The HTC EVO 4G off-topic Banter thread

anyone test out the head phone jack yet? It doesn't work on mine when I plug my earphones in... It still plays music through the speaker phone.

I just listened to Pandora through my headphones...make sure they are pushed all the way in. I know it sounds stupid but I had to PUSH hard!

I got my EVO this morning and am really excited about it. I'm coming from an iPhone so it is taking some getting used to Android. Appbrain has been extremely helpful, and I never would have found it without the direction of this forum, so thanks.

When I get text messages, I'm used to seeing them pop up on the screen when the phone is asleep. Are there lock screen apps that will let me do this? I want to be able to read the text message without unlocking the phone.

Can someone point me to a good unboxing video. And/or tell me what's in the box? Just the phone + USB cable + manual? Is the cable a wall adapter type or USB wall adapter + USB cable or what? Any other accessories in the box?

Mine works great, look for a headphone toggle app in the market. It works like a charm and seemingly once you use it once, you never have to use it again. (at least I didn't).

Has anyone been able to find a decent EVO sleeve/case at a Sprint store today? I hated the RadioShack offerings, but I still picked up one for free (with the $20 credit).

Handcent is your best friend.

OMG, not that any of you care, because you all have yours too, but I've had mine for about 6 hours now and finally got home from work and errands and able to get on AF. This beeeotch is one FINE ASS mother! My cheeks hurt from grinning ear to ear over this thing! Now I'm trying to figure out what to do with it first. While I was babysitting, I went through all the screens and menus and now I'm dealing with the SD card (new one, formatting), HTCSync, apps, etc. Congratulations to everyone else that has theirs or will be getting theirs. I hope you love yours as much as I love mine. And to anyone on the fence......GO GET ONE!!!!!

Frankly, I'm am very pleased. I had some reservations about the phone and to be honest the phone is a bit intimidating as I have so much to learn about it, but this thing is amazing. I had no idea I would be able to text so easily and the screan is far better than I thought it was going to be being only 16 bit. Good job HTC, good job...

So far I'm having fun getting used to the onscreen keyboard. Hoping to become more adept at its manipulation. The logic app that guesses what you're typing is quite helpful. I do think that I will become much more efficient in conveying in the shortest wordcount possible.
:)

After reading that I decided to try out the music on the phone and its not bad for a phone, then I decided to plug in my Audio-technica Quietpoint ATH-ANC3 noise cancelling headphones and holy cow it sounds soooo damn nice.

Got 2 EVOs today via BBM. Their system was hammered, and they ended up having to call Sprint. Took about 45 minutes total. I also sent off an email to Sprint to take care of the activation fees.

Also included, for free, were a pair of plantronics 230 headsets, whereas, two days ago they were trying to sell me a $90 headset/charger package for $30.

ALL THE WAITING HAS PAID OFF--THIS PHONE IS FANTASTIC!!!

I'm on the hunt for:

2 x screen protector
1 body case
1 horizontal leather holster (like the one that was provided with the HTC Touch!)

My wife has a habit of locking her phone and just tossing it into her bag. Myself, prefer to hang it off my belt. My phone's remarkable condition (2 yrs old) is a testament to this method of holstering.

I hope everyone else's activation day goes smooth like mine did! GO BEST BUY! GO SPRINT! HOOORRRRAAYYY!!!

Take care!!!

EDIT: This was Best Buy Mobile in Milpitas.

whoo finally. took waiting 3 hours at best buy. The staff was courteous, but the systems kept timing out and loggging them off. It was a trainwreck from that perspective, however they did set up a waiting area and screen showing the queue with bottles of water and chairs and put on a movie. Once it was my turn it took about 50 minutes (I ported a number from another carrier). BB did did botch up the msid settings, but a quick web chat to customer service and it was fixed and I was ready to go. They were getting pretty hurried so they sent me to a cashier to cash out before checking to see if the phone was actually activated.

I did buy the 2 chargers for 30 bucks. Not a total ripoff, but not a hot deal either. Waiting for my invishield bull body from the half off on zag website deal.

Coming from a g1, I can actually use the soft-keys in portrait mode. The g1 screen was just too small to use it before!

I got my Evo.

I was very excited at first. Then I sort of got 'bleh' waiting for it. Before I knew it the date was here. I went to the store when it opened at 10am to see if there was a line or not. Very few people were outside the store, I put my name on the list and waited.

It took a little longer than I thought. It was quite slow and each customer took a long time. I ended up walking out of the store about 2 hours later. It was not horrible but it seemed like it was much slower than it should have been. I believe it was mostly because of the sprint system not updating the phones. The employees were nice enough and I had no issues personally.

Overall I love it. I had an HTC Sprint Hero before and while I liked it the phone just could not handle anything. When I would go to text it could not keep up with even moderate typing and scrolling or using the notification menu were chopping and sluggish. I was hoping this phone would solve those problem and it did.

While its huge it actually feels great in my hands, while the hero felt tiny. As a guy who put the phone in his pocket with nothing else in that pocket the size is perfect.

Sense is fail though, sorry but it should be optional. Stock android looks much better.

I'll install froyo when xda gets the camera working.
