I've got an htc evo 4g that i got from a friend it was already rooted. I have no experience with this. I want to unroot my phone in order to do the htc software updates. I tried uninstalling superuser and that didn't work. Please any help would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to AF!
First let me say, I would highly recommend staying rooted as you can easily flash a rom that has updates in them.
If you would like to read about rooting then see this.

However, it is your phone and you if would like to unroot, then we need to get some info off of it...from the bootloader screen to be specific...so,
Pull battery, put battery back in....then while holding the volume down button, push and hold power button until your bootloader screen comes up.
Then just post back here everything written there and we can direct you to the correct unrooting guide ok?:D

Kinda looks to me like you are set yes?

My phone still has super user and clockwork in it, although it says i am no longer rooted. So are you saying I'm completely unrooted?

It's not an OTA I'm trying to do its an htc update. I'm sorry to sound ignorant but how would i go about installing a stock recovery? This isn't really my neck of the woods lol

Which update are you thinking of installing?
OTA updates are htc updates....there a few of them since froyo, which I believe is what you have now based on your radio/hboot version.
Do you have the ruu file or the pc36img file yet for the update or do you need that?

System Upgrade 4.54.651.1 is the one it always tries to do. My sister has an Evo to and she's at 5 something, so i know im behind. The only file I have is Unrevoked forever s-on. I couldn't find a pc36img last night that the link worked.

ok
Down load this

Dev-Host - PC36IMG_SuperSonic_GB_Sprint_WWE_4.67.651.3_Radio_2.15.00.12.19_NV_2.33_release_234563_signed.zip - The Ultimate Free File Hosting / File Sharing Service

Rename it to PC36IMG.zip (do not add an extra .zip to the end, bootloader will not see it otherwise)
Put it on sd card. (not in any folder, just on the top, or, root of the card)
The boot into bootloader like you did before....give it a minute and it will scan for that file and then it will see it....it will ask you to update....say yes....then it will ask you to reboot....say yes....
Just remember to rename the file as I posted and not in any folder.
:)

Thank you so much!! I was just wondering what are the advantages of having a rooted phone? Is it like having a Jailbroken iPhone?

Quick question I am trying to unroot my phone from MikMik back to stock since I'm selling the phone. I can't seem to get either the RUU or PC36IMG.zip to work. I have the PC36IMG.zip on my SDcard but the hboot never asks to upgrade after reading the file.

Also, it appears since I'm on hboot 2.18 that I need an RUU with version 5 but can't seem to find one.

what size card do you have? and what is your radio?

at the moment i have not seen a 5.07 RUU.

ok so this is what you want:
http://d-h.st/PsRRUU_SuperSonic_GB_Sprint_WWE_4.67.651.3_Radio_2.15.00.12.19_NV_2.33_release_234563_signed.exe

just download and run it on your computer. make sure that the phone is on charge only and that you have usb debugging is turned on.

edit:sorry on my tablet. my browser is having issues. lol

here is the link:
RUU_SuperSonic_GB_Sprint_WWE_4.67.651.3_Radio_2.15.00.12.19_NV_2.33_release_234563_signed.exe - 222.08 MB

I actually already had that version and get Error 155 each time I try to run it. The process starts but once it tries to put the phone in bootloader it fails.

you sure it was a ruu and not the PC36IMG version? also it could be a bad download. try this one and see if it will work.

ok so just had a thought. is your bootloader locked or unlocked now? if it is unlocked then you need to relock the bootloader. you can follow the HTCdev site for directions. once re-locked then try the ruu. now keep in mind you will have the watermark still so techs will know that it was rooted. just an fyi.
