The HTC EVO 4G off-topic Banter thread

I got my Evo.

I was very excited at first. Then I sort of got 'bleh' waiting for it. Before I knew it the date was here. I went to the store when it opened at 10am to see if there was a line or not. Very few people were outside the store, I put my name on the list and waited.

It took a little longer than I thought. It was quite slow and each customer took a long time. I ended up walking out of the store about 2 hours later. It was not horrible but it seemed like it was much slower than it should have been. I believe it was mostly because of the sprint system not updating the phones. The employees were nice enough and I had no issues personally.

Overall I love it. I had an HTC Sprint Hero before and while I liked it the phone just could not handle anything. When I would go to text it could not keep up with even moderate typing and scrolling or using the notification menu were chopping and sluggish. I was hoping this phone would solve those problem and it did.

While its huge it actually feels great in my hands, while the hero felt tiny. As a guy who put the phone in his pocket with nothing else in that pocket the size is perfect.

Sense is fail though, sorry but it should be optional. Stock android looks much better.

I'll install froyo when xda gets the camera working.
You can turn off sense.

I didn't mean to sound like a downer :p I just personally don't dig the 'sense' ui. And really that was my only complaint about the phone.

By the way I appreciate it, I now love my phone even more(didn't think that was possible haha)

I think everyone underestimated the number of EVO's sold. I was told work was mandatory for every Sprint employee and they still did not have enough.

I walked into my local Sprint store at 1:15 and thought there was no chance in hell that I would be lucky enough for them to still have some. I asked and the guy said they did. I couldn't believe my luck.

They did a great job of setting it up, and buying back my 3 other phones to reduce the cost (I am not available for upgrade till November). The body glove case is perfect and keeps the camera off the ground, and they put the screen protector on for me and I was off.

Love the feel of it, can't believe how small the Hero was compared to this. Love everything except for the battery life.

I can't set a lockscreen picture at all? I could do it with ease on the Hero, but seem to not have an option for that at all. I have a picture that I want on it. Can anyone help me with that issue?

Is anyone else just having trouble figuring those phone out and setting things up? I'm starting to have buyers remorse already. Coming from the Pre. I can't seem to get my Yahoo mail. It's not setting up my Google calendar properly. It's just not feeling right. I'm gonna give it a try. I do like the screen and it looks great, but it's just not feeling intuitive to me the way my Pre did.

Well, there she is. In all of her glory.

I'm coming from an iPhone 3G and this thing is just amazing. I used it for a few hours and then had to go back to my iPhone to transfer some contacts and jesus it feels so small. It's fun feeling lost in an OS again and finding my way around.

Overall first day impressions are totally positive, the contact sync with my google account and my facebook is amazing. The phone flies overall, wifi is faster feeling than on my iPhone. I haven't tested 4G much, but the short test I had seems decently quick.

I'm not sure if anyone remembers, but I was here way back when and leaked some spec information :) it's good to finally have a phone I've known about forever. I can't wait to get more into the phone and look forward to what it can do.

can anyone tell me how to change my weather location...the one that is the default location when the phone is on the home page....it is evening time in charlotte, and my weather is telling me that it's sunny and 86 degrees...i've powered off

Launch the weather and then hit the menu > settings. From there you can add a city, or change it to refresh every hour. That way when the sun goes down it will update the weather for you.

Hope that helps.

Just registered here today after getting my evo at 6am!
So far I love this phone. I came from an iPhone so this is an adjustment, but I'm having fun learning all about it. Oh and the camera is AMAZING!

This has been bothering me for a couple of hours, but I have a question. In my music folder, I have over 300 songs, but only 25 show up in the music application. Every one of them are .mp3 and are all in the music folder. What gives?

Also, I have my media organized in different subfolders and can view them accordingly. I've tried organizing my pics the same way, but they show up as one folder instead of several. Any ways to get around that?

I as well i tried doing a blue tooth file transfer and music is on the card but does not show up when i launch the music app. i connected as a storage device on my macbook and put on my music files into the proper folder and still nothing. As well i delete the preloaded songs but it still shows up when i open the music player it cant get rid of them dont know how...Help...

Another question. There are some Apps i will never use like Stocks MP3 store, NASCAR and a few others how do i go about deleted these off the phone?

Also the bottom far right is a bit loose i can push it in and out dont know if thats normal i will be taking it back to best buy to show them dont think its suppose to be that way the other far right bottom corner is not like that.

Update---

It took about 2 minutes for it to clear out the other songs and add my new folders with my music it was strange.

I got my EVO this morning and am really excited about it. I'm coming from an iPhone so it is taking some getting used to Android. Appbrain has been extremely helpful, and I never would have found it without the direction of this forum, so thanks.

When I get text messages, I'm used to seeing them pop up on the screen when the phone is asleep. Are there lock screen apps that will let me do this? I want to be able to read the text message without unlocking the phone.

Get Handcent it has a setting to make messages pop up in a little window

When I go to my weather it says Home and under it America/Detroit and it doesn't let me delete that. But my home screen already said Jefferson County and Louisville wasn't in my list and I spoke it and Nashville cause I go there every now and again and it picked them both up by speaking I love it. I have lots of questions.

Anybody knows the difference between the Orange Qik Icon? and the Blue Qik? my phone came pre-loaded with the Orange one but the Blue Qik has different layout and you can Send video mail from... also can we remove the Orange pre-loaded one?

Thanks

Have my EVO and I'm posting from it right now....holy.crap.

How is the typing using the phone when entering forum responses. I know the hero was really slow and laggy when I tried to do replies. Is the keyboard lagging or causing odd words to show up when typing. This happened too me a lot. The word suggestions couldn't keep up, causing it to type odd words.

Hey guys, I'm completely new to the Android OS as of my purchase of an HTC Evo yesterday. I was poking around on the internet and this seemed like a good source for information with lots of knowledgeable people to answer any and all of my questions.

Anyway, I've got my stuff set up, for the most part, what I was wondering was what do I need to be doing to get videos and movies on my Evo so that I may watch them? I've been poking around in the folders when its connected to my laptop (got a Macbook Pro) and I really just am not sure where to load my files up (thats question 1) and what is the best and most recommended program for video conversion (question 2)? The vast majority of my movies are AVI, and from what I understand, HTC phones support MP4 and H.263 (or something, dont remember what the format is, haha), can anyone help? If this question was already answered previously in this post (or elsewhere on the forum), I apologize in advance.

Hey everyone.. im new here.. thought i'd pop in and say hi.. I picked up my EVO yesterday at a sprint store..

I originally was going to wait a bit.. but my BB curve 8830 started rebooting about every 10 minutes.. so then I figured I would go take a look  at the EVO. Well after about 5 minutes of playing with the in store demo.. I figured I would go ask the obvious question.. and asked one of the sales reps who'd helped me in the past if they had anymore in stock.. and he tells me no.

So I ask him if I can order one... he says no.. sprint just ships them when they ship them....

So I told him I could just go on sprint.com or call and order one.. but I can't order one in a corporate store?

So he looks around.. and says.. well.. this guy was supposed to be back 15 minutes ago to pick his up.. and he didnt show... if you want it... its yours...

THAT decision took all of 2 seconds.. I had to do a BTA because RMS was down (nationwide from what the rep said on the phone when we did the ESN swap) but I walked out 15 minutes later with an EVO... no preorder... nothing.. just walked in.. and walked out.. and lemme tell ya.. im in LOOOOVE

Can someone point me to a good unboxing video. And/or tell me what's in the box? Just the phone + USB cable + manual? Is the cable a wall adapter type or USB wall adapter + USB cable or what? Any other accessories in the box?
I got the wall plug w/mini USB which by the way don't have any yet so you can plug into your TV. Plus I got a free Bluetooth ear piece. Manual is there to. Hope that helps.

Who else is a little disappointed in how long the power charging cord is that came with the phone? I plug mine in a wall outlet and it cant even reach the top of my dresser. Thank god its micro usb and other electronics I use have chargers I can use.
