A) For Linux users -Run the "install-recovery-linux.sh"
B ) For MAC users - Run the "install-recovery-mac.sh"
C) For Windows users - Run the "install-recovery-windows.bat"

6) When you run the appropriate script, you will see a command prompt window open and disappear. When the window disappears, CWM is installed.

7) You will not be able to power off your phone, so take the battery out of your phone for 10 seconds and replace.

Now you are able to boot into CWM recovery. To boot into recovery, press Send + Volume Up while powering on the phone and keep Send + Volume Up pressed while booting. Now you should be inCWM recovery.

So, I keep getting Android.Process.Media has stopped unexpectedly. I cleared the cache for media storage, but still not working.

I can't download anything from market, is that normal?

EDIT: Nevermind cleared cache and data its fine now. :)

I downloaded z4 root i didnt work then i downloaded gingerbreak and it rooted my phone now i need help gettin unwanted apps off my phone i tried ti bu nut it didnt work help me please
Use the newest version of Root Explorer. Change the r/o to r/w

I do and it crashes, I have two camera apps in there.

WTF, it works now randomly, and there is only one app. what the hell?

I probably will when I get a chance to, hey is anyone familiar with the SixAxis Android App? It allows you to use the PS3 Six Axis Controller with the android device? I wanna know what emulators are compatible.

does this root it too?

Yes.

Shiny, its compatible, I got it working but I can't find an emulator that works with it.

I am a fan of Old school video games, child of the 80's really. Just wondering if anyone had any experience with it or even heard of it.

Oh yea one question, so I lost the bloatware blah blah, what if I liked one app that was bloatware and wanted it back, anyway of getting a APK file for them?
