The HTC EVO 4G off-topic Banter thread

I have like 3 or 4 pop 3 emails that I want to use. I have a gmail account but I use my Yahoo more. If I can't get Yahoo to work I was told you could forward it to your gmail or with having a big screen and nice browser I can just go to yahoo.com and read my mail. So I'm not too worried about it. I just can't wait for this phone. I tried to help my co worker get Yahoo on his Samsung Moment and it wasn't working but he didn't have 2.1 yet. I had the TP2 before by HTC with Sense so I am hoping some stuff will be familiar to me with this phone. I just don't know Android but there's so many cool apps it's going to be a great phone.

On my TP2 once i got windows mobile 6.5 I could take a pic and send it as an mms or to email or straight to FB which I loved. On 6.1 I couldn't send auotmatically to FB. I had to take the pic find it and send it by my FB email address I hated that. I love how it will auto go to FB now. If I had my cotatcs from my hTC TP2 linked to FB will they be linked already when I add them back to the EVO? I am using my LG Lotus right now cause I sold my TP2 and under contacts is says something about HTC do not edit and FB.

Best way is to get rid of hotmail and use gmail :-D

Really though, you just need to set up a pop3 account on the phone. You just need the server addresses:

pop3.live.com
and
smtp.live.com

Here is the whole setup:

I love my AT&T 3G-compatible Nexus One, except for one huge issue. The screen "loses" its calibration a few times a day. It registers my tap as being a little below where it actually was. Turning off the screen then turning it back on usually fixes this temporarily. I tried a friend's Nexus One, and it has the same issue.

Since the EVO is also made by HTC, I was wondering: do the few EVO owners out there have any issues with touch calibration?

Finally held a dummy EVO today at Best Buy... thing is massive, but I love it. Can't wait for Friday.

the one i help was right next to the Hero, and the Hero looked tiny, but the Evo didn't feel that big, it felt just right to me. i also have a Archos 605 which has a 4.3" screen and a bigger outer ring and buttons, so hat maybe why it isn't too big to me

To those who are lucky enough to have their paws on a EVO!

Can you please flash some light on the EVos screen, while its off - Notice any dust? fotos would be much appreciated!

TIA

Yes, this boggles my mind. My BB Curve has dust under the screen. (I've had it for over a year though.) But how does dust get under the screen!

The screen could be pried off - see the other thread about ripping the phone apart. Dust probably got in at assembly? I have not noticed any on mine but have not examined extremely closely either.

When you think about how tiny dust particles are, it's no surprise when one works its way through the battery door/ear piece/microphone/USB port/headphone jack and arrives at its final resting place, on the screen.

Can you check for us when you have the time? The average joe doesn't own a T5 (is it) screw driver, and I wouldn't recommend opening the Evo doesn't that void your warranty?

I remember I disassembled my old curve, bloody input for the headset ended up failing.

I've had the Evo for almost 2 weeks, and I see no dust under the screen. I've had issues with dust that crawl in with other phones, but that's only after like a year of owning the device..

I sold my 605 to get this phone

Who, me? Sorry, not interested in taking my Evo apart.

hey bek, or anyone else for that matter. Does the evo stay turned on while plugged in with the battery out? If so, can u change the microsd card like this?

I'd call it moderately strong. It's not the weakest I've used, but it's not the strongest either. Acceptable in my book, and I keep my phone on vibrate 95% of the time.

You know, this makes me think of a question...

I don't know if you have ever used a Touch Pro 2 or not, but the vibration is as loud (and probably louder) than the ringer.

How loud is the vibration on the Evo? Is it pretty quiet?

No, I have not used a TP2. I've used a... Nextel i1000, i1000Plus, Samsung A900, Treo 700p, Treo 800w, Touch Pro (Fuze), Palm Pre, and now the Evo.

Of those, I'd say the vibration is... well, about in the middle of the pack. It's definitely not the loudest I've had for sure - but definitely not the worst I've dealt with either. And I've always kept my phones on vibrate 95% of the time. Some of my phones, I could just keep on vibrate on my nightstand, and they were loud enough to wake me. The Evo might wake me, if I was sleeping lighter.

haha i meant taking a closer look at it (Under a lamp) - its okay we shall all find out soon.

Thanks Bek for all the contributions/feedback you've made! you've done more than enough on your part

Cheers!

I have the Archos 605 too. Time to sell it LOL!
