Root Uninstallable Preloaded Apps List

I don't use ThinkFree so I can't answer the question about modifying docs . I can answer the questions about what you need to do w/ the app itself . If you have Titanium Backup , go in to it and wipe the data then uninstall , reboot , then re-install . Give that a try and see what ya get . ;)

No , you can uninstall it too . :D

If you use Handcent or another Msg app . you can uninstall the stock one also . If you have two apps that pretty much do the same thing like calenders and such , you can uninstall the stock ones. Just make sure that you make a backup before uninstalling anything just in case you need to get it back .
 
I think I understand the confusion on the Google Maps Thing. All of those others listed: Latitude, Places and Navigation. are part of the Maps package. On stock, they are system apps, so do not show up on the standard User Applications List.

Use a Root Utility Like Titanium Backup and uninstall Maps. This will also uninstall Latitude, Places, and Navigation.

But not Telanav. Not LAYR. Those are on their own. Also Street View if you have that, even though it integrates with Maps. You can uninstall those too, separately.

I wish you could uninstall Maps and the rest and just leave Navigation. But, I guess Telanav is just as good.

I don't remember having any special problems uninstalling ThinkFree. Just use Titanium.

Thank you for that information, it really helps. Just to clarify from my initial post: Is there a way I can reduce ThinkFree or do I just have to uninstall it if I don't want something that large? Is ThinkFree Office necessary to have if you access or modify Google Docs?

I don't know. Never explored what it did. I used to use a lot of excel spread sheets, but I used documents to go. I always assumed ThinkFree was a big advertisement for something bigger that cost a lot of money.

Never heard about anybody actually using it.

I may be wrong but I know they charge $10 or so for this, but I think this might just allow you to read the documents, not edit them or something else deceptive like that.

Sounds like a good job for Google.
 
Safely uninstalled:
Hookt, Layar, SCVNGR, Telenav GPS, Poynt, Messaging
using Titanium Pro, all with no drawbacks.

I uninstalled YouTube app and since haven't been able to watch any YouTube video's or videos on Facebook. It says video cannot load. Any suggestions?
 
so can i uninstall all the maps, latitude, places, and nav along with the layar, telenav safely then installl another gps app like google maps and it will work good along with the other apps on my phone?
 
Maps IS GoogleMaps . You can uninstall and re-install if you wanna . It will be the same thing . Keep in mind that certain apps come with Maps and are needed for it to function . Latitude , Navigation , etc .... Be aware that if you remove these and re-install GoogleMaps , these programs will re-install also .
 
I uninstalled Thinkfree Office about six months ago. But about a week ago Samsung released a "bug fix update" that fails to complete because as part of its batch operation it attempts to apply a patch to TFO, fails to find it, and breaks out of the batch to a menu where i can choose to either reboot the phone (which results in me getting another notification of the patch a few hours or days later), perform a factory reset (which does not replace TFO, so not truly a factory reset i guess), attempt to repeat the TFO update (which simply fails and loops me back to this point again), or, IIRC, to drop out to a shell maybe, but it might not do any good to do that without a keyboard to type with. So sort of bad I guess to have uninstalled it. Anyone have the .apk of either the original one, or the one that came with the Gingerbread update?

can I remove the dialer ? wanting to turn my old prevail into a minitablet for my grandniece, its the perfect size for her hands. dont want her accidently calling 911.
now i know some peeps will say get her a 7 inch tab but for a 6 yr old its too big.
plan is to active on boost , grab some games from the market then let the service die. come on guys and girls help me become the Uber uncle.

Sure. I Don't see why you can't remove the dialer. Just use titanium backup and go in and remove the dialer. Make sure that you back it up first In case you ever want to restore it.

Also you do not even need to activate the phone. You can just download the games via Wi-Fi from the market. My prevail is not activated and I access the Internet via Wi-Fi and also access the market all the time.

Just wanted to add, once you get it set up, consider running it in airplane mode. This will disable the 3g radio and vastly improve battery life.
 
Hey wetbiker, can you give me a bit more info on this app and wht it does ? I mean, wouldn't "Airplane mode" do the same ? And can I still use GrooveIP with it via WiFi ?
