Please bare with me as I am.old and slow.I have t-mobile and optimus l9 tethered to my Samsung tablet. I installed a tethering app (Fox........) do I need do use USB debugging or other means to hide my usage.

Disguising your tethering from what the carrier normally looks for can only protect you so much. They can always tell you're tethering if they look deeper. If you're connecting an Android phone to an Android tablet, then I wouldn't worry to much about it. If it makes you feel better, you could change the user agent of your tablet to that of your phone.

You can not hide the amount of data that you use. As it passes through the carrier's network it gets counted. So does your home cable/dsl/satellite connection.

Because how the internet is designed, information needs to know where it is to be sent and how it is to be sent. The way something is sent to your computer is different than how it is sent to your smartphone.

A simple web proxy doesn't offer enough protection to hide everything a carrier looks for.

a web proxy server is not a way to hide data usage from your carrier. If your going over on your limit then you should get a bigger data plan. If your carrier does not allow tethering then find another solution for your problem. One thing we cannot do is help you break your TOS from t-mobile. This website does not condone or endorse "illegal activities" Trying to hide your data usage is stealing and against our rules. Sorry but that is just the way it is.

How is it stealing if I have an unlimited plan, I just want to view on my tablet instead of my phone.it sounds like they're the crooks not me

well the issue with tethering is that, though you are not stealing in the traditional sense, you are denying your carrier its money that is owed to them when they allow devices to be a mobile hotspot.

tethering for most carriers without a data plan is a breach of your TOS(terms of service). thus, you run the risk of them booting you off of their network.

now here is the policy we have here at AF:
