Expect official word about the Motorola Moto X on July 11th

Leo Laporte has said that he was invited by new Motorola employee Guy Kawasaki to an event at Motorola on July 10th and 11th.

It was not made clear what the event would be about, but Kawasaki apparently made it clear that it was an event for select tech journalists, and that it was going to be something quite important. It's possible that the event will also include word on the Motorola DROID RAZR Ultra devices

Just follow @evkeaks on Twitter.

I'm hoping when they say "designed by you" they're talking hardware and not the skin.

I know it is a different phone but here is the Droid Maxx..

Those are stinkin' capacitive buttons! Come on, Google, on-screen buttons, PLEASE! Capacitive buttons are so.... 2009 :p

Seriously: after having a Nexus for 2 years, I will NOT go back to capacitive buttons. I just can't stand the extra bezel at the bottom when that could all be screen.

Lol 2009, on-screen with the Gnex didn't hit until end of 2011, as you say.

What were the very first Gnex mods? Changing the buttons and getting rid of the obligatory Google search bar on the home screen.

I'm using a set of three capacitive buttons and I'm loving them.

The rom I'm using allows mapping just about any function or app for each + long press.

Long press home gives me context sensitive search, and that can be Google Now or search, my choice, on the home screen. Recent apps button is that plus overflow (menu) and back is that or app exit.

Pretty handy, never lacking for functions and never losing screen real estate.

As for the bezel, fair enough, but Motorolas are an exercise in the bezel - bigger in 2D to be thinner with more battery.

So this bezel looks good to me, better than others they've made in my opinion.

And if we have to live with a larger bezel anyway, then bring on some use for it and then get some more use by customizing it.

The negatives that have been put out recently by the blogosphere are so far all positives for me. :)

DOH!

You're right... shows how long it's been since I broke my Beloved Droid out of retirement to look her over. 2011 then. December 15th. 9:30 AM. I remember THAT, anyway :)

As long as space is
being used for capacitive keys I prefer 4 keys, all programmable.

Looking thru the FCC papers for the XT1080(Moto Ultra) it mentions the battery as SNN5924A. I couldn't find that battery through Google. The closest I found was SNN5905A and it is rated 1780mAh. I don't know the if battery and phone model numbers follow the same number structure? It looks like they do. Maybe a 25A is around 2300mAH? I have no idea? The XT1080 is the Ultra and I'm not seeing anything for the XT1080m.

I also found of mention of "DUT"(whatever that is) supports simultaneous Voice and LTE allowing a 1x CDMA voice call while also providing an LTE link for data transport. I'm not sure if that is something new or all newer phones have that? This is only the second time I've looked at FCC papers and a lot of it is charts and graphs that are way over my head.

EDIT: Found something new about the battery. They used two...SNN5924A 2130mAh and Snn5925A 3500mAh. The mAh numbers were right in the report. So I'm guessing Ultra and Ultra Maxx?

Moto Ultra in white? http://www.droid-life.com/2013/07/07/motorola-droid-ultra-makes-first-appearance-in-white/

In the past few years you can use CDMA voice and LTE at the same time. The newest thing is to have dual LTE antennas for 2 reasons. 1 is to do VoLTE an data at the same time and 2 it will allow faster data speeds because while one antenna downloads the other can upload.

VoLTE requires one antenna, we have a few phones out there supporting the feature, and one on a little MVNO that actually does it on one phone model.

But as you say OOP - it should really improve operations and help in future-proofing the device.

DUT - engineering term meaning Device Under Test.

Sprint phones starting supporting exactly that in 2012 beginning with the Evo 4G LTE.

So, newer but not brand-new, and dictated by the carrier. Sprint insists on it for their new 4G phones for example.

Ditto on the good hunting - I think I trust halon for my Moto X news more than anywhere else. Dude - you make it too easy!! :) :) :)

Would the FCC documents have to include information about wireless charging, of is that out of their scope?

Out of scope so far as I recall. I think that the phone doesn't transmit for wireless charging.

The FCC docs reveal a great deal but only a fraction is made public to protect intellectual property.

A few years back they screwed up and there was a brief window with the download for the full schematics on a model I ended up buying.

Good times but hugely rare.

Such a leak would have allowed us to answer that one, but we'll have to wait.

Moto X phone to sport a so-called Clear Pixel camera with gesture controls

It turns out that the Moto X phone might "feature a Clear Pixel Camera...

The thing he writes about the camera is that "dark, blurry pics and lack of details will be things of the past," and one comment reminds us of a technology Kodak had a while ago that incorporates panchromatic, or "clear" pixels, like the arrangement you see on the right, to achieve two to four times better light sensitivity. Whether the Moto X camera will use a similar technology, and will this result in better low-light pictures in reality, remains to be seen.

Not the "X" phone news.

Motorola DROID Ultra Fully Revealed - TheUnlockr

Droid-Ultra-503x460.png

One nice feature that should be a warm welcome for Motorola fans accustomed to sub-par imaging from the company’s handsets: the camera is said to be a so-called 10-megapixel RGBC model, which will apparently contain an extra sensor (the “C”) that helps establish white balance and exposure. The end result is faster captures and, more importantly, better-looking shots in more diverse environments.

The rest of the specs were only a guess at this time, but a fairly educated one: expect a ~5-inch full HD display, Snapdragon 800 quad-core processor, and 2GB of RAM; you know, a flagship smartphone circa 2013. With Motorola holding a reportedly non-Moto X event in just a few days (on the 11th), chances are pretty good that the whole new DROID family will soon be revealed.

I'm not liking the look of the white Ultra. I like the black one with the kevlar on the front.

Now it seems like there are more choices for Verizon customers such as myself, which is a nice surprise. I will most likely go with the Ultra Maxx, unless there will be high capacity battery version for Moto X. This may not be likely based on a recent statement that talked about how thin the phone will be (I forget the source, sorry).

So far, it sounds like to me the Ultra series will be announced July 11. The Moto X series will be announced Aug 1. The way the dude and the girl were jumping in the water, makes me think they will call the Moto X flagship phone, the X1. Subsequent phones may be called X2 then X3. It's possible that the high end specs will be for Ultra series and mid-level specs are for the Moto X phones.

I guess Motorola is still under some kind of contract or agreement to make Verizon exclusives. I'm glad for that, considering how much I like my Moto Razr M.

I was looking for a speaker and I finally noticed the 3 holes at the bottom. Then someone pointed out the housing around the lens and flash looks like a speaker grill.
