Help Summary of problems for Triumph

The only problem I have is with the quick battery drain. But it's been remedied (somewhat) with Advanced Task Killer from the market. Also, the front facing camera is absolute shit but I don't really care because I won't be using it often, if ever at all.

task killers might actually use up more battery, depending on which apps you're closing

So no one else ever experienced the pixelation of green and pink colors on this phone while streaming video, because i tried FOUR different motorola triumphs and ALL of them this with video playback. My Op V has never done it once. I ask just out curiousity. I cant believe that i was unlucky enough to get four lemons!

no video problems here. it happens to every video you watch?

Yep. It happened on all of them for the most part. The pixelation and artifacting would never stay on the screen long but it was really annoying how it would happen on all video streams and all four phones that i tried. Really gave me a bad impression of the phone. My optimus v has never done it once.

is anyone having touch screen issues? i having an issue where where I touch is about 2 letters to the right on the keyboard. I hit "L" and J gets activated, etc. only intermittant.

My motorola triumph for some reason I can't get it to ring and vibrate toghether at same time, like I'm pretty sure when I first got it, it would ring and vibrate toghether. Now it will only ring once and then vibrate the rest of the rings. Any way to change it so it does both? Please help

I had lots of the problems that you all are bringing up. Mostly with having to touch things multiple times for a response. Another problem i had was not being able to download apps over wifi. I gotta tell you, this phone may be more advanced and more powerful than the optimus but as of right now i would say the optimus is a surer bet. With the motorola, you dont know if your gonna get a good one or a lemon. I never did get a good one.

Mine did that and now it's in the box for return... I tried to correct the issue but could not.

Well, I've been one of the lucky ones. My Triumph has worked well since day one. And I stream video from TV.com, Crackle, VEVO, Youtube, Playon and a number of other sites. In fact, that was one of the main reasons I wanted this phone. And it also had HDMI out so when I'm on the road, and the hotel has a HDMI-in TV I can use the phone to stream.
That being said, I have never had the pixelating problems you mentioned. On 3G, it takes longer to buffer till the video begins, and sometimes, depending on reception, it has to buffer during the video. But I've never had any of the problems you've had.
I'm only posting because I just started reading this thread and saw very few people posting back to you. Sorry about your MT(s). I like the OV too, I just needed Flash for some of my streaming. And I'm happy I got a good one.

it's because some of the ringtones only ring once. you need to listen to each one and wait if it repeats

I had my triumph for 3 days now. Went from optimus V to triumph. I read all the issues on the first post, and I'm not seeing anything except for the GPS one. The colors look fine to me, I never had blue tenting. The camera is smooth compared to the optimus V, theres no jerking or lagging, bright lights of a parking lot will trail a little. I did a 720P video test and the video was smooth, no motion blur. the only issue is its not 100% clean, stuff in the distance seems to be blurred, but its a phone, im comparing it to a $500 camera.

Phone signal strength VS optimus V ranges anywhere from -1 to -8 difference.

My triumph loads webpages faster, so in general web surfing on 3G feels a LOT faster compared to my triumph.

At work, My optimus V bearly has signal to text, but has NO 3G signal. My triumph has 3G and text.

As far as video, I only have done youtube on the phone, which well, its youtube. plays great. Never seen any pixelation or green/pink pixels.

So, from my view, using this phone many hours a day, I spy no problems. Works just as well as my optimus did, except a whole lot faster. The OOOOONLY problem i have seen on my triumph, one time, was a wakeup fail. Where you have to slide the bar to the right. i wouldnt go all the way over, once over half the screen it returned. simple turn off turn on fixed it. Not sure what happen there, only happen once, i figured maybe i had 3 points of contact on accident.

Yeah i think the light leakage is a very common problem. Probably the most common gripe about the phone other than the gps. All of mine except one had light leaking from the bottom. The hd video is not too bad on the phone but does not appear to be nearly the quality of most phones with that ability.

Why my Triumph is going back:

(1) Screen has brightness variations that are annoying when scrolling black text on white background.
(2) Screen has very serious image stability issues when scrolling white text on black background.
(3) Screen touch sensitivity issues -- often requires three touches to register.
(4) Screen colors are washed out and inaccurate compared to Nexus One (CM7).
(5) Wifi handling is broken. Many more APs are picked up than by Nexus One, but powerful ones (feet away, direct line of sight) are reported to have medium signal strength far below actual. (Side-by-side experimentation with Nexus One and Wifi Analyzer.) Actual download rate is about 60% of the Nexus One.
(6) Ring tone (at least the one I want) rings only once.

I don't know how the thing performs as a phone or camera. Actually, I don't use phones or cameras very much. But the issues I've found already are easily sufficient to force returning the Triumph. Since most of the problems indicate poor design, poor components and/or poor assembly and definitely awful QC, I'm not considering swapping for another unit.

I think these 2 latest posts sum up the majority of dislikes, without the more limited/lest reported problems. And their lies the crux of the Triumph. Many said this is the 1st mid-high level smartphone on a pre-pay plan.

I wanted to get the Triumph just bc if it was good, and sold well, it would be a starting point, a signal to all pre-pay plans on the big names and smaller carriers that people are willing to pay up front to get a decent level of performance.

I have not been able to try the Triumph, have not seen it as demo unit. But after getting the LG OV, and then trying even lesser Motorola 4+ " screens in BB, I really wanted to get the Triumph for the larger real estate as it's nearly impossible to type on the microscopic virtual keys in landscape/horizontal orientation on the OV, and while the screen might be brighter and sharper...many times I can't pinch & zoom elements and I don't have 20/20 vision such that it is *impossible* read the microscopic text (maybe an AP that resizes to larger fonts, but the screen is so small, that's going to be trouble).

I went into a Spring store to pay off my last contract bill, and tried to call Sprint CS (they were closed for the day) on one of the demo 4G HTC larger screen units, 4.3"? EVO 3G HD iirc, man it's like night and day compared to the OV. The HTC's you only need to swipe down to unlock, maybe 1/2", whereas as both Moto & LG, swiping across the whole screen to unlock sometimes fails and then I miss a call that goes far too quickly to voice mail...rarely had such a problem with my old non-SM unit. The EVO models 3G or 4G are so much faster, more responsive than the OV, it's not even funny. And in landscape orientation I can actually type without 90% error rate, more like only 25%, or pretty good with the Andriod 'swipe' style of entry.

I only can hope with Google buying Moto, that maybe we'll get a newer replacement for the Triumph on VM...ASAP! Not likely though :(. If something comes out in the next 6mo, at least with BB, I can get 50% of the price I paid for the OV, applied to whatever newer model...and LG? comes out.

Logic for why we'll never get upper tier models on lower priced PP plans, was on some blog I can't find the link for now. Man, that HTC Ruby, w/quad core 1.5Ghz should be insane...trickle down, on VM we might see something like that in 3-5yrs :(

I wanted to use the Triumph for Skype video chat :( , maybe next year, suppose 4G network is required for smooth vid if it's going across continents. Was so wishing for that capability!

Just for the record, chilipepper, I put my Triumph beside two different Thunderbolt phones ... there's no comparison. They may have similar hardware, but the Thunderbolt is in a different category of smooth (and of course, you pay for it).

I just went back to using my OV (side by side with the Triumph) and I'm amazed at how smooth the OV is in comparison to the Triumph.

Please, guys, let's just keep the conversation on Triumph and the problems associated with Triumph. Pimping other phone models isn't going to help the cause of getting high-end Android phones in a prepaid market.

By the way, there is NO SOUND LOGIC in preventing pre-paid users from getting the high-end Android phones:

contract market -> contract + low-priced high-end Android phone

prepaid market -> NON-contract + high-priced high-end Android phone

As demonstrated above, the cost (regardless of who eats it) isn't a factor in this whole who-gets-the-high-end-Android-phones.

i don't own a triumph but i do know of something that will help with gps problems. it's a free app in the market.

gpsfix https://market.android.com/details?id=com.androidlab.gpsfix&feature=search_result

just install and run it before you run what you want to use with gps and your lock time will be shortened. it worked wonders on my i1 when i had it. i also use it on my galaxy prevail.

Agree. GPSfix helps locking Sat so much faster. To help with battery life, use JuiceDefender. I cannot say it works yet since I only have MT for three days.

Here's my updated list:
It doesn't matter what app I use, it either takes twenty minutes or ten seconds to get a GPS fix. I have tried anything and everything imaginable (unrooted - I refuse to attempt it on a phone that won't work reliably if I can possibly get a better unit via exchange or leaving this network) and it just seems like I might be able to use it, or I might not.
Random reboots as of the last week.
Corrupted photos screwing with the SD card and camera function.
In the last week, whether its carrier specific or not: complete bottoming out on all network/signals at random, and phone must be rebooted or battery pull to work again.
The battery life sucks worse than the OV when the GPS is involved. Overheating, too. Actually thought the phone would overheat and melt the case when I tried (and failed) to use the GPS in Atlanta last week. Two hours later, less than a mile away, got a lock in 15 seconds with no increase in heat.

I let the return/exchange period lapse by 2 days by accident. Don't know...to Ebay, to try to deal with the carrier, or to completely give up on it all and go get a net10 prepaid and carry my Ipad around. Gotta meditate on this tonight.
No probs display, camera until recently, light leakage.
I really, really, REALLY want to love this phone. I really hope there's an update pushed down the pipes soon. I really am tempted to go sign an effing contract and get some carrier that won't cut me off the line five times in a row when I call to ask for some assistance.
Spent half an hour by the side of the road looking up a mechanic this afternoon - this would've taken 2 minutes with my ov in the same frickin location.
I'm going to go pour a drink, watch a movie, and meditate on the subject tomorrow. All I can say is, hindsight being 20/20: I want my Optimus V back, lower res or not.

anyone have camera issues? i did for two days, every photo i took had this pink to yellow type gradient on it, but then i went to go use it maybe two days later and it fixed itself.
