Sweeter Home 2 beta

Unfortunately I don't see any improvement from 712 to 727. I still get a lot of FC's and a lot of "error inflating widget". Probably due to my own lack of knowledge but still frustrating. Maybe the problem is in how I name the widgets or the layer or the size I choose for them? I dunno...I am reporting these errors though. Hopefully it will help fix them or make the app more dummy proof.

Dev is actually going to Google/Android at some stage with some suggestions about some of the Android Framework. Basically widget memory handling is shitty in Android. That's why you see installed widgets running in task killers even though you don't have them on the home screen for example.

the new builds been runnin beautiful for me at 800 MHz...

only one FC in 2-3 days so far, but i still think it was because the horse s**t top and bottom screens that are about the most horrible things ever...just thinkin about them makes me want to uninstall but other than that i love the new build.

cant wait till advanced actions are made easy to use so i can use 5 springboards to open up what i want instead of a custom tray with icons. and i'll be so disappointed if the option to get rid of the top and bottom screens doesnt come.

oh, and if anyone is having trouble with having to readd widgets, in edit mode you can pick which widget you want there so you never have to see the red box you tap to pick a widget.

My SH2 still FC on me fairly often. Not quite as much as the last build(s) but they aren't few and far between still haha

Is there a way to have apps in more than 1 system tray?

By system try do you mean tagged tray? If so, then no you can't. An app can only be in one tagged tray at a time. If you put it in another it will be removed from the first. You would have to use a custom tray to get an app to be in a second spot at the same time.

took a theme and modified it a bit.

OK, I got my theme just how I want it now for all 5 screens in portrait and landscape modes. The big concern I have is that the data is going through the roof! It is up to 27.77mb now. That is a LOT of data for one app. Is there any way to reduce that? Without uninstalling SH or deleting my theme of course! I am using very few widgets and mostly tagged trays.

My theme looks very first grade compared to some of the themes shown here but it fits my needs perfectly. I mostly use my phone as a book reader to take up time between phone calls at work. :D

Never Miind...I decided to just bite the bullet and uninstall/reinstall. My data went from 27.77 to 1.07. WOW! Of course I had to reload all of my widgets but that was a small price to pay. I only use 7 widgets and they were already configured. I just had to reclick on them in the list to get them going again. Piece of cake.

I noticed everyone talking about their data being high. Is that as in how much space its consuming on your phone or am i missing something? If that's the case according to the applications manager mine is only consuming 4.52mb of data and its been that for the week that i've been checking it.

I think the size of the "data" portion of SH2 gets bigger with each FC that it has. It's like the program stores some "cache" files or something that don't get erased and it just keeps accumulating.

I'm not sure where mine is at right now... I think it's somewhere around 8MB of "data" --- I have no idea where it's stored, but apparently it's there.

Take a look at the /data/data/com.sweeterhome.preview2/files/ folder. Mine currently contains 246 cache and temp files. And that number will keep growing and growing, especially the temp files. Deleting these temp files appear to have zero affect on Sweeter Home, so I don't know why they are there taking up precious space on our DROIDs. This issue needs fixed ... yesterday!

I discovered that some of the cache files are actually my custom .png files for my icons. While others are the information for the tagged and custom trays.

You can delete all the files and it still does not reduce the data size. It seems to increase every time you reboot.

I just switched my default to Home, then deleted all of the files out of that folder. I rebooted and started Sweeter Home, then reloaded my theme. The data amount was less. But within a minute, temp files started being created in that folder again ... without so much as a reboot.

I know that Android's image handling sucks. So the dev had to build so that Sweeter Home catalogs every bitmap and decides when to release the bitmap from memory rather than letting Android do it, since it was a major cause of slow down and edit crashes. I've forward to him again to see if he knows about this issue - will let you know what he says.

In general, the other thing to remember is that Android is designed to run an application for a short amount of time and then close it. Even other Home replacements have set UI values and you work within those confines. No other Android app runs constantly while allow constant additions, removals and changes to UI elements. So SH is battling against the standard Android framework for a lot of it's function.

I must say, after making a completely new theme from the ground up, my SweeterHome2 (latest build) is running much, much better. I have very few FC relative to what I had before, and have yet to have any problems with my widgets not updating *knocks on wood*.

I can even press the "home" key while in another app now and it won't cause a FC! Sometimes it will take a couple seconds to load up the home screen, but other than that it seems to run pretty well.

Oh, and the occasional times when switching between home screens starts to lag really bad.

I suppose FC's could be the culprit. I am back up to 7.39 mb data in just one day. But I haven't had all that many FC's! Mostly just widgets refusing to inflate so I go into edit and right back out. That fixes them. Could that be increasing the data?

I do still get a strange error message about recycled bit maps occasionally but I have reported that one before. I have no idea what causes it as I am not adding anything new to my theme now.
