I think the point is that the private business wouldn't have non-renewed those policies had proper wildfire risk mitigation been performed by the county. In my opinion, the fact that the decision was made last year speaks volumes about the county's utter disregard for public safety.

I got that that's the argument being made but perhaps the links to the the wildfire risk mitigation policies and cancellations should be linked or directly quoted and referenced instead of saying 'it's out there, look it up'. The clip you posted is more focused on State Farm than LA's practices. There is no solid information given about that, just the suggestion to do your own research. The point of all this guy's outage was never really made, just more yelling and without a smidgen of information to back it up.

Here's some research

It's a long article so I don't expect you to read it really but it's all about brush removal pros and cons, the effects of removal to the environment, the different types of brush in CA all from various people with various views. But, at the end of the day, the underlying fact remains that absolutely nothing was going to prevent, slow or stop those fires.

Somebody in LA has some 'splainin' to do...
there is no evidence that they are pulling out just because of the lack of brush fire management. they are pulling out for a lot of various reasons long before the Palisade fire.

this article was written 6 months or so ago:

it does not mention the fact of brush management, but only states that due to climate change fires are more frequent in California.

....so i think this guy in that video is full of shit! he is just saying those things without citing any evidence just to score political points.

home insurance in Ca is becoming a crisis just like it is in Florida.

now as far as mismanagement of the brush as the right like to argue, LA is home to the chaparrals.....which is an ecosystem were shrubs like the manznita like to grow. the problem with these types of plants is that some have adapted and evolved to use fire to help spread their seeds. but too much fire will destroy these plants and its seeds. most chaparral plants have adapted to safety nets to ensure the species can recover after a fire. some in the form of seeds, while some in the form of deep root structures where new plants can re-grow. the problem is that excessive fires stunt or destroy these fail safes. scientists say that fires that occur more than 30 years apart could destroy the chaparral and its plants.

in other words control burns are out of the question.

so unless you want LA to get rid of its heritage and its chaparral ecosystem managing the brush is quite difficult.

if you can read then here are some great articles to learn from:

i wish the right would just stop pretending they know the science of California and stop these ridiculous accusations!!!

Yeah why would they build in the wrong way, just for what, the view of fire?
do you mean the wrong place? the hills are always going to be the ideal spot for building nice homes. the higher in the hills the pricier the homes get. its all about the money here in LA.

but you are also correct in that they do build homes in the wrong way. most of these homes, are not built to resist fire. if you look at the homes that was not destroyed in the fire, those homes were built to with stand a fire. hopefully when they rebuild, they will do a better job in designing.

and they all volunteered to help out whenever there is a fire....not just this one. they do not get paid much, but at least they are willing to help out.
When hurricane Hugo hit us, back in 89, there were inmates there helping out. From the local work release camps. In the regular time they work out in the public on a daily basis.
Group that was with me had no idea that I was on vacation from my job as a Sergeant with the DOC.

what sucks now is concern for mudslides as we are now caught in atmospheric rivers that has brought rain for the past few days.....and looks like more is coming next week.....so far nothing catastrophic has happened yet.

That is not a good thing... but it's pretty common with the hills being without foliage... right?
yep. even with vegetation, the hills along PCH(pacific Coast Highway) is prone to mudslides. now factor in no vegetation and a ton of ash on the ground spells disaster for those burn areas.....so far the first storm in the atmospheric river has not produced a ton of rain. but the ground for sure is getting saturated. i think the next storm next week will bring a more fierce weather that will for sure bring in the mudslides.

I guess it is been going on for centuries but it sounds bad. We have no mud slides. We have no hills either :) Lately we haven't had rain to speak of. We are way safe... and boring.
