The (maybe) "Epic" Motorola X Pre-Release Thread

Someone should go to an AT&T or T-Mobile store and ask if they have the Moto X. There's always someone somewhere that sells early if they have the product.

I'm a big fan of what Connect seems to be. It will be nice to forget your phone on the coffee table on vibrate, sit down at the desktop and still receive text and call notifications.

And XDA will have it working on other phones in 3... 2... 1...

That's a cool concept even just for when I'm sitting at work.

This is exactly what I love about Google Voice. I can text and answer calls from my laptop, no need to have my phone handy.
It'll be great to have it for my regular number too, I don't have GV set up to forward SMS to that. Handy indeed!!

MightyText already does that. I'd much rather reply to a text by typing on my laptop instead of my phone. With Chrome, incoming texts are displayed as a popup

Has there been any new info on the camera or sample shots? All that I've read is that its a 10mp rear sensor. Looking to upgrade from a Galaxy Nexus to something else a high quality camera is on the top of my wish list. I've heard good things about the HTC One camera (though I'm not holding my breath on VZW anytime soon) but I'm hoping Moto can include a nice sensor on this.

Only thing out there is speculation at this point, but there is reason to be optimistic.

Rumor has it that it's a 10 or 10+ megapixel shooter with "clearpixel" technology. That's a Kodak technology, nothing new, but new to mobile. It's along the lines of "ultrapixel" on the HTC One captures more light, reduces blur, plus the X is supposed to have a nice simple interface with some nice options.

true. Just looked that up. Seems promising.

We're all itchin' for facts my man. Just gotta hold tight a little longer. Heck I remember back in January wondering if the Google X/Ghost/Motorola X Phone/Google-Moto NeXus phone was even REAL.

Well now we KNOW so much about it and just want .... the rest of the story.
:D

Trying to check out #MeetMotoX and it's mostly people telling Google to stop funding climate deniers.

Tell me about it.

crossing my fingers for an early release date. If the leaked VZW roadmap with the late August release is true I'll be happy.

Does it mean the hdmi connection is also 720p? If so that will look terrible on big screen.

Looks like it will be able to take video in 1080p. So, the connetion will probably be the same.

As a first for any camera phone, the Moto x will be able to shoot 1080p video in a full 60 frames per second. It also features 4xHD Vvideo capture which bins 4 pixels together to create one perfect pixel. Video can also be played back in slow motion at 30 FPS. Want some even more interesting news? The Moto X will apparently contain 3 separate microphones that will enable 3d audio recording. The Moto X is shaping up if true to be an audio video powerhouse in a phone.

So what is the max price that you would pay for this phone? Eric Schmidt just tweeted that he was proud of Motorola for manufacturing it in the US, instead of taking the easiest and cheapest way... I'm wondering if that is a sign that it may be more than most are expecting...

I'm going with the rumor of $299 and $349.

I'd like to pay $200 but would pay $300 if it turns out to be a truly great device.

The GS4 (16gb) is $200 with a 2 year agreement that's their top tier phone. If Moto is going to market the Moto X as the competition I'd say you have to stay in the ballpark.

I'm going with the rumor of $299 and $349.

Same here, we have reports from financial anylists who estimated the cost of manufacturing at $225. Now, they could have gone cheaper in China and it would have been easier, might have made the price to manufacture at about $150 per unit.

I think the strategy is to go in at a low retail price to flood the market with less expensive phones. Now that Motorola is backed by Google, this makes a lot of sense. If any losses occured upfront with the Moto X, Google can make up for on the back end.

Also, what's everyone opinion on quad core versus dual core trade offs in the mobile world? All information points to dual core on the Moto X. I'd like to think that new X8 moto chip config will help future proof the device but I'm wary.

Upgrade time really does rock. I'm having a hard time getting jazzed for this phone though. ~4.7" screen, ~same as the GNex. On screen nav keys eating up some of that real estate, same as the GNex. Same processor and almost the same screen specs as the recently announced Droid Mini. The Kodak camera sounds cool that I guess the Mini won't have.

So far I've seen nothing that would lure me away from either the Droid Ultra/Maxx or the S4. But... 3:00 is still over an hour off :D
