Root Switching ROMs (Evo Classic to CM7)

Hey all!

I'm bored with the EVO Classic ROM and want to try a CyanogenMod ROM. EVO Classic was my first ROM. Do I need to do anything besides loading the ROM?

Thanks Experts!

Doug

Depending on which CM rom you flash, you may have to flash a gapps package in conjunction with the rom....
Just read to op for the desired rom you are interested in.
I haven't flashed a CM rom but here is a list of roms for you :)

Thanks! Do you have a favorite ROM for the EVO 4G?

Oh ho ho, do I ever!!!!
My opinion....DECKS RELOADED!!!!:D
My first rom after rooting was MikG3.11---also VERY nice and sense based...I tweaked that rom til it cried lol.

Then found Decks Reloaded...been running that for about 4 months now....
I don't flash alot of roms **:o**
I am also awaiting the update to Decks and I would like to try PapaSmurfs rom when his update comes out.

So try Mik and Decks....:D

also the staff picks in the list are great suggestion of roms to try out as well.

and yes cm7 does take more tweaking then other aosp roms. however, i have not tried cm7.2 or cm9 or cm10 so i cannot speak for sure on those.

after i try some of the ICS and JB roms, i might go back to my original setup that has proven tie and again to be awesome which is cm7 plus the tiamat kernel. best performance and battery life for me.

cm7, imo, doesn't take much tweaking at all. Flash rom, gapps, gps fix, mason kernel, a2sd and vipermod all in the same recovery session and off you go. I believe reloaded has more issues than the latest nightly

First make a nandroid backup (incase anything goes wrong)
When in recovery wipe everything except sd card
Then flash ZZVR supper wipe
Then flash rom

Decks reloaded is super smooth, download the rc4 SBC/fso mason kernel, and you have a blazing phone. Also savaca strike ice with, again, mason ei rc5 is the only ics rom I can get to be happy on my phone. If you're interested in ics that is.
Edit: btw decks reloaded blows out cm7, and the interfaces are real similar.

I guess I've always looked at it this way since my wife had a rooted phone, would I put reloaded or cm7 on the phone and I chose cm7. Fewer issues, imo but what works great for some doesn't work great for others but it's neither here nor there;)

Andy hit the nail on the head here. Results will vary. I've ran ROMS that most others said was problematic with totally different results and vice versa. truly no two phones are alike and they all don't play the same.

I'll second the MikG3.11. Great ROM in my rookie ROM flashing opinion. I also liked Nitrous and the SOS ROMs. I tried Decks but I wasnt comfortable enough in my skillz to get jacking with it. Either way you decide to go, you're in GREAT company here with PLENTY of support if you need any assistance.
