Telus - htc desire 2.2

Hmm, my Market doesn't want to open. "Attention - an Error has occured. Please try again later"

Market is working fine now.

As for me I'm upgraded. I also did a Quadrant test before and after the upgrade.

My quadrant scores:

Stock Eclair - 540

Stock Froyo- 1205

OMG OMG OMG 2.2 is here
a little late but they just made the dead line AMAZING
make sure you have at least 25 MB free on your phone

No nothing really
just a few added stuff like;
a flash light (3 different light brightness)
App Sharing

plus the old stuff like the voice commander

I would recommend doing the telus update. That way you know 100% it will not void your warranty since it is easy to tell
if they look and the apps preloaded that are uninstallable are not there then they know its a custom rom

Figured, their 2.1 was barely bloated nor branded. Seems there's very little difference between RUU Froyo and Telus' Froyo. As someone else pointed out a couple months ago (and I found out too) that Telus disables GSM bands which is useful for when you travel and to enable them you'd have to flash the official RUU.

I have a goldcarded SD card and 2.1 nandroid backed up for the OTA but I don't think I'll bother anyways, I'm happy with Cyanogenmod 6.1 so far and I also have stock 2.2 backed up.

hi, to those that have updated their htc desire via Telus OTA, where are you located? because this morning i had the opportunity to update my phone but i did not do it because i didnt have the time to but i have retry it 30min later then it says : your phone is up-to-date, no uupdate is needed. Did Telus stopped the update?

I just checked and it's still on. I'm at work and can't download it at the moment (weak wifi) but will try it during lunch/after work. Hope it's still around!

is it the stock froyo or is there telus bloatware?tethering?

The Telus version originally wasn't very bloated as Sookster pointed out, nor did it come with any 'telus' identifiers in the first place. The OTA (over the air) udate everyone is getting DOES include the telus apps and whatever branding and changes they have done. When you get it you will still have all your apps and settings, as this is just an update to your current software.

Those here who used the "RUU" method (the Windows .EXE) actually wiped your phone clean and used a completely 'stock' HTC Desire image with Sense. This includes NO other apps or carrier brandings, and you are now free to get the future OTA updates right from Telus (as I understand it as long as you have your goldcard inserted).

No matter what you did or didn't, Im glad to see Telus has finally pushed the update so everyone can enjoy 2.2!

The funny thing is that Telus has a twitter account and they posted
"We got word that Android 2.2 has been pushed back and will be out in the near future in Q4"

They all of sudden it got released. Somewhat odd but still very nice.

Also with the new wifi hotspot, it does work really nice. I am at school and using my 3G internet on my laptop, i love it.

You might want to check your data charges and see if it is falling under your phone data plan or under additional data charges.

In Windows Mobile they had a way of separating the two and charges.

The developers found it and got a work around.

Thus one one other reason I wanted to unbrand.....just in case.

Let us know.

I'm in Alberta Canada. I'd assume it's a nation wide update....weird.

I believe it is directly from HTC not Telus. So when Sense 2.0 hits and Gingerbread HTC will make it work properly with the Desire and then release it as an unbranded version. Everything else will go to the respective carriers.

If you did the Ruu update as I did I do not think that the updates from Telus will show up, I have checked my phone twice and it says up to date. All my updates will come from HTC and that is the way I wanted it in the first place, I do not have service from Telus so why would I want their updates??? And even though I have Froyo it should show up on my phone because the version number is a higher number than the number now on my phone which would show as a update even though it is Froyo!!

Your version of Froyo is the newest version. When HTC and carriers release RUU updates they are specific for each carrier. So the Froyo for Orange and the Froyo for Telus are different numbers. The only thing you need to be concerned about is the updates for unbranded phones, which is now what yours is. Anytime HTC releases a bug fix for unbranded phones we will have it. If Telus has their own bug fix we will not get that one. So if and when we need another update we will get it. Also remember your goldcard has to be inserted to get the update.

P.S- Since Telus released Froyo I will not write the steps to do the RUU. If you need help just send me a private message and I will be glad to assist.

Menu > Settings > Applications > Manage applications > hit menu again sort by size > click Angry birds and move to SD card.

By default (i downloaded 2.2 for telus OTA) and anything you download after the update should default to the SD cards if allowed. At least mine does.

Hell yeah if htcsense becomes available for the Desire, I'm gonna try and grab that, Gingrebread might not be released for the Desire but will likely appear on XDA and Modaco or whatever.

After installing the OTA 2.09.405.8 I immediately got a prompt for update to 2.10.405.2 but I didn't bother, so the OTA from RUU even with a goldcard are directly from HTC.
