thats weird anyways its good to have both never know if one of them acts up u always have the other for back up.
 
All of you should have Google Goggles installed. Its free and does many amazing things including barcodes and QR codes.

Just point your phone at the computer monitor and VOILA it will let you download it

ive had it for 2 weeks already its cool to have even serves as a translator if ur reading something in som other language and u dont understand it.
 
Make sure you go to settings > change device profile > Samsung Epic 4G. And blam there's your fully loaded wifi tethering that allows even mobile devices to connect. I tested this with a Huawei Ascend I had spair, and course tested my laptops.

I take no credit for finding it, as I was instructed to try this via the #indulge at IRC.

Just because there aren't many people helping to code the app and something more important always came up. One author told me "As soon as I can find some time I will rewrite the "supported devices"-section." referring to the application itself based on the context of the discussion.

Works great but two snags. Setting for epic freezes my phone so set for auto detect and solved. I reduced transmit power which works and am obsereving battery consumption.

Cannot download torrents. Any ideas mates?

metro is probably blocking but I'm not sure I havent tried.
 
Since we're talking about snags, anyone else's phone randomly shuts off while wifi tethering?
I know it's not the battery cause it was at 85 percent let time it happened.
A quick google search tells me that at least one samsung fascinate user its experiencing this ( see issue932 on android wifi tether's bug report page).
Other than that, anyone else seen this interesting &#8220;feature&#8221; before, or know what's causing it?

nope hasnt happened to me durring tethering.

It has happened to me before though, at random times. I think its just the phone or something samsung did within android.
 
My area has bean experiencing intermittent 4g. The network is new and I expect better service as all of the bugs are worked out.


Other possibility get the phone closer to your wireless adaptor.
 
Hey Mike I am having some problems getting this wifi tether to work.

I rooted phone and got root checker to make sure everything was installed correctly. I downloaded and installed the wifi tether app and changed the settings like you said to.

My computer recognizes the wifi connection as android tether and will connect to it but when I try to actually surf the internet it says I have no internet connection. I actually have service on my phone I have 2 bars and the 4g symbol. I tried to run the network diagnostic thing on windows and it says there may be a problem with the DNS servers.

I am a complete newb when it comes to all of this so if you could give me some tips on something it may be that would be awesome. Could a firewall have something to do with it? I have zonealarm pro but when it first detected the wifi I told it to put it in the trusted zone so I dont think thats it. Please help!
 
nvm I seem to have gotten it working now, I just uninstalled everything and re did it and it seems to be working now. I am only getting 50kb a sec though :/, wish there was a way to improve it. I was getting about 84kb/s with easy tether. Does anyone know if there is a way to download torrents?

Good, glad you got it sorted.

As far as torrents are concerned, I believe they are blocked by Metro. In order to get around that, you would need to look into removing the proxy info from your phone. I can't tell you how to do that exactly (as I have not done it) but that should get you going in the right direction. Good luck.
 
To remove the proxy from your phone, use Better Cut and make a shortcut to the Activity Proxy Settings.
From there, you can easily clear out/edit the settings to your liking.
I left mine blank, for instance, and am now enjoying uncensored internet!
 
Did you mean "Any Cut"? Because I did just that, went in there and mine were blank already. Am I missing something?
 
hmm well i am having serious service issues with this phone. I used to have a crappy samsung phone with just the 40 dollar plan and was able to pick up the normal slow internet on it at my house and work.

I just picked up the indulge yesterday and cannot get this thing to pick up a signal. I had 4g signal at my house for a few hours last night. But now at work all day and now at my house I cannot pick up any internet at all. If I do pick it up I just get the little 1x sign and it may stay on for about a minute max and it shuts off and I have nothing. I am not sure if it is the phone or my location but I know metro has 4g in my area. When I do actually get signal my download speed is about 9kb/s which is almost like not having internet. I just spent 400 bucks on this phone and cant use any of the features, I dont know what to do.

not sure what this has to do with tethering, but metro is having issue with their data network. It may not be your phone at all and you would see this with any phone on metro. Its happening with 4 phones i have here, both indulge and non indulge phones.
 
hi i wanted to know before i try this out does the phone need to be rooted ? or can i leave it stock ? and just add the wifi apk with astro
 
The root script is actually a root/unroot bundle.
Meaning you can use it to either root your phone or remove the root access you previously had.
So yes, you can unroot it! :)
 
Where do I start? I guess I'll start with me and how I got here and try not to completely embarass myself with repetative or stupid questions. I bought the Indulge the day it came out and like most of you was disappointed that it had the tethering option disabled. So began my search or research into how I could make my phone a hotspot. Upon googling my solution I found this thread, Tethering with no root required where I read the tactics used by Mike to attempt tethering. Then found another link to this thread from there I believe. I have to say Mike is a freakin genius, but frankly all you guys scare the living crap out of a layperson like myself. What you guys learned from each other in a couple of days using this thread is nothing short of amazing. It would have taken me, well nevermind, I would have never figured out any of it. I have read this discussion back and forth several times trying to understand as much as I can but to be honest it's over my head. I would like to try this root bundle or whatever it's called but to be honest the onlything I can do is download it. So I need an idiot proof set of instructions on how to use this bundle. Keyword being IDIOT PROOF. But one thing worries me. How do I uninstall this in the event of a warranty issue? Once again I need an IDIOT PROOF set of instructions also on how to unistall it and make the phone appear unmolested. If this is too much to ask since none of you guys no me from Jack, I understand, but it would be most helpful and just awesome if someone could help me out with the idiot proofing. Furthermore, it would keep other idiots like me from asking annoying and repetative questions. All jokes aside, you guys did a hell of a job figuring this out. I hope to hear back from someone that can put me on the right track. Thanks for any help. -DarkHorse281
