Root Unlocked bootloader?

So is this an issue of principal at this point? If so I have no issue. I know we all talk about how much better we/developers could make our phone with an unlocked bootloader. However being on the GB leak and running Apex Alpha 2, my X seems to be the best piece of electronic equipment that I own. With over clocking and under volting we can help the battery life, I am easily getting 20 hours. I understand why this was a big issue when we were back on 2.1 because the phone was capable of so much more. A little to motorola's credit they actually have a real nice build with Gingerbread. I am not sure what more I would expect from my X at this point.

LG is also a great manufacturer. My last two phones before my Eris were a Chocolate and the Decoy. Both were great and really stood up to the wear and tear a teenager could put on them. The G2X looks to be a mighty awesome phone and already has a big following.

Hopefully some of my favorite Developers like Jrummy, Fabulous, Birdman, Kejar and the like will all pick the same phone so i can continue to use their ROMS.

Anybody else here like the G2X I fiddled around with one today felt really nice quadrant score was 2550 but I would expect it to be high
 
i wish verizon would get a high powered LG device, i really do!

i know i have posted this alot but, if at&t doesnt buy t-mo im switching!
UNLESS
Moto unlocks the bootloaders on all devices, then i will stay with vzw and continue with my droid brand

Actually, party in response to other thread about stuff being moved around here, I see myself as not as your superior, but your waiter or maintenance worker... taking care of what you all need fixed around here. :)

Yes indeed! I jumped to T-Mobile and the G2x last week to protest both Motorola and Verizon's stance on closing Android. I give credit where credit is due, so I'll admit to hitting a few dead area's around here using T-Mobiles service where my DX on Verizon just about ALWAYS had a signal no matter where I went. But it's not so bad that I'm regretting the switch at all, just thought I'd come clean so as not to look like a T-Mo fanboy or anything.

Beyond that I have to say that if freedom is what you seek, go with T-Mobile and one of their unlocked devices (they have plenty of HTC, Samsung and LG devices that are for all intents and purposes 'dev' devices), so long as you can get decent service in your area. I'm loving this LG device. I had it rooted within 24 hours. Haven't seen a quadrant score below 2100. And am loving the fluid movement between screens. vanilla Google ROCKS!!!

As great as the G2x is though, I must say I miss the character of my DX. It has a presence that's hard to explain. I mean these are both well made devices (I was soooo happy to discover that LG also uses Gorilla Glass for their screens), but no matter how much I am loving my G2x, when ever I pick up my DX again (I'm keeping it around for my full time GPS unit and MP3 player in my car), I miss it. Maybe it's just because it's familiar, I dunno. I just really like the DX.

But you can't beat the combination of T-Mobile and LG... this baby is WIDE OPEN!!! :D
 
im very close to jumping ship, however im going to wait for my contract that and to see if moto will release an unlocked, relockable bootloader on a moto droid phone soon!
and im hoping at&t doesnt acquire t-mo cause then i will stay with verizon. and if moto still locks the phones up, i will be going with samsung or HTC, or HOPEFULLY A GOOD LG phone on verizon. if they ever get a good LG phone

Other than that, the only real reason I still want root is to enable AutoKill. Other than that, my fiddling with roms has decreased since GingerBlur. Gotta say, it's superior.

Gingerbread is a super platform. Right now, I'm running Liberty Gingerbread v.4 but it hasn't decreased my desire to tinker with the rom or the various themes. It becomes an *obsession* after awhile. ::shrug:: I think it reminds me of my early days with Windows NT, circa 1996. Those were fun times, as I learned (through Microsoft Forums) how to install and modify aspects of the NT 4.0 operating system.

There's that same kind of Energy or maybe Excitement, that goes with the tinkering of android phones. Verisimilitude is the word, as I'm now hanging out in android based forums, learning to modify the way these phones look and behave. "Just like before - it's yesterday once more". Life is good! :)

Here's something to think about... AT&T has already promised any T-Mobile customer that if/when they take over T-Mobile, they will be grandfathered into their pricing plan for the length of their contract. So for all intents and purposes, if you sign up for T-Mobile like I just did, you will be getting T-Mobiles rates and service for your entire contract period.

Too bad you can't sign a 5 year deal!

So if worse comes to worse, you enjoy T-Mobiles rates (I'm paying $79 bucks for unlimited minutes, unlimited text and unlimited data... 4g data at that) for two years, then flop back over to Verizon if you want to. Any device that you buy now on T-Mobile should work for the entire 2 years you're contracted as well. Because even if AT&T does aquire T-Mobile, they'll also be aquiring their towers. And they won't be switching them over to the AT&T frequencies for at least two years after the merger were to go through.

So your bases are all pretty much covered.
