Root Tired of Waiting for GB root/rom discussion

Yes, if you root you can deal with the low on space bug. You can install/setup and apply called Not Enough Space which moves app data elsewhere on the phone. Also many roms are less vulnerable to the problem.

I am sorry for continuing off topic but can some one point me in the direction of the "Root" discussion so i can try and learn more. I am looking to find out what ROM will work best for me and how to go through the process.

Which rom is closest to the real GB? I was unimpressed with Nils.

I run cyanogenmod. It does come with ADW Launcher so it isn't 100 percent stock but it is made from the latest build, 2.3.5, of Gingerbread. Plus you get a bunch of options to tweak the experience under cyanogenmod settings. Love this ROM!

I have been rooted for a long time now, and I am currently running Synergy. It can be a bit buggy but it is not bad and generally runs smooth. I feel like with my phone running the newest sense and android version, I don't really care if the official update comes out. Aside from the fact that it will help the rom be more stable I guess. I have my sights set on the Vigor, and my phone is totally fine now anyway so I am over it. This thread is still pretty entertaining though!

Do those run pretty smooth?

I don't know about Nils. I ran Kingdom for about a week. It was pretty good. Personally it seemed to not play nice with my widgetlocker settings. Others say it works fine. The advice given to me is flash a rom, put the bare minimum you use on it, run it for a couple hours with normal usage then flash another. When you find one you love, stick with it. I've tried 4 and came back to SkyRaider. It's not sense 3.0 but for my usage it works best.

So whats the consensus on a good rom that has sense 3.0?

I like the Nils' Business GingerSense 3.0. I am having SOME minor lag issues and forceclose issues. Pretty major google.frame force close. I powered off the phone and back on and it ran better. it hasn't happened since so not sure.Looks like there's an update for Business gingersense I think I'll update since this version seems buggy.[ROM] Nils' Business GingerSense 3.0 (8/11/11 V1.6) - xda-developers

I'm looking into trying the Kingdom GS 3.0 ROM but I think "EMMC Mounting" not working would be an issue for me since I use that at times.

I'm guessing that the 2.0, 2.1 roms work better? Really want all the features of 3.0 though. Really hoping that there is one that isn't buggy/everything works

If you don't use a lockscreen other than stock Kingdom was really sweet. You gonna make the jump there NA??

Well I'm thinking with Business GS 3.0 v 1.5 (the version I'm using) I just need to wipe out the phone again and reflash. It says on the site if you have lag issues and force close that you'll probably have to reflash the ROM. Wipe everything first then reflash.

Other than that it's pretty sweet. It has all the features of gingerbread and sense 3.0 that I can tell. I like it just that I think i need to reflash the ROM. I might use the ROM manager this time after the wipe instead of going into clockworkmod recovery to flash the ROM.

Also get titanium backup PRO. Totally worth the 6 bucks if you plan on flashing ROMs all the time.

Ive been on Nils since it came out. Everything works AFAIK except saving pics to internal which i don't do anyway. There's some lag but that's unavoidable...our phone isn't ideal for it but the graphics rock and its worth it IMO. I have no force close issues but occasionally my home screen will freeze forcing me to reboot. If you want speed, this ain't the ticket. But if you want top quality graphics and the new UI, its the best bet in my experience.

I'll put my vote in for Nils. I have used his pure 3.0 and 2.1/3.0 mix. Both are excellent ROMs. I haven't had any major issues with either, no noticeable lagging (but I'm coming from an Eris, so a phone that turns on in less than four minutes is freaking amazing) and no force close issues for me.

I haven't tried Kingdom so I can't compare the two.

cool, let me know if that improves things

Hmm, not sure I can handle lag... kinda impatient. Got a 6 core PC with 8gigs ram and I am just DYING to go ahead and max out to 16...

How noticeable is the lag? Is it stand-able?

I tried Nils and I didn't have that much lag other than the first boot up. Other than that you would only experience lag once in a blue moon but I find [ROM] [MikRoms] [2.1+3.0] Incredible 2 ReMix! RLS2.2 [7/27] the overall best. I get about 14-18 hours with moderate use but I've even gone as far as 24+ hours plus the camera and video camera quality was the best out of any ROM I've tried IMO. I'm a stickler for details but I would rate Nils camera 2nd best but it may be all in my head but video recording on 720p is by far better on ReMix but try both! I also find myself going back to MIUI as well. I just love being able to customize everything, including the boot screen. I have the old energy start boot screen lol but those are my .02

if you couldn't tell by now camera quality is very important to me lol

For me it's like a 2 second wait for message app to load up to see my text. i have a core i7 2600K with 8GB DDR3 RAM with a 10k VR so I know how you feel. It is slightly annoying but again I think the lag I have is because I need to reflash.

I'll post back and let ya know how 1.6 works (I have 1.5) I plan to do this maybe tomorrow.

I wish a sense gingerbread rom would work for me as I love the look of the sense 2.1/3.0 roms. The issue I have is none of them work with my Bluetooth (jawbone). That is a dealbreaker for me. The only gingerbread rom I have found that works right with Bluetooth is cm7, the nightly builds tend to do no good on the Bluetooth.

Sadly I may have just uncovered an issue with Nils ROM that may never be fixed thanks to XDA being too elitist to recognize him as a developer (with the amount of work he has done, how can they not? What moron made that decision? /rant)... it seems like the flash isn't synced with the camera on my phone. It's off by just enough to actually make the pictures worse/darker with the flash on then trying to take them without it.

Honestly, I'm not sure if this is an Incredible problem or a Gingersense problem... I didn't run any other roms or go stock long enough to notice it.

I've had that with all of the Gingersense roms. It whites out anything nearby and everything else is too dark. I haven't tried any other non 2.3 roms though.

You can fix darkness and lightness issues with ms paint. Either that or use a real camera. I don't particularly see this as an issue. If you want high quality photos you should be using an actual camera. not one on your phone. That's my opinion tho.

I just tried it and it doesn't happen on mine.

It states on the website if you have issues to wipe, clear cache, clear delvik, and reflash the ROM.

I have a pretty decent Canon dSLR that I use when I'm being serious about my photography. It doesn't fit real well in my pocket though and despite usually storing it in a hard case in my trunk (because I have learned to carry it as much as I can) it isn't always there when I'd like it to be.

I'm not asking for high quality photos. I'm asking for relatively decent 8mp photos with the assistance of a flash.

I have since last night discovered that the reason for the extremely low exposure (which is unusable, even with corrections performed in Photoshop CS5) is due to manually setting the ISO. Telling the phone what I'd prefer apparently angers it, so Auto is the only way to go while using the flash.

I updated to the Nil GS ROM from 1.5 to 1.6.

Some notes, I noticed I was using clockwork recovery 2.5.x and the ROM requires 3.x which would explain the issues I had. i just upgraded clockwork thru the ROM manager.

Version 1.6 is really nice and definitely worth upgrading. It increases available RAM and runs smoother. Although I did re-flash using the correct clockwork. I just updated it so i'll let ya know as I use it more.
