im wanting to switch to Amon-Ra recovery, i found this guide for flashing over to Amon-Ra, is this guide still up to date? is there anything else i need to do? and my nandroids will boot with Amon-Ra 3.08 right?

Changing recovery to Amon Ra Style recovery

Changing your recovery to Amon Ra Style will allow you to restore nandroids from both Amon Ra and ClockworkMod

1. Download Amon Ra Syle recovery

2. Transfer the file to the root of your sdcard and make sure it's not in any folders

3. Once it's on the root of the sdcard, rename the file to PC36IMG.zip

4. Turn off phone and while pressing the volume down key, press the power button for 3-5 seconds. This will take you to the bootloader screen.

5. It will ask if you want to update, press volume up for yes.

6. It will then ask you if you would like to reboot, press volume down for no.

7. Now highlight recovery on the bootloader screen and press the power button. You will then boot to your new recovery screen.

8. Here you will see your new options, you can either reboot or do a fresh new nandroid.

9. Reboot phone

Congratulations on updating to your new recovery

yep that works. just make sure that you rename the file to PC36IMG and do not add an extra zip as windows hides extensions by default.

ok, should i follow that guide or this one? found in Rooting For Dummies thread, which is located here- http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all...ooting-dummies-guide-gingerbread-edition.html

Switching Recoveries

speaking of recovery i would really recommend that everyone switch to amon ra 2.3. it is a much better recovery then clockwork mod. you can get the recovery here:PC36IMG RA 2.3.zip
here are the instructions:
1.download the file.
2.rename the file by erasing the "_RA_2.3" part of the name so that it is only named PC36IMG. make sure not to add ".zip" to the name as windows hides extensions.
3.transfer the file to the root (that means not in any folder) of the sd card.
4.power off (you most likely need to uncheck fastboot. settings/apps/uncheck fastboot.) then press and hold power+vol down.
5.hboot should see the file and select yes to update.
6.select no to reboot because we want to go into recovery and make a nandroid backup.
7.select recovery.
8.select backup and restore and select backup
9. select the first three and wimax. the other partitions do not need to be backed up. always keep one nandroid backup with wimax keys backed up on your computer.
10.now you can reboot.
11.using a file manager of some sort or even through your computer via usb, you should rename or delete the PC36IMG file on your card. otherwise you will be asked to update every time you go to the hboot screen. you do not need that file any more.

you can get older versions of clockwork mods and amon ra here:Free File Hosting Made Simple - MediaFire.
also there is a new recovery from teamwin :TeamWin Recovery Project (twrp) v1.0.3

well they are both the same instructions really. one has the new amon ra style recovery and my guide has amon ra 2.3. so it will depend on which recovery you want.

so the style is...well as it says just the "style"?
i want the actual recovery not just a cover up. i just want to be sure that the nandroid i just made i will be able to boot it if i need to. and mikgv2.61 will work with Amon-Ra 3.08 right?

i believe that is amon ra style 3.08. the actual amon ra recovery is 2.3. and amon ra 2.3 will work with mikg. if that is what you want then use my guide as it has the link for it.

Thank you sir.Ocnbrze! you are a true flashaholic with awesome knowledge and fast response time!! much appreciated.

There currently aren't any ICS roms stable enough for everyday use. They all have their issues, and arent nearly as polished as GB ROMs.

I would flash MikG if I were you. Its sense 2.1 + 3.0.

If you want AOSP try decks, MIUI, or Cm7

What are the pros and cons of updating from RA 2.3 to the "newer and better version"? Can older nandroids be used if update? ETC????

i have not tried the new amon ra style recovery, but for some it is a little laggy. the capacitative buttons works on this recovery. and you can use both cwm nandroids and amon ra nandroids. keep in mind that this is not amon ra it is merely an amon ra style.

personally with my issues with trying new recovers (TWRP 2.0 killed my evo, bad nand partition) i would stick with amon ra2.3. it has proven to be the best recovery out there.

Actually, this is amon ra. It's a forked source of amon ra so all the stability of amon ra plus added features.

I see some are having troubles but for what its worth, I have yet to encounter any issue with 3.11

well yes and no. for me amon ra is only amon ra if came from the dev amon ra:D. this is made from the source that amon ra uses so yes it is a different take on amon ra so in that way you are correct. but if amon ra was to come out with a new version then to me that is the new amon ra. this one is an amon ra style recovery.

people keep thinking that this is an official amon ra update when it is not. i just wanted to make that clear to people.

Hey Guys I am trying to find Amon Ra "How to" I used it a few times but I am not sure when you do the backup and restore it has a few things that not check off. I am wondering what should checked and when should not. I just go with the defaulf setup and things seems to work good, Am I missing somethings?

yep the first three is the minimum you should be backing up. the only other one i recommend is wimax. have at least 1 backup saved to your computer and the cloud. i have my very first nandroid backup that i did when i frist rooted saved with dropbox. the reason for saving wimax is because there is a very small chance that you can loose your wimax keys while flashing .zip files and radios. please read this http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all...before-you-flash-your-radios-read-thread.html. do not let the warnings scare you. it could happen, but if you have your nandroid backup with wimax, you will be good to go.

also if you have your sd card partitioned make sure that you backup sd ext as well.

Ok great!!!!! I do have the SD card partition but never checked anything off, I do the backup with the defauld checks, I check for my keys using WiMAX RSA Key checker and it is there....should I worry? Or do a new backup with the addition checks winmax and sd ext ?

that is what i would do. make a nandroid backup with your wimax keys (your sd ext will be up to you. it will save your apps that are stored there). save it to the computer and even in dropbox.
