Root Successful root, now follow up questions.

Hey guys!
So I successfully rooted my husband's OpV & installed gingerbread using the n00b-friendly guide here: http://androidforums.com/optimus-v-...-how-simplified-root-recovery-custom-rom.html Yay! :D

Now that I'm gearing up to do my own OpV, I have a couple followup questions.
1.) What is the smallest SD card a person could get away with having to get the above job done?
2.) Now that this is all said & done on his phone, do we need to keep all the files I used to do it with on the SD card or can they be deleted? (I can't imagine you'd want to do anything with them, but that's *his* question).
3.) So he's got Gingerbread now, what about Ice Cream Sandwich? Is the OpV capable of running it, does it exist for the OpV and what is the procedure to do it?

Thanks! :)

Since you are new to rooting, i would suggest that you read the sticky^ "NEVER DO A FACTORY RESET ON YOUR ROOTED PHONE ".

Thanks everyone! I will be sure to never do a factory reset, and I've not heard good things about rom manager. I do have another question...the rooted phone is now locking up quite a lot lately. We've had to pop out the battery & reboot several times. Also, sometimes when the phone is asleep, and you go to turn it on it does NOT show a lock screen, it goes from a darkened screen straight to the home screen. Is this a major issue?

What rom are you running? Did you install gapps? Is the phone zv5/4 or zv9?????

I installed gapps, the rom is backside IHO vm670 CM7 (as outlined in the how-to guide). As for the zv, is this the build number shown in the about phone menu? If so, zv it's zv 5.41

I know. He did this once before. He might have pulled support until he can figure out what to do with the recovery issue.

It does have some useful utilitie's
You can rename, delete, or install a backup (the only thing I use it for now), and you can download a couple of Froyo ROMs and for those that are little apprehensive about flashing a ROM it makes it really easy to flash those Froyo ROM's.

You can flash a Gingerbread ROM with it, you just have to download obijohn's wiper zip and pay for the premium version (this all is a little more hassle than just flashing from the recovery).

There are a couple more things it can do.

I think instead of members saying "Never use ROM Manager", they should direct new members to the sticky (which explains everything it can't and can do).

Try going into settings-Cyanogenmod settings- display and uncheck rotation animations.

Go back a couple of times and make sure that the change "sticks"; if it doesn't, do a search for "fix_permissions" to get instructions.

@PoisonIvy... When i first flashed backside cm7 I had the same problems, you have to give your phone a few days to adjust to your new rom ,then it should start running smooth as glass.

After a few days you will be able to overclock, if that is what you wish to do. I am running 480min and 806max with interactive x governor and it is pretty fast.

If after a few days and it's force closing, you can download terminal emulator from the play store and type in
su
fix_permissions
And let it run, that should help.
