The HTC EVO 4G off-topic Banter thread

the reason i payed full price for the phone was because of the unlimited everything one month trial !

Don't get me wrong the trial is very nice. It's just a pain in the ass because I'm going to have to give everyone i talk/text the new number then a few weeks from now, tell them to go back to my old number. Just frustrating.

so you cancelled the free 1 month trail and put the phone on your plan? you called the number on the reference paperwork that came with the Google I/O conference right? More insight for info hungry people! haha

Yes this morning I called the special number and told the rep that because I have service with Sprint I wanted to use the evo on my exisitng account. The rep verified my account then read me a free month void spill and the $10 prem charge disclaimer. From there he activated the phone. The total call was about 30 minutes because I was the first customer who he had closed out a demo line and reactivated an evo for on an existing account.

Thanks for that info.

3 calls, email sync, weather sync... GPS on.
about 24hrs. can't go for more though...

I really hope there can be a dock available that would charge a 2nd battery at the same time as the phone, like those old Motorola StarTACs. I would definitely need much more juice than that a day and I won't always have access to a charging port (car or AC outlet). :(

Hopefully Seidio would come out with an extended battery solution. Hopefully something to the tune of 2500 mAh or more.

Wait a sec, so Sprint stopped activating google I/O evos on existing lines? I wonder if one could activate online instead? Why would Sprint do this?

your crazy? what were you doing with it?

I was running a battery drain test.

start 5:36pm

7:36pm
I've went two hours with wifi on, gps on, bluetooth on, full brightness on with no time out. I've done multiple speed tests. Background syncing is on. I've taken multiple 720p videos. I've uploaded three 720p videos to YouTube.

I'm down to 60% battery.

8:36pm
3 hours passed. 40% battery left. I added an 11 minute call and some 15 minute FM radio use with my other activities.

9:53pm
DEAD!!!

Assuming the bluetooth was transferring something and not just turned on, and the gps was being used the whole time by a program, 4 hours is more than I would expect to get out of it. Maybe for another battery test, once it's charged up, you could see how long the wifi hotspot will transmit before dying. Your computer connected to it would have to be transferring data the whole time to make it a good test though. If the radios are turned on, but at idle, they won't be drawing as much power. Thanks for the test.

Also, a question: is there a way to turn the screen off or lock the device with the hotspot running? On my windows mobile phone when I run WMWifiRouter I turn the screen off to get the most out of the battery, but if I lock the phone with the power button, the wifi stops transmitting.
