T-Mobile FROYO update

This is bizarre!

They have released an update containing a load of German bloatware. They continue to roll it out, letting people download it if they wish. Only for them to release another update in due course so we can all download the correct update. :D

Litterally just checked again, and now it says there's an update.

As just about to go bed due to early start, will do this tomorrow - hopefully it'll let me!

Quantify this statement. There is one app installed on mine and two others there but not installed. I do not call this bloatware

I think we got of lightly ,they are trying to run a business after all. There are sim free phones with no branding, but if you take them up on a contract ,then of course theres a price to pay. This update did not change my homepage or bookmarks ,the previous update did.

Do you know that T-Mobile is a German company?

The two apps that show are Top Apps which doesn't seem to do anything but link to the market. Mailbox Pro, which quite clearly is in English, is a new service that T-Mobile will be offering. And if you lot would stop whining like children for a second you would realise that visual voicemail is actually awesome.

This update has three bits of software which are quite obviously for things T-Mobile are rolling out across Europe. One of them does nothing, one of them is awesome and I have no idea about mediacentre.

Imagine how much more pissed off you would be if they pushed out an update in a few weeks that did nothing but install three apps from T-Mobile.

Well top apps does work for me and does what it says. T-mobile recommends apps and then links to market. I have actually found a new app through this so am happy for this. Visual voucemail will cost 12p. Per voicemail downloaded so I guess you decide how usefully this will be for you.

the only thing in german i can find is the media centre. theres also an app called mobiletv?

it doesnt open on my phone, so i went on the t mobile site found the mobiletv part and it led me to enter my phone details in but when the desire model came up it wasnt an option had picture message setting, voice mail etc... but no mobile tv

The flash screen on start up is now the German TMobile Logo

I have TopApps which works ..... and Mobilbox thingy which links to a German website.

The other 2 apps, Mediacenter and Mobile TV you have to go looking for as they do not come up when browsing all apps.

It is a poor show but to be fair as long as we get these apps either so they can be used or removed, the update is spot on apart from that.

Does anyone know how to remove the T-Mobile apps such as Top Apps, MobilBox, etc.? I literally have no use for them and the option to uninstall is greyed out in Settings.

Aside from that annoyance, 2.2 is noticably faster, very impressed.

MedienCenter is the main culprit.

Regardless of whether there is one, or one hundred and one German apps, they shouldn't be on there - especially when you consider how long T-Mobile customers have had to wait.

Granted, it's no big deal. I just found it strange that they are continuing to roll out the update, only to roll out the correct update again in due course.

I do indeed.

Don't get me wrong, I am not moaning, as FroYo does seem to be a great improvement - even though T-Mobile do seem to have given us the wrong update.

As I said above, I just found it strange that they decided to continue rolling out the incorrect update.

You can't do this unless you root your phone. :)

I got the update last night and I cannot see anything German on it.

Bring up All Apps and select App Sharing.

Click on any app, and you will be given the option of how you wish to share it. You will notice the option for MedienCenter - this is for German T-Mobile users I think.

It doesn't do anything, and is basically useless.

As I mentioned above, it's no big deal. We'll be given the right update eventually.

Cheers for the info mate. Yeah MedienCenter is in said list.

I've not had time to read this whole thread, so sorry if I'm repeating something that's been said.

I checked on my settings and the update is there...do I bother with it? will I kill my poor phone if I download it????

hi i updated mine last night, 20 mins or so and all done with no bother.

am liking the rotate anyway now, fone seems smoothers and more polished > screens appear rather than pop up, browser seem likes a bit more buggy to me now getting random crashes even from google's page, like the facebook calender sync was there as soon as i opened my calender lucky as its my mates birthday next week and i forgot lol, the "news and weather" app i've never noticed before (soz if it was there before) but i quite like that too seems better than the news feed i had before too and the widget is nice that goes with it....generally quite pleased. Obviously didnt understand apps2sd as i presumed that would prompt you werre to install to if it didnt matter, not that i had to move them.

however i'm not sure if this is a froyo problem mentioned elsewhere - when i go into calender, select a date, e.g 9th october go to add appointment it defaults in the 10th. If i am open on today it does the same and defaults in tomorrows date...bit weird, not the end of the world tho - does anyone know if thats a froyo thing before i go searching.

am off to try out 720 recording now :D

I did mine on Sunday and have had a nightmare with it. Started with browser being a bit slow and scrolling quite stuttered (especially on pages with flash) - BBC football page kept crashing. Was adsvid to do a hard reeset which made it worse as there doesn't seem to be automatic back up anymore in Froyo and now contact pics have gone blurry again and scrollign still slow. Battery has also started going down quicker. Took the plunge and took it back to T-mobile to get it sorted.

my internet is gettin worse, cant get on bbc especially when trying to live cricket tex just chucks me out of the net completely - bearing in mind 2.1 never had a problem. cant get on sky sports web site gets 50% loaded from google search but thats it.

All i can say is what a balls up

According to the Official Press Release from T Mobile they are aware of the update error and are working on a patch for the phone that i think will remove the apps that were not supposed to be there.

Also they are saying that the update to 2.2 has not been stopped as some people are saying, but its being rolled out in phases.

Pete;)

P.s I did a full factory reset on mine before i installed the update and so far its running a lot better, quicker and battery life seems better too :) , just got to have a go at the tip to move all apps to the sd card now, as internal memory is still quite low.

its defo not been removed

a patch to remove the shitty apps is fair enough but why wont the phone work now properly after the installation. We all took the piss out of iphone for their mistakes but this is just as bad

Love to be able to answer that but like i said mine seems a lot better now, Tmobile are just saying that you should check that all your apps are 2.2 compliant
