Root Uninstallable Preloaded Apps List

Es should have the ability to toggle r/o and r/w I think it will work. the one you have com.android.mms.apk is not the one you want. I will put the one you need in a zip just unzip and copy it too /system/app

Thanks so much btw!!! Took a few tries but I was able to install it and everything is working fine! :)

thanks ... internal memory is tight and every bit helps. Had a couple questions on deleting other files besides apps. first, if I'mm using zedge for all my ringtones can i delete all the ringtones, notifications and alarms without any side effects? i'm using a custom boot animation. when i looked in system/media/ there are 2 other files, bootani.qmg and samsungani.qmg. are these needed? last of all , can i delete live wallpapers if so (ok last one for real)ARE LiveWallpapers.apk and LiveWallpapersPicker.apk the only files I delete to do so. I doubt any of this will free up alot of space but I figure it couldn't hurt. Maybe

You can delete those, I dont because they are small, but like you said it wont hurt.

I do not believe the live wallpaper would be a problem. I have not tried it though. Those 2 files you mention should be all you need.
After doing all those delete the davlik-cache and reboot it will take longer to boot up as it rebuilds the needed cache but it will save you space on cache it isnt using anymore.

i have a quick question for any body who can answer can i get rid of the amazon app store?

thank you in advance

so from what i gather, shabbymod and shabby leaf will indicate this as a general list

Safe Apps to Remove - SDX-Developers

however it seems to be talking about another phone/stock so i think it is useful for the ones that match our prevail stock list, but i'd like to see one more like this thread just specifically focused on prevail users

maybe we could even start a new spreadsheet with a complete list for the prevail stock? also i wonder if it makes a difference which rom you are using??

we should also expand the list to indicate which ones can be safely removed with titanium and/or converted to user app, sent to sd card, etc.. vs just using the leaf removal, vs using the stock application mover/uninstaller and whether or not app2sd is even relevant anymore??

also i wonder if link2sd will be a contender in this, i haven't tried it yet

Sorry if I missed this, but can I uninstall Gmail? I use the email client that came with it to sync both my gmail and yahoo accounts, so I don't really want the Gmail app.

Nevermind, found it in the list. I'm wanting to get rid of my contacts stock app too. The Go contacts one is much better. Any thoughts?

Keep in mind that if you ever plan on using Terminal Emulator , you will need to keep your stock dialer . Go Dialer will not work with it . :D

Be careful. Not sure about this. If you do not use Google contacts or calendar and do not care to use this as a method of syncing your phone when you reset, it might be OK. I would not delete the stock dialer like WetBiker said.

I find it very handy to sync from Google, but be sure you have your bases covered before you delete this stuff.

I decided it isn't worth the potential problems it could cause. The main reason I wanted to use Go Contacts was cause I could make groups, but I found an app that lets me do that too.

Does anyone know where i can download the default/stock TELENAV apk that came with the prevail? I accidentally deleted it and the one on the market is a little different.

For now I uninstalled the following. (moving slowly looking for
anomalies).

1. I used TitaniumBackup to uninstall.
2. I removed HookT 1.0 / Twidroyd 5.0.4. and SCVNGR 3.5.7
3. No side effects at all.
4. Unknown space saved.
5. Phone is stable.

Hold tight , I think Shabby put it on the new ShabbyMod . Wait til the bugs are worked out then give it a go . :D

EDIT: I do believe this is what you are looking for .

TeleNav GPS Navigator | AppBrain Android Market

Yes, wetbiker, that is the app. I've downloaded it, but i've notice the icon is different from the original and also, when i used to play music while driving and use the app original would stop the music while the "navigation lady" speaks and the downloaded version would speak as the music was playing.

i dont know if im the only one thats annoyed by this, but how can you get rid of the Google talk authentication notifications constantly popping up, I dont use it and i have no clue where to go to change the setting, i have an active gmail account so i dont understand why is it alerting me for google talk, which i dont use???

it works with stock messenger. u need to have both installed

This may already be posted, but this is apparently the proper place:

I use Handcent for SMS/MMS. I found out the hard way not to remove the MMS.apk file, the stock text messaging program. You will not get any obvious problems and regular text messages will still work. But you will not get any Multimedia Pictures, Video, Music, etc. If you are signed up for Boost Media Mail, you will see them there only.
If you do delete it, put it back in the /system/apps directory using Root Explorer or something similar. Then reboot your Prevail. Any new MMS will then start going to both Boost Media Mail and your phone.

I hope this helps some other dummy like me.

if you need stock mms dl shabbymod and check /path where u unzip to/ rom/apps

I delete the default browser regularly, with one minor issue. When an app tries to access the default browser, for instance, to sync bookmarks, that app may FC

I don't like the stock browser (I need forward and back buttons),when I install another browser it tries to import bookmarks from the android default (which isn't there) and force closes. Its possible that bookmark Widgets will do the same. Its a minor thing fir me because when the new browser asks if I want to import the bookmarks, I either cancel or click no. Also removed both voice dialer and voice search with no issues to report. Actually, I've uninstalled everything on the list in the first post, with no issues.

I have a question about an apk. The system update apk, is that the actual radio update or is it the app that allows you to update the phone via the carrier?

Thanks in advance!

I just want to get rid of some of the pre installed apps that came with this phone I tried everything but they're still there. I had tried to busy box, busybox installer, I have also tried titanium backup, root checker, and super user. I have tried the apps together and I tried them separately. please help. thanks
