Unless I read today's story wrong there were two new designs and the other that you don't have pictured looks like the design from the two linked stories from the other day, minus "a Google company".

Interesting. Could the X Phone be for emerging markets? And the Razr Ultras be the better phone?

In all reality: the SGS4 Google Edition looks great, but (naturally) it's not for Verizon. So I think your money's safe, Bread. I won't hold my breath for a Verizon N5 on Verizon, either.

If the "customized" part is just about cosmetics I say, "meh". I have never cared what color my phone is.
Internals would be quite different though. One thing that has me very nervous is wireless Qi support. I recently invested in some Qi chargers for the house and car and I don't want that to be wasted on my next phone.
The specs so far sound fine for me because I don't care about playing games. My GNex's screen size and resolution is fine, though I'm done with pentile screen burnin'ing battery killing OLED. My wife's S3 is plenty fast enough. It's all about the battery.
Give me Google updates, NFC, good radio, Qi charging, and a huge battery. It would also be nice if GPS could be on all the time like bluetooth and wifi and not kill the battery. I'm not saying enabled, actually on.
I read this article (Gyroscopes the Size of Sand Will Track You Anywhere (Even Underground)) awhile ago. I just saw this (The future of GPS Chips: Sony to launch low powered GPS chips aided by motion sensors - Geoawesomeness) as well, but it wouldn't be enough time to get into this phone.

Well Samsung is selling the developer edition VZW (back ordered of course)
Unless, I hear something spectacular about this phone in the next week or so that's the route I'm going. So far, most of the rumors point towards a "mid" level device which isn't what I'm looking for.
Well Crash, the SGS4 would have to be a dev edition for me to buy it. After that cheesy reveal Samsung did, the SGS4 seems... gimmicky to me. I would have to be able to root and ROM it and remove the gimmicks.
But do we really NEED 1080p on a phone? Does a 5" screen running 1080p at 441ppi look that much better than a 720p at 338ppi? Really?
With talk of the Droid Ultra line coming out this fall/winter (right about upgrade time), and custom configuration of the Moto X, the SGS4 gets less and less appealing to me.
We'll see.

Getting the phone bug again, looking for the next epic thread and now being pretty much completely let down.
Dual core doesn't bother me. I have a dual core in the Nexus 10 and it rocks. But S4 pro? Why not Snapdragon 600 or 800? 720p screen? I have that in my pocket now. Been disappointed in Verizon's phones for a while, but it's approaching critical mass soon unless they have something better on the horizon.
Motorola needs a flagship product. OK, its fine if you want to build an affordable, easy to customize phone. But a flagship is what gets people in the door. Aiming for mediocrity is a sure sign you've given up.
Well if you're ok with dual core it won't be a 600 or 800, since they are both quad. A dual S4 pro is as good a dual as you'll get from Qualcomm, and not very different from the non-existent "dual core 600" apart from using last year's branding.

I think the flagship theory is going to become null and void. OEM's are pushing out the latest and greatest, faster and smarter, and all that jazz. Having flagship devices are good for those who have the money. But the problem is that not everybody can afford it. This caters to a limited pool of customers.
Releasing a new flagship phone every year/year +.5 and it can end up alienating the customer base. This is actually why I think unless iPhone drastically changes in future iterations, they are going to go belly up. You can only hype things up so much before people realize that they spent $650 going from the 4S to 5 only to find a few changes and tweeks, nothing earth shattering.
I think Motorola's strategy of building a phone based on affordability is visionary. Look at the economy at it's current state. Money is tight these days.
If the Moto X is a quality phone in build and design at an affordable price, they are going to create a massive customer base right off the bat. I have an upgrade soon and I am waiting impatiently for this device because I can get it when it's hot. I don't have to wait a year or two when it becomes more affordable to get.

Yeah, the Ultra is sounding better and better... if Nexus 5 fails to launch on Verizon, either the Ultra or Ultra Maxx may be my next phone
