Root Trouble installing app to sd card

Well, I flashed the clean Harmonia 1.9. I didn't download my apps, I just got my TiBu and restored my file explorer. Then I installed the amazon app store. Then I tried to install the stubborn apps that wouldn't go on my phone previously.

Still will not install. That was with a clean rom, no apps, no Link2sd, nothing...

So either my phone is defective in some way, or these apps are not compatible with this phone's system... How possible is it that the apps would install on a gingerbread or later rom? Maybe they won't work on froyo-based devices.

I could try flashing the harmonia gingerbread rom...

...or give up, LOL. :)

Thats very possible, but that's a big jump forward. A lot of new things to learn with Gingerbread. I think it's wise to make the jump, better security, and more ways to give the phone your personal touch.

Ok, it is something I'm considering, but not sure I have time and capacity to learn new system. What would be biggest changes/challenges do you think?

Mostly, just the things in the
CyanogenMod settings. You don't need to download a CPU app, it's already intergrated in (Performance section)
The widget bar that holds up to 5 widgets in the pull down, the controls are in there.
You can choose where dowloaded apps go. Internal storage, external, or automatic (Lets the app decide).
Other stuff you would just have to see about as this is where developers add cool tweaks, all in this CyanogenMod setting.

Great to know, thanks!

Sorry, what's the widget bar? Hope I don't say "duh" when you tell me, LOL.

I think I'm going to try LeslieAnn's Harmonia GB rom and see if I can get the amazon apps to work. If that doesn't do it, then I give up.

I'm assuming i can use Link2sd with GB and all the other apps/setup I had before?

Widgets are the shortcuts to various system functions. The widget bar is just under the task bar and hidden until you move the pulldown screen down, Some of the widgets you can put there are: WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS, Data, Airplane Mode, Silent-Vibrate-Ring, etc.

Yes. Link2SD works great with Gingerbread ROMs.

Optimus V Roms

H1.9 (froyo)
H2.09 (gingerbread)

as to your apk installation problem, anytime you 'restore data' after flashing a new rom, youre asking for problems... some do, some dont... i do not advise it...
* format partitions thoroughly
* flash rom
* flash gapps
* reboot
* activate playstore/superuser>dl/install your desired apks>dl astro file manager
* reboot recovery
* format cache/dalvik cache
* reboot
* activate astro file manager>manage applications>select all>backup
(now you have a folder named 'backups' on your sdcard that contains all the apks that you installed, which can now be used, for future use, to install these apks via file manager, on the same android version that they were backed up on, instead of playstore)...

Im sure you have probably already researched this subject, but i thought i would elaborate a bit for noobs/glance readers... :-)

I appreciate you taking the time to share insight on my issue. I'm not thoroughly researched and I'm definitely techno illiterate, so all help is appreciated. I'm assuming the list of instructions is for what to do when flashing a new rom? i have a couple questions regarding your steps.

LeslieAnn says in the Harmonia GB thread that GAPPS (which I'm not even familiar with) is unnecessary. Are you saying I need to flash it anyway? I don't even know what GAPPS is or where to get it, but could figure it out if needful.

I use Titanium Backup pro and Link2sd currently. How would those two things fit into the above?

Are you thinking that the reason I cannot successfully install apps from the amazon store has something to do with corruption resulting from how i flash my rom?

Thanks!

actually, im leaning towards corrupted data from restoring from tb... or the app(s) in question, are not compatible with the roms sdk... i have seen this problem numerous times on numerous forums...

i was implying that you cannot restore froyo apps to gb, etc.,etc...

the instructions i provided are just a simplified rom install/full application backup method... i did not list the exact partitions to be formatted, nor my full recommended method... so no, i can not call it an installation guide...

heres a link to a guide by leslieann (mine is a bit more lenghtly):
How to properly wipe your Android (update,clear,new rom, etc..) - Android Forums at AndroidCentral.com

OK andy, to give you an update...I flashed the Harmonia Gb rom. I grabbed file explorer and installed the amazon app store. I did NOT restore any of my apps. i found the two apps in question that would not previously install. i installed them, one at a time. they both installed this time! BUT, they will not open... so, i'm still calling this a fail, LOL.

Now, my problem is that I want to go back into my recovery and flash my backup and go back to my froyo harmonia system (just in the 10 minutes i had the GB on, I'm not ready for it...not ready to learn new system this week and i like the way my other harmonia froyo looks better).

BUT, eeekkk...i can't remember how to get into recover and it's not in the menu when you press the power button, like i had on the froyo rom. HElp? TIA!

edit...NVMD, i searched online and figured out the key combo...home, volume down, power. Wow, my brain is like a sieve since i turned 40, LOL!! :)

So, I'd say the amazon apps still just don't want to work. At least with clean slate GB they would install, but not work...weird!

edit again:
forgot to ask this before, but I noticed two weird things when I flashed the GB rom. As soon as it was up, I signed into google play and got TiBu. I have paid for and use the pro version. But when I grabbed it from the market, it showed that I didn't have the pay version. When I opened TiBu to get File Explorer, it asked me to upgrade to pro. Why would that happen when I have pro? I thought that was Play account specific, not rom specific?

Then, when I tried installing the amazon apps, and they said they did install, I looked for them in TiBu and they weren't there...I thought I could back them up...but they never showed up. Any time I tried to click the app's icon, it wouldn't open, but said it needed to force close. So obviously they didn't really install.

I'm more curious now about the TiBu pro thing with the newly flashed GB rom...any input? TIA!

Sorry to hear that it didn't work. Would you mind revealing which specific Amazon apps are those troublesome ones? I'm just curious...

Your purchased TB Pro is associated with the Android ID that was generated with the Froyo ROM. A different Android ID is generated with a new ROM as you'd with the GB ROM. I experienced this same issue with one of my apps when I switched from Backside to MiRaGe--and both of them were GB-based ROMs too. I was able to change the new Android ID back to the previous ID that was associated to that app. Here's the thread that provided the necessary info:

Change android id - Simply Android

The specific instructions I used are from ngiordano's post at:

The apps were both kid learning apps...Pair Up and Manic Math. Both were free app of the day, and the only free app of the day i've ever downloaded. Other apps from amazon have worked fine. Maybe something in my phone doesn't like free apps! :)

Nothing obvious or out of the ordinary... seems like fairly regular apps. :confused: Maybe their graphics requirements exceed the OV's graphics capabilities? Just speculating... :o

That is a good thought...I was wondering initially if something in the apps made them incompatible with OV...

Sorry to hear they just won't work.

As far as the market/Titanium Backup situation, try installing a earlier version of the market . This is why I have Root Uninstaller Pro. It saves all downloaded apps in their apk form. It does not auto delete the old one. If an apdated app is messed up, I just install the old apk that did work.
AppTyant (same developer as Root Uninstaller) does the same thing.

I have a tutorial in the All Things Root Guide sticky that explains everything you need to know to install a ROM.

Yeah, I think the apps are just incompatible for some reason. I successfully downloaded today's free app of the day from amazon, which was chess. Not a problem at all...

Thanks for the info and advice on Root Uninstaller Pro...I'll take a look into it.
