The worst speakerphone I've ever heard

I'm a reasonably experienced (and happy!) Androider - Eris, then Incredible, Galaxy Tab, and now a freshly rooted Droid X.

The DX is the best cellphone I've ever known, but the speakerphone function is horrible - tinny, screechy, with no midrange. It's like listening to a tweeter...

Side by side with my wife's cheap non-smart-phone, the DX truly sucks.

Is my phone faulty, or are they all this way? And if it's faulty, how difficult is it to replace the speakerphone module? It took five minutes on the HTC Incredible...

Thanks!

my speakerphone is loud and crisp, it also depends on several things reception, signal, apps in the background, the other person, not all cell phones will have the same service, and just because you are on 3 bars or 4 bars of 3G doesnt means its a good signal. if its this way all the time, its probably a fault, but mine works like a champ.

Thanks, but I'm talking about media - not phone calls.

It's really weak as well as tinny. I just downloaded an equalizer from the Market, but it has little to work with.

You aren't alone, my fiancee isn't fond of the sound the X produces from the speaker (personally I don't think it's great either, but it's not terrible either :p) I think Moto skimped on this part of the X, and the placement of the speaker isn't ideal either, but I don't see it as too big of a deal ;)

that would make sense, lol sometimes its not that loud, other times it can be, i have been told with dsp manager it can be loud as crap.... dont see that happening though.

Yep, sometimes fine, not others. Music seems fine usually, but speaker phone almost alway sucks.

its not intended to to be a media/music speaker so what do you expect? lol

Sure it is. I stream music off it in the desk top dock all day. I watch movies in hotels with it. Speaker phone, cant hear jack, not clear, not loud.

the dock is more aimed at connecting it to hdmi ;) thus not using the speaker phone on it. So as I said not intended to be a stereo speaker ;)

DSP Manager actually works quite well. Simply enable the bass boost with the 'moderate' setting, maybe a little 'Treble Booster' in the EQ, and it'll beef up the sound significantly.

You can on the iphone!
Apple has a skyview that shows the camera blended with the skychart, so when you point it at Pluto, you can see it through the camera! Kewl.

ever heard of Google Sky? You cant SEE Pluto. You can see where it is in the sky via the map but you can't see Pluto. Idiots abound.
