Oh :p is that why we had to do this today?

I finally did something today. I changed the air filter, the rear wiper blade, the washer hose to the rear wiper, and checked the fluids on the Jeep.

I am under 14 thousand shy of 200 thousand on it.

That's quite a lot of miles on it. My car has about 100,000 and its breaking down left and right.

I got rid of my last car at 170k and it was still running great, but I needed to get better than 18 MPG seeing as how i drive about 20K miles a year.

I get about 23 or so from mine. I think my catalytic converter may need some unclogging, power is reduced.

I want a Tesla so bad. I could go anywhere.

They look nice, but range is too limited for me and recharge time is a bit long.

There's a handful of charging stations and a dealership in DC for Tesla, but we live in an apartment so charging at home isn't an option. Range generally isn't an issue and if we travel to NC to visit the in-laws we could always fly or rent a car (can't imagine there's many charging stations in rural VA).

For some it may be an option (short distance run about), but it can't carry what my Jeep can. Even with at home charging, those recharge times are really poor when compared to the few minutes it takes to fill the tank of the Jeep and go over 400 miles on it. Now if they could make it constantly have a range of over 300 miles (without babying it on the driving), with a recharge time of say 10 minutes, then they would have something.

Charging is 100% free and always will be.

You still have to pay the electric bill.

Yep, and the Tesla website even has a cost calculator which according to their estimates and what I pay for electricity ($0.08/kWH) to go 35 miles would cost me $0.92 for the electricity.

Considering the cost of fuel now at $3.60/gallon, over the course of 100K miles it would save me $7,657.15 assuming all things stayed the same.

Now, since my current car (2011 Mitsubishi Outlander) cost me ~$24k and the Tesla similarly equipped would be ~$65k, there's an over $33k premium on the Tesla.

My Jeep only cost me 1,900.00 so I'm coming out way ahead cost wise. How much is the Tesla's battery pack which would need to be replaced by a hundred thousand miles.
