The HTC EVO 4G off-topic Banter thread

Is an invisible shield needed? If the back is matte and the front is practically all glass, why get one? The matte battery cover on my Pre (for the touchstone) hasn't really scratched since I got it.

I will not be getting any kind of skin for the back, but I'm definitely getting one for the screen, as I've heard it really attracts fingerprints.

Good point. I guess invisible sheidls aren't all about scratch resistance, but also fingerprint resistance. I will try without for a little while, and if the amount of fingerprints on the screen bothers me, I will purchase an invisible shield. Thanks!

This image is the best I could find showing what you guys are talking about. Looks sort of inconclusive to me.

hmmmm; that's not nearly as "steep" as i thought.

anyways, i dropped my pre 3 times yesterday (mostly b/c i've stopped being careful with it). i'll be getting a case, which should recess the lens ever so slightly.

It look to me like that in order to protect the lens is going to be to get a case that sits the back up higher than the lens. That is a little disapointing:( since I wanted a naked phone.

Yeah I got to play with it too, my Sprint rep came in and let me play with it for about 30m, but I had to give it back to him ha.

not exactly sure how to check this....

Record a 720p video and transfer it to your computer. Then open it with Quicktime and do control+I, VLC should have something similar but it's acting up for me.
If that doesn't work, mind posting the file somewhere of a short video so I can take a look at it? To a place like rapidshare or something similar, not to Youtube where they will muck with the video.

everyone should have this prog. will tell you everything you need to know, and some, about almost all media formats without playing or opening it.

OOOOOOOOO ... AM I JEALOUS!!!!!!! I am soo hitting up Ebay if they're on there going for $400-$500. I have to pay retail anyway.

I got mine for $450, but you got to keep hitting refresh on the newly listed. They are going fast. The I/O phones will not be around long.

Any reason in particular that you are saying that I have to get a case/screen protector? I would prefer to keep it naked like I have with my iPhone for the past 3 years.

It doesn't have a oleophobic screen like the iPhone?

Have any new video to share for today, need my fix..How about ringers (how many), how is the vibrate on this and also does have ring and vibrate?

BTW i'm coming from the first Instinct phone. Android is going to be new to me.

Can you watch Hulu on it?

Nope. Hulu is bound by restrictions put on them by the content owners and currently doesn't allow delivery to mobile devices. I assume the point is that they don't mind you watching on your computer so you don't torrent or stream shows from bootleg streaming sites but when it comes to TV screens they want you to keep buying DVDs and watching ads on TV. When it comes to mobile, they want their phat iTunes loot.

There may be a browser agent workaround or some third party app that fools the site into delivering content to the mobile platform, but for all intents and purposes...

Nope.

is.....

I have a Moment and the accuracy is 96 feet and it takes awhile for the GPS to lock in.

How does the EVO respond?

how do i check internal memory on this thing? I've been only playing for couple mins and still need to get used to all these menus and stuff..

There was a video (HTC EVO...WOW) that showed the guy accessing the memory information through the settings menu. Not sure how to get there, but it was clearly labeled "storage card and phone memory (or storage)"...something to that effect.

I think it's been pretty much established that there's little to no extra "internal" storage, the 1GB of ROM is actually being 1/2 (or more) used up by applications pre-loaded, and the 8GB microSD is on there. But, if you'd like to take a pic for us to confirm, that'd be great!
