T-Mobile FROYO update

Rob, just a quick check, i take you are doing

Settings -> about phone -> system software updates and check now.

I'm sure you will be but just in case

I haven't checked for a few days, but, yes, that's what I was doing. It's set to check automatically too.

Thanks for the suggestion though.

I had mine set to check automatically but I still had to check for it manually.

I'm sure you will get it soon enough, then you can join the "when are we going to get the right 2.2 update" group instead! :D

I tried checking manually a dozen times earlier in the week, and my phone always told me that there are no updates available. I got my Desire on the day the Desire was released. That's obviously put me bottom of the queue to get updates.

The German update is partly why I'm in no rush to update. I'm quite happy with my Desire as it is, but might try checking again sometime this weekend.

Mine was a very early Desire (in the launch week) and I successfully updated last Sunday so I don't think it's that.

I really don't understand how it works. It just seems very strange that everyone on here who searched for the update last weekend were apparently able to find it. The first reports on this thread of it not being available were last Monday (after T Mobile had been made aware of the german cook up).

Now if it was being rolled out gradually as they suggest then surely someone on here would have found it wasn't available to them when they checked last weekend? Suspicious? Me?? No!

I'm very pleased I did the update as I have found a significant improvement in battery life and the wifi hotspot function is fantastic

Personally it makes no odds to me whether the bloatware is in English, German or Chinese as I do not use any of it anyway. The only slight annoyance is that I now have the German T Mobile logo on startup.

Yay I'm now a member of the WiFi dropout club. Worked fine on 2.1 but since the update it fails connect when I walk back in the house. So glad they took their time with testing...

I thought I'd try again this afternoon instead of getting the ladder out and fixing the roof, and it allowed me to update. Maybe T-Mobile only allows downloads at weekends.

It all seems OK, but I haven't been outside to see whether it reconnects to my router when I return. Maybe that's an excuse for a pint tonight....

Bollocks, i hadn't noticed that. I've just been out, come back in and it's not reconnected to WiFi in 5 mins.

Is there a fix/solution this?

That's the first I've heard of the update causing any problems with wifi. I thought it was only people who had debranded who experienced problems if not using their goldcard when updating.

Mine has worked perfectly since the update. I've just been out and it connected straight away when I came back in.

Have you tried disconnecting and re-establishing the connection?

Mine connected OK when I got back home last night, but I forgot to check for an hour, so I don't know how quickly it reconnected. There is one minor change that I thought was a pain in 2.1 was that rotation would only work anti-clockwise, but now it works clockwise as well. Of course, Flash and Fox-to-Phone are nice too. I haven't had a problem with space for apps, so won't bother moving anything to SD card yet.

I just need to figure out the differences between the old "News" app and the new "News and Weather" app, but that can wait for another day.

I got the update sent to me yesterday and it all seems fine so maybe they've sorted it out now. Got to laugh though, it's a pretty fundamental error!

Software number 2.12.110.2.

Also battery life seems to have been extended, I'm using BatteryLeft and the time it says it's going to run out has rocketed up by several hours! I part-charged it just after I did the update up to around 85% and in 14 hours it's only gone down to 63%, that's with quite a few texts sent and received, several syncs for Facebook, Twitter and GMail, a bit of internet browsing and about 20 minutes of music played.

Does anyone know if it has sorted the bug that made the phone signal drop out completely rather than just revert to 2G when it lost 3G coverage?

Yep and that fixes it. It's only done it twice in the 30 or so times I've got out and come back since updating. Doesn't do it every time.

Just updated mine. Took about 15 minutes. Everything seems to be working Ok. Even used wi-fi hotspot with my iPad and that works great. It's the main reason why I didn't buy the 3G version as I hoped to use my Desire as the hotspot, and it works!

Only thing is there are quite a number of new apps in the list but all with 0.00Bytes so not available. These include Mobile TV, Medien Centre, VPN Services, TTS Services, Streaming Media Player, Streetview, Ringtone Widget, Ringtone Trimmer, Weather Agent Services. What's that all about?

Sprechen sie deutsch?

Read back in this thread and you'll get the picture. Obviously they haven't managed to roll out the correct uk version yet then.

I think all it's done is reset the battery calibration in the software, as at update it was 80%, after showed as 64%.

I assume just like when new, it'll right itself after a week.
My battery calibration seems to be messed up at the moment. I thought I was getting vastly improved battery life with Froyo but now I realise it's been giving falsely high battery level readings.

I no longer get the low power warnings at 15% and 4%. The only warning I get is when it tells me there is less than 1% remaining and then it powers off immediately, before I have chance to plug in the charger. At that time the battery in the notification bar is still orange, not red and the system reading is around 22%

Is there any way I can force it to recalibrate or do I just have to wait?

The UK arm only uses the name, and has been spun away from Germany for a few years now ;)

"Owned jointly by Deutsche Telekom and France Telecom, Everything Everywhere Limited is the UK's biggest communications company" - that's from the T-Mobile web site. Far as I am aware, DT owned 100% of T-Mobile, FT owned 100% or Orange so they each now own 50% of Everything Everywhere.

Things are just not as faultless, since the update:

Well i've been having and noticing problems with my phone since the update.

Screen Timeout - I have this set at 1 minute. Now i've not been able to establish what is making this reset, but it has happened several times now. Every so often it resorts back to 15 secs.

SMS -

i) Several problems. I've clicked on a text and a different thread has opened, this has happened several times.

Can someone else confirm this as it's a pretty bad bug
ii) If you type some words in. Then use the trackpad to scroll to previous messages in the thread, you can't get back into the text message with the cursor. Even though you press in the text and the keyboard lets you type, you can't see it come up. You have to exit the SMS (saving to drafts).

Applications - Even with automatic update ticked, it still shows up as an update available and i need to manually update.

Camera - Ever time i take a picture, it now sets off Smart Volume locker, making it vibrate saying "The Volume for Ringer is locked"
