Root switching to Amon-Ra recovery

Will do what you say. thx BUT I just learn something I never know that the sd-ext is where the apps store and that the apps that is on that rom not the one you can see from your PC, correct? also how do you access that SD-EXT from the phone and or from the PC?

ok how the a2sd works is that you need a rom that has it cooked in or a rom that has support for it. if it is supported only then you need to flash darktremors and also download the terminal emulator from the market. in te you enter a command that will move the apps to the card.

what a2sd is doing is creating a symbolic link on your phone to the apps on your sd ext partition of your card. basically fooling the phone into think that the apps are still on the phone's internal memory.

here is a great read by the great akazabam:

scroll down to his 3rd post for a more detailed a2sd explanation

not sure on how to access the sd ext. why do you need to?

Question for you guys, I seen one mention of twrp 2.0, but it did not sound like a good mention.

I seen a video of that recovery on the evo 3d looks good but is it compatible with the evo4g? does it work the same?
And above all does it brick the phone into unusability?

Generally you can access it using root explorer or some other file explorere, its located at /system/sd Inside that folder will be your /app /davlik-cache(if you chose to move it) /app-private and /lost+found and if using newer version of dark tremers you can also put /data/data in there.
The only reason I could see to access it would be to move something to /system/app however you dont need to go there you can just go to the original location /data/app as it will symlink you to the ext partition.

YES it does at least rc01 did. my evo is currently stuck in froyo land with s-on. my sd card is permanently unmounted and it does not matter what card it is. it will not mount. also the computer will not see the phone. i can't even accept an ota to gingerbread. ruu's do not work. it seems that my nand partition is corrupted. so you can try the later versions but i have read that a bunch of others have had the same issues as me. not sure what release they tried. up to you my friend.

for me i would wait until agrabren finishes his latest project called phoenix. no word on what kind of recovery it will be. i do know that he is taking what he learned with trwp 2.0 and making improvements.

A quick question... I have ClockworkMod recovery and would like to switch to Amon RA. Will the nandroids I made with Clockwork be compatible with Amon RA? I just want to make sure I can restore my original system or to my Sense ROM backups if need be. Thanks!

Amon Ra 2.3 will not restore clockwork mod recovery however the Amon Ra style 3.11 will.

Welcome to the forums!!!! :D

The Amon Ra Style recovery can restore both amon ra and clockwork backups, but the official amon ra (2.3) cannot restore clockwork mod recoveries. You will want to make another nandroid before flashing.

You can always switch back to clockworkmod if you NEED that original nandroid, but as long as you have at least 1 working from whatever recovery you are on you are fine.

Edit: argh ninjad :p

Thought I'd throw this out there. Smelkus over on Rootzwiki whipped up a new version of the Amon RA style recovery and added some additional features. Two different color varieties to choose from as well as an option to auto reboot after backing up or restoring a nandroid. I am going to flash later today I think, but I don't really have any intention of switching off MikG this weekend. Here's the link for you guys to try it out.

Thanks for the heads up brent. I cant count how many timse I've started a nandriod and placed it in my pockets & forgotten to restart the phone when its done.

I'm throwing it on there now, lets see how it goes :p

Amon 2.3 was dope and still is, amon style 3.11 I had one corrupted backup which wouldn't restore, but I still use the recovery and that was my only issue ever. Clockwork mod= junk! Amon RA 2.3 hausmod is supposed to be tight I have it downloaded but haven't tried it, just because 3.11 works good and I don't need to. Any other recoveries that are "worth" trying? I will not bother with twrp or any clockwork mod recoveries, but if there's anything else I haven't tried that could be beneficial I certainly will.

I'm currently running the Smelkus edition and I have to say It seems to be pretty tight. Again Thanks Brent for the heads up on that.

I had only one issue with Amon RA Style 3.11 and that was recovery from a compressed Nandroid. It restored fine but going into the ROM was like starting all over again.(Setup Wizard, Settings to default) I rebooted into recovery wiped cache and dalvic and everything was as it should be. Considering that the space it was saving me wasn't really enough to justify doing a compressed nandroid I just didn't and I never had another issue with the Recovery.

With Twrp I personally didn't have an issue however Ocean had a major issue and the reality that It could happen to me had me gun shy with it. Yes Touch screen was a nice feature however it wasn't a nice enough one to get me back to using it. Also the main developer left the project at the same time. To me the stars were lined up just right for it to be very wrong.
