well i hope this sheds a little light on what a lot of us already knew. while the UD roms maybe great roms, they are only great because of all the work the unmentioned developers put into the code and scripts. The UD team needs to really think about what they are doing. This has gotten way out of hand. And for 2 pioneers in the rom development genre (Cyanogen & Koush) to be dissed as say, is pretty lame in my eyes.

Yup, that follows what I've been watching at DF..that's for sure. I'm awaiting the "findings" from the mods over at DF.

It would seem quite easy for BD to get more specific in his first post as far as Credit goes. I also have not followed the flaming close enough to know what caused the fallout between Koush and BD. So I am in no way standing behind all of BD's actions.

What I do know is that the UD ROM has many of the features I have been interested in all mashed into one, so it is a shame to me that things are happening such as they are. It would be nice if BD would do things right and get along with the other devs..
 
I agree with you more and more, but I still say this - why was he able to make a stable ROM out of pieces of the best of other ROMs and the other devs *not* able to?

Oh, well, I may just go back to plain old 2.1 non rooted and be done with it....

I am wondering this also..which is why I am watching his section, and have posted a findings/fixes thread over there. I/we all will be able to tell if there are any unique combinations of features not found in other ROMS through my thread and others. If in fact he has gotten new combinations of things to work together, then he has done more than they say.. if not, then he definitely needs to Credit the original devs even more.

I'm sure Pete,Koush or maybe even DM will come up with an even better(and legit)ROM soon. Koush's ROM is rightfully better already of course..but not the same combo-of-things as UD.
 
Thanks for posting all those twitter links, JohnGalt. I had a little difficulty following that, but did I gather correctly that the permissions in BD 10 cite back to CyanogenMod? If so, I don't think you need much more proof of thievery than that!

My guess is that no one else is trying. All the other devs are doing mostly their own thing not trying to rip off everyone else.

I honestly dont see at all what his rom brings to the table that Cyanogenmod does not but then again I have never tried his roms.
 
I checked the permissions, but all I saw was a link to .XML files - I suppose that actually doing a

would offer said proof - unless there was something I missed. I tweeted to Koush about it but haven't heard back yet.
 
From what I gather, UD10 is CM, with some helpful market apps and apps from XDA bundled in as system apps.

I didn't investigate too much though, as that thread was a mess earlier today.
 
lol just went into rom manager and under Ultimate Droid it now says "Another CyanogenMod based theme!" Well played koush well played
 
This sucks. I don't know if I was banned or what over there, but I can't log in. I didn't even know about all this crap until just now, but I couldn't log in over there. I just figured they banned me because I told some groupies to shove it in their asses for being jerks to the newbs. They were trying to install UD 10 like an update.zip, I guess. I figure BD made it a nandroid so it couldn't be put in ROM Manager? Idunno.
All very adolescent if you ask me. Both of them. Cyanogen or Kouch or whoeverthehell it is should just take BDs ROM, make it better, rebrand it and release it, that's all.
There's a lot of energy being wasted. Them bitches should stfu & get back to work! :D

You have obviously never made anything and had some one else claim it as their own. Its rather infuriating.
 
Just sent one of the mods over on DF a PM giving him the link from Koushes tweet about the permissions... As I have stated before, as an artist this is infuriating, I don't mind if anyone uses my work (in fact I'm flattered by it) however if you are going to use it at least give credit. The problem we all have here is not that he is taking open source and making a ROM the problem is that not only does he not give credit for it, but in the past when called on it he blatantly lied and tried to claim it was all his work.
 
I don't even know if I need to say anything about this. Most of you know how I feel about blackdroid already. This is horrible though, I mean if Google is god of Android then Cyanogen is Jesus Christ. For droidforums to ban someone like him is just pathetic and in my eyes that forum is nothing but a cash cow for it's owners. They do not care about Android AT ALL.

Nope. On the contrary. I was a jeweler, and someone stole my design and made money off it. But there was nothing I could do. My client base would never do business with me again if I ever spoke ill of the artist that ripped me off. They would be too embarrassed to buy anything again from someone behaving in such a petty fashion.
We're talking about a $10,000 gold bracelet, btw. Not some free ROM.

This kiddie-fight makes everyone look like douches, not just BD. I would pay for these ROMs, gladly, too. The fact that they are free does not change my consumer mentality regarding them. It's the end product I care about, and nothing else. Instead of "giveashit", I'd much rather give money. It's less work for me. This is just downright exhausting.
This is not to say I'm completely empathetic to what Koush is going through. But attempting to stain BlackDroid's rep by tossing a bucket of cybershit on him doesn't do me any good at all, and will only give Koush mild & temporary satisfaction at best.
If he went and just simply copied BlackDroid's ROM and made it better and easy for any moron with a Droid to install it in 4 minutes on the first try, well he would be making me very happy (-which is, after all, what's most important to ME), and he could probably drag out his personal satisfaction for a lot longer.
Hell, just think of all the members that love the BD ROM but refuse to use it because he's a douche. If it got touched up with some more bells & whistles and was rebranded Cyanogen, they'd all scurry to install it!
 
How many features is too much though?

There's absolutely nothing that UD10 does that CM doesn't. After all, it is just CM5 themed, with 3rd party apps installed as system apps.

So, while that's great for the people who want all those 3rd party apps, what about those who don't. What about those who want a different app than the one BD chose? Then they have to go through the trouble of removing his choice from /system and installing their own, blah blah blah.

I think this is the reason other developers don't make roms that are as "feature packed", because all those "features" are readily available for any ROM, and including them can also limit some users' own customization.
 
Look at all the forums they start. ipadforums.net is one example. They are just in this for money, they do not care about Android or any of it's users what so ever.

So far, though has anyone else noticed that there are no new posts in BD's section for the last 3 1/2 hours?
