The (maybe) "Epic" Motorola X Pre-Release Thread

Same here, we have reports from financial anylists who estimated the cost of manufacturing at $225. Now, they could have gone cheaper in China and it would have been easier, might have made the price to manufacture at about $150 per unit.

I think the strategy is to go in at a low retail price to flood the market with less expensive phones. Now that Motorola is backed by Google, this makes a lot of sense. If any losses occured upfront with the Moto X, Google can make up for on the back end.

Not sure what the mfg price from overseas would be after trade tariffs.

The blogosphere is very big on tossing a lot of numbers around and dogging the "assembled in the USA" tag - not sure that they have a clue to be honest.

Also, what's everyone opinion on quad core versus dual core trade offs in the mobile world? All information points to dual core on the Moto X. I'd like to think that new X8 moto chip config will help future proof the device but I'm wary.

This particular dual core will be more than fine. :)

I've heard this revealing event is supposed to be an all day event?
... What exactly do they do to fill the time? I've never been nor watched one, but I'd think they make some outlook speeches, some appreciation speeches, delve into the revealing, do some testing/benchmark revealing or demo, then go into specifics
... What? Like 2 hours minimum, but definitely not 5 or more hours?

So different reporters were allowed to preview different aspects of the phone, and that dictated their embargo time? So it's going to be a phased release of info as well...

Hopefully the live twitter feed motorola mobility said they will have will be good enough. I can see Engadget getting on this somehow as well.

Still though, live stream > this.

info already coming. At&t has exclusive on colors.

Moto X coming to all major US carriers, but AT&T nabs exclusive on color options | The Verge

also

The Moto X is coming to every major carrier in the United States. Verizon Wireless, AT&T, Sprint, and T-Mobile will all be offering the handset starting at $199.99 on contract, with smaller provider US Cellular also planning to include Moto X in its lineup. The $199.99 price tag gets you a Moto X with 16GB of storage; select carriers will also a 32GB model at a higher premium. (AT&T has priced it at $249.99.)

My understanding was there were several sessions throughout the day today, gag order in place so that all the news comes out at once.

The 9pm eastern thing confuses me too. Other than maybe he had hands on opportunity whereas the sessions today are more "look here it is, this is what it does, these are the neat features, here are the colors, this is how and when you can order it ... blah blah blah"

So anyway, that's my 2 cents.

Rumors killed -

You don't have to be on ATT to get colors.

Edit - except according to Droid Life - "Starting at launch exclusively for AT&T, buyers can head to the MotoMaker website and design their very own Moto X. With the customization choices vast between build materials, colors, engravings and cases, there is no doubt you can make one that you will instantly love looking at."

Video is 1080p/30fps, not 60 (same confusion as with the One prerelease).

32GB available, not just a 16GB only phone.

But that's online only. Online from whom and for what?

same here :(
blarg... and I was actually looking forward to this phone off-contract.

It figure though, being built in US is not cheap.

that's what I was thinking too... so not entirely killed yet?
nevertheless... i think the potential off-contract price may be a deal-breaker for me.
If on-contract price is $200/$250... well, that doesn't leave too much room for off-contract prices
I must say - I'm a bit disappointed, flustered, and frustrated :\ so far with the announcements.

Well I'm still between the Ultra/Maxx and the G4. Nothing blew me away here. It's the Mini with custom backs.

motomaker.com and 50 bucks more, so pricing rumors were correct 200 and 250 but for ON CONTRACT.

I am highly disappointed by the pricing. It's no different than anything else and I am not sure what the point is in getting a phone that you know does not and will not have the hardware of the likes of the G2 and for the same coin.

VERY VERY let down.
