Unlocked Bootloader - I think so!!

So now that this non-issue is officially a non-issue, the real question is what will people whine about now?

I bet it's the fact that the E3D was announced 7 months and has no release date...it has been that long right?

The list:

Don't forget that after the release gossip comes this list:

  1. Resurgence in price gossip
  2. Resurgence in supply gossip
  3. Where-is-it-on-sale-for-cheaper gossip
  4. How-long-will-it-stay-at-this-price gossip
  5. Why-is-it-failing-I-heard-it-is-failing gossip
  6. Sense-3-Won't-Work-With-Ice-Cream-Sandwich gossip
  7. Sprint-will-raise-my-monthly-for-this-phone gossip
  8. Sprint-is-going-out-of-business-this-phone-won't-help gossip
  9. Sprint-will-really-be-bought-by-Verizon-now-this-phone-won't-work gossip
  10. Anyone-counting-on-WiMAX-are-suckers-here's-inside-info gossip
  11. Sprint-is-really-finally-going-to-get-the-iPhone-now gossip
  12. And don't forget the big one: I-heard-they-held-back-to-sucker-us-in gossip

This is actually the Official Gossip List, as approved by the International Gossip Directorate, Unhappiness Subgroup, and it's impossible to actually breathe, must less function, with this chatter.

:D lma0 ;)

Wow, HTC. That's awesome Customer Service there. This action alone has me reconsidering buying an HTC product over a Samsung. I could always use LauncherPro to hide the Sense Launcher :p

Or drop in a Senseless rom with ease, as soon as available.

From the HTC facebook:
‎"There has been overwhelmingly customer feedback that people want access to open bootloaders on HTC phones. I want you to know that we've listened. Today, I'm confirming we will no longer be locking the bootloaders on our devices. Thanks for your passion, support and patience," Peter Chou, CEO of HTC

Wow, simply stunning! Who would have thought they'd turn around like that! It's better than Moto's move, for sure. Excellent decision, HTC!

Speaking of Motorola, something tells me it's their turn to make a very important decision about THEIR bootloader policy.

Ha Ha Ha... So true! Isn't it funny how sometimes it takes one company doing the right thing and the rest follow suit? Lets hope...

I gotta go back in and see if I can live with the qHD-LCD over the SA+ screens. This decision has _really_ impressed me. What great customer service!

2 months, to the best of my knowledge.

7 months was the Thunderbolt, from first leaked pics (August) to release date (March).

viber was being sarcastic with the '7 months' bit, FYI :)

Aye, but I figured an honest answer couldn't hurt things and it might throw some perspective to the situation.

Truthfully, the T-bolt was a phone I was waiting on in that time frame. The unlocking has put the E3D back on my radar, if the release date doesn't stray into the 4+ month range.

What GREAT news. Hopefully this gets followed through on. Thanks HTC!

I'm not trying to rain on the parade here and admittedly I don't know entirely how these things work, but what is to stop Sprint from locking down our phones in some fashion? What if HTC is making good but passing the buck off to Sprint so they can take the customer relations hit? Ultimately Sprint is the one delivering the software in the long term right?

Can we get Sprint to make the same commitment?
What about Verizon//T-Mobile/AT&T(hahahahahaha)?

I think Sprint would really hurt relations with HTC if they did that. The consumer may not know who really was responsible. All they know is that HTC promised freedom, and they didn't get it. That hurts HTC in the eyes of the consumer. HTC may decide not to continue business with Sprint.

That may be drastic. I don't think it will happen. But it would be interesting to know if HTC consulted Sprint et. al. while they were making this decision...

This is awesome news. I was highly upset at the news about the locked BL in their current /upcoming devices.
Motorola, are you taking hits? You should be. ;)

Big props to HTC for revoking their locked bootloader policy.

I don't have an INC2 yet, but hopefully they'll be able to send out an OTA that will make rooting easier!

With HTC's new stance, and Sony's willingness to unlock their phones and release timely updates, I'm hoping other companies like Motorola follow.

I was considering just waiting for the next Nexus device, but if this phone releases by June/July, I don't think I'll be able to wait.

It's great that HTC acted so swiftly and decisively. I imagine if any carriers such as Verizon or AT&T threaten to not carry HTC phones because of their stance, HTC can easily make a public statement on how carriers are attempting to take choices away from the consumer.

Which carrier would want to risk that kind of horrible pr? Not to mention losing a very important manufacturer which helps generates millions in dollars of business for them?

I could almost cry manly tears of joy right now...

I just saw on their Facebook page where they are going to start leaving their bootloader unlocked. HTC "There has been overwhelmingly customer feedback that people want access to open bootloaders on HTC phones. I want you to know that we've listened.
