Root Unique sd and internal storage issues

dville1

Lurker
I have read a lot of forums on this topic. I wanted to root and get cm10 and join this android community, but unfortunately I went wrong somewhere. I used CMW and got CM10 working, but for some reason, it does not recognize my sd card. I tried clearing it out, formatting through recovery, and all that did was cause me to lose all my data. I did the work around with having s-on, but can't see how that can be an issue. I can't access my ext or internal storage at all, not even through my pc, I have no aps and no ability to download apps due to google market not being install. If this has already been answered, please send me the link, because I searched most forums and none of the solutions posted has worked for me.

For some roms mainly cm series and it's builds, the dev has a separate download named "gapps" which is Google apps packages.

Which causes the rom to completely function as it should.

Check the cm10 thread and look for the gapps download.

Not a problem at all.

Gapps is Google proprietary apps? Go figure never knew exact name of it. I just call it Google apps packages because it sounds good :p

It is unmounted and simply wont mount, not even in recovery mode, I tried a different usb but it wont connect to pc, it shows that it is connected on the pc, but I can't access the external or internal storage. I can't download anything on it due to the memory issue.

The only thing I can do now in terms of internal or external memory would have to be in fastboot, because even with cm10 running I can't access my internal or external memory though pc.

I didn't know CWM was fixed. Last I heard it was messing with the misc partition. Think that might be the issue?

Might not be a bad idea to get switched over to TWRP recovery via goomanager, and try a reflash.

I'm on da phone, give me a minute to see if I can get some info on CWM and TWRP / goomanager links. :)

Here is the TWRP site.
TeamWin Projects - TWRP 2.2 | TeamWin
And Goomanager
Goo.im Downloads - Browsing goomanager

Although, he'll probably need just the TWRP site since he can only fastboot

I will give it a try sometime today, for some reason the driver works on cm10 but not in fastboot. The computer in the library does not allow the installing of drivers since I do not have administrator access. Thank you again, hopefully this helps.

Yeah, I checked on CWM, its been abandoned. You'll need to get switched over to TWRP.

Follow the links null posted above, if you have any questions or you get stuck post back. We'll get you rolling. :)

I managed to get twrp, but still the same issues, even twrp refuses to mount internal or external storage. I even partitioned SD, reflashed and still nothing.

I am definitely not an authority on this issue but it has me thinking and wondering.

have you looked at your external sd card in a card reader on your pc? can you see it and put roms and such on it from there? can you have twrp mount it then and flash a rom from there?

twrp does have settings to look at the different sd cards.

then, the terminology is confusing to me too. are you talking about the internal sd card, the memory partition in the phone it calls an sd card, or the actual added on sd card?

there was some sort of fix for the OG evo when sd card wouldn't mount. I can't find my link to it to tell what it was even about to see if it would apply in any way though.

a final thought i am having, is using an ruu to try to put your phone back to a working state. i have never done that either, and am not familiar with all of the implications and ramifications of it, so check with those more knowledgeable, but I am thinking that it works from your pc and might then be able to act upon your phone in spite of not being able to get to the sd cards ways we usually do.

Please let us know what you end up doing. do check with those in here if you decide to try the ruu thing, I don't want to complicate your issue. Just throwing it out there for consideration. good luck!

I'm having the same issue with my sd card but I can do it in TW RP and it shows up fine on the computer. so when I'm running my CM 10 it does not show up at al lon the computer or the ROM. I have tried to format the SD card however it still does not show in the ROM. PLEAAE HELP!

CM10 mounts the internal storage instead of the external sd card. There is a zip you can flash on XDA somewhere that switches the storage places. So then your external sd card will mount when you click "turn on USB storage."

If you're missing something, check both sd cards. The way they switch where files are put really messed me up at first.
