Root To Root or Not To Root...?

yes you can keep the sd card in, nothing on the sd card will be affected.
and I know it sucks you will have to redo all the settings as well as redownload the apps but as mentioned in the long run it will clear things up to work with the shabby mod better.

Okay, have to take the good with the bad, I guess...not a problem. So is that it, do I have to do anything else now, other than enjoy the phone and drain the battery by playing around with it...lol?

nothing required, there are however many things you can do that you may like, for that though I would look at past threads to find what you have available to you.

If you want to remove the start up sound I can help you do that right now, it is easy enough.
shabbymod comes with a file explorer just open the app drawer and find it click on it and browse to the /etc directory. find that file I told you about

PowerOn_standard.snd long press it and choose rename then add .bak to the end of it. hit ok and thats it.

I forgot that I had to re-d/l everything, had to redo Google, sign in, etc., so it may take me awhile to get the phone back to where I had it as far as apps, etc. goes...I've got your instructions for deleting the startup noise and will do that soon...going to spend some time getting apps back and such and will be back on later tonight or after work in the am...looking at the phone now it's doing all kinds of updates...thanks again for all of your help!!! I work 3rd shift so I really need to get some sleep...have been playing with phone alllll day...lol.

Thanks for the well wishes fellas !! I'm really glad this Forum is here . A lot of times it causes insomnia and I just come in here and read . I'm doing well compared to other people I've spoken with that have gone through it . Hope it stays that way . :D

Finally got back here, was a loonnngggg day yesterday, had to work and then make up for lost sleep...lol.

Best of wishes with the chemo, I know that it can be a challenge at times and drain your body, but I guess you need to sometimes feel bad to feel better.

I'm glad that I did take the plunge - the phone seems to be running sooo much smoother and faster now. No more freezing. Was kind of a pain to figure out which apps were REALLY there as they all showed up on the apps page and had to reload most all of them, but all-in-all everything's going well now.

Again, a HUGE thank you to new optimus for spending most of the day walking me through everything, giving me the encouragement and having the patience to try and teach a technology-absent newbie some new tricks. I really DO appreciate it!!

Thank you to all who have put so much into making this phone all it can be! :D

You are very welcome. And remember what I said, look around all the old threads and it will give you some ideas on what you may want to do with your phone.

Oh believe me, I've been reading till my eyes are crossed...lol. I did have one question though - not sure if it should go here or in the shabbymod thread, but somehow I've accidentally added a couple more of the home screens and was wondering how to remove them. I only need 3 screens, but now have 7 and the main screen isn't "centered" (as far as the dots just below the top bar are concerned). I think I did it when I was moving apps around. If it's an easy fix, that's great - if not, well it'll be time for me to continue learning how to do things on my phone. :)

Actually nvm, I figured it out.

I am glad you figured it out, I think you have the go launcher, which is not one I have tried.

I found it pretty much by accident, hit the menu key while on the home screen, then preferences, then under more settings hit restore to default. I'm just glad I didn't mess anything up...lol. I like exploring things on my phone now, but am being careful what I press and what I don't...I haven't done the boot sound thingy yet, too busy nosing around on the phone I guess. ;)

Another way to delete those pesky extra screens without having to restore defaults on the GO Launcher EX:

Hit Menu and then Edit. ALL the screens will appear as thumnaiils with little x's in the corner and one that just has a plus. You get the idea.

Restoring Defaults works too, but you might lose some other stuff that you set that you would like to keep.

If you DO a lot of stuff to customize, remember to backup configuration. This may come in handy after the next Shabbymod updatej, although you usually still have to manually reload your widgets.
