Unlocked Bootloader - I think so!!

Thats awasome!!! After emailing all the top guns at HTC a few days ago, I wake up to this email from Peter Chou at HTC:

Dear Greg,

Thank you for your support to htc. We hear your concern. And we take it seriously and now we will unlock it.
Our original intent was to reduce the potential quality problem when user upgrade their phone.
Any way we will unlock it. Customer satisfaction is very important for us and we want you have a good experience when you deal with htc.
Thanks again for your support.

Best Regards.

Peter

Made my day and then some!!!

They're highly rated but expensive for what they are. Having said that, I've not had to worry about it since I've put it on so it was a good investment IMO

Are we talking about a screen protector or a case?

I've been using a very cheap screen protector I got off ebay since August, up until about 2 months ago. Since then, I've just been using it without. Since week 2, I've been using a cheap gel case (also

So...the official reason for locking the bootloaders are to make sure when upgrading, they know exactly what they're upgrading over? Heh, this has always been a problem that the Android community has helped their own with. So long as the person with the problem would post about it in forums and not trying to return it under warranty as a 'brick'.

Wow, I wonder if everyone had done the same thing over the kickstand a long time ago if they could have figured out a way of intergrating one! Regardless, good job to all those who made their voices or emails rather heard...:o

The Desire's bootloader is locked so this doesn't work. The sensation etc are locked and encrypted. As we know the desire still needs exploits to be used to unlock it so it really does depend what terminology HTC are using. Whether its actual terminology or whether their policy is to stop encrypting so we can do what we have on the desire, just using a universally understandable term of "unlocked"...

We;ll need to see it to be certain
I thought the Sensation (or the other newest HTC phones) bootloader is only locked, but not encrypted? The lock system is newer, nearly impossible to crack, but possible to unlock only by some sort of exploit.

As far as I know, only Moto encrypts the bootloaders, so an exploit to unlock it will still be useless, because the encryption keys can't be retrieved.

I'm guessing HTC are taking everything off to allow the Dev community to continue to support HTC handsets. Whether this extends to ALL HTC handsets or just Android I don't know

I thin the definitions are blurry and your post prompted me to search for the answer.

“encrypted bootloader” properly defined | Android Help

All that is left is for HTC to amend the rules of how you can use your phone so even when you root your phone it is still covered by insurance and warranty

A handful of people over on xda have received the same email from Peter Chou saying they will unlock the 3d.

Hey Moto, are you listening? The screech you keep hearing is the sound of former customers burning rubber to switch to HTC.
