I think the point is that the private business wouldn't have non-renewed those policies had proper wildfire risk mitigation been performed by the county. In my opinion, the fact that the decision was made last year speaks volumes about the county's utter disregard for public safety.

I got that that's the argument being made but perhaps the links to the the wildfire risk mitigation policies and cancellations should be linked or directly quoted and referenced instead of saying 'it's out there, look it up'. The clip you posted is more focused on State Farm than LA's practices. There is no solid information given about that, just the suggestion to do your own research. The point of all this guy's outage was never really made, just more yelling and without a smidgen of information to back it up.

It's a long article so I don't expect you to read it really but it's all about brush removal pros and cons, the effects of removal to the environment, the different types of brush in CA all from various people with various views. But, at the end of the day, the underlying fact remains that absolutely nothing was going to prevent, slow or stop those fires.

there is no evidence that they are pulling out just because of the lack of brush fire management. they are pulling out for a lot of various reasons long before the Palisade fire.

....so i think this guy in that video is full of shit! he is just saying those things without citing any evidence just to score political points.

now as far as mismanagement of the brush as the right like to argue, LA is home to the chaparrals.....which is an ecosystem were shrubs like the manznita like to grow. the problem with these types of plants is that some have adapted and evolved to use fire to help spread their seeds. but too much fire will destroy these plants and its seeds. most chaparral plants have adapted to safety nets to ensure the species can recover after a fire. some in the form of seeds, while some in the form of deep root structures where new plants can re-grow. the problem is that excessive fires stunt or destroy these fail safes. scientists say that fires that occur more than 30 years apart could destroy the chaparral and its plants.

in other words control burns are out of the question.

so unless you want LA to get rid of its heritage and its chaparral ecosystem managing the brush is quite difficult.
