Root [UPDATED 28/12 - NEW INSTALLER] CyanogenMod 7/Android 2.3.4 Is avaliable for GT540!

Hehe, we got 3 updates in 4 days!! Though small but almost every bug is being eliminated. Hats off Mur4ik.
Am I dreaming or is this ROM really gonna be ported to kernel 32 or 35? If this happens then I'm the among the luckiest people to have this phone.

Also dudeman, can you add this link to the first post and your blog
LG GT540 Official Cyanogenmod Support Petition
I found it XDA. It's petition claiming Official Support for our ROM from the CyanogenMod community. Please spread the word.

Also I appreciate your work too, like making EXE for simple installation and your own app for the updates. You're making it easy for all of us.

Yepp, means there's progress being made! :D What's so good about kernel 32 or 35?

Sure, I'll add that. Saw it today and signed it, would be brilliant to get others to sign it too :)

It's cool, I do what I can to help others update smoothly cause I know what it's like to brick your phone...

The new 1.8 and the 1.7 didn't work as expected, to me.

They were to say the least, Unstable, everything on the phone crashed, every app i installed, crashed, even the ones from the market, i might be going back to 1.5 and just change the accelerometer files with the newer ones.

Hmm, that's weird, everything works perfectly on my phone.. How did you update? Via fastboot or recovery?

via fastboot, i reflashed 1.8 again, the initial setup, when adding the google account crashed, but installing apps now works, seems like it's running fine now.

I tried to install the 1.8 update but it says 'Installation Aborted"

Edit: Never mind. I downloaded the wrong file.

What's the difference between 1.8 and 1.6?

Alright guys, when I push the mediafire download for the 1.8 zip it takes me to multiupload for the exe file. If I push the multiupload for the zip file, it shows the file I want to download but every button on the page is for some ad ware program. What's the trick?

Nevermind, this time when I pushed the direct download button it actually downloaded the zip file.

Check for the changelogs ,many bug fixes, increased performance , i don't know yet, about the battery life, and added features.

If you're on CM6 you can't update to CM7 via recovery, you gotta use fastboot. To keep your data you can do this:

1. Use recovery to make a backup, then update to 2.3 and restore just the data from the backup. Note: I'm not sure if this works, I'd imagine it would, I think this is the method I used to keep all my data.

2. Backup everything including apps, settings etc. using MyBackup Root from the Market. Then update to CM7 and restore the backup.

You should backup using both methods before updating to 2.3 because that way you will definitely not loose your data. The easiest way to keep everything is step 1, step 2 should be used if step 1 doesn't work.

You said that the phone gets stuck at the CyanogenMod logo screen, the first boot takes 2-3x longer than a normal boot, for me, when I update the first boot takes about 5-8 minutes with the CyanogenMod logo spinning for a while before anything happens. So just wait and it should be fine.

dude, finally managed to update to 2.3 thanks alot!...anyway, i notice one thing when i hold the power button to shut down why is there a "change profile"?what is that for and how can i change that into english coz it's in russian :))

edit:

dude, when i restored my backup in recovery it restored back to 2.2...aww crap...does this mean that i have to reinstall everything???

What's so good about kernel 32 or 35?
The newer kernel has better compatibility for Gingerbread. Also it has better battery life and performance than our 2.6.29 kernel. Quarx and Wingmire are working on it. Check it here.

Also, something's cooking on XDA. The developers are planning to port the MIUI ROM for our phone soon. Not exactly sure but I read it here.

Also the AOSP Gingerbread 2.3.1 by Joestone is in its Alpha stage. When I tried it, I felt that it has better battery life ( almost 2 days with 50% battery left ) and performance a bit better than CyanogenMod. :D

Also there are possibilities of having dual touch on our phone, check this video:

OK, you guys on here are fantastic. After my little hiccup yesterday, I bit the bullet and installed 1.8 on my phone, with no problems whatsoever. So thank you for all your help. One thing though, I have noticed on all the videos of Android 2.3, that the phones have different animations for things like scrolling etc than the basic setting. Can anyone tell me how to activate these new settings or do I need to download an app for them. Any help will be very appreciated.
Many thanks
Ian

If you want Scrolling Effects, check Settings --> CyanogenMod settings -->Interface.
I hope it helps

Hiya Teja,
I had a look there earlier, but can only find general settings, such as render effect and power prompt etc and the overscrolling menu.

Ah no, when you restore the backup you need to press 'advanced restore' then you select 'restore data', if you restore the whole backup you'll get 2.2 back..

Go to Settings>Language & keyboard (the one with the A in a square)>change language (first option)>English>Reboot everything should be in English now. If the apps aren't just give it some time and it will change :)

Ah I see, the battery life would be soo good for me, my battery dies way too quickly, I think it's because the battery is degrading, not because of the ROM (well partially the ROM). I've had it since August last year :p

Yeah I saw that yesterday too, what's the MIUI ROM all about?

2.3.1, a bit outdated, and I prefer the customization of CM. Not sure what impact it'd have on my battery life. Also there are quite a few things missing.. but I guess that'll be sorted with time

This confuses me a bit because multitouch isn't fully down to the software. Multitouch is limited to capacitive touch screens (the screen the Nexus S or iPhone has, it's very sensitive, you use a light touch to make it work) the GT540 has a resistive touch screen (the screen goes in when you press it and you need more force to make it work). As far as I know, multitouch is limited to only capacitive touch screens, so it'll be interesting to see how this works. Of course it'd be brilliant if it did :D

I am having a problem with the v1.8 update. I followed the instructions on page 1 but after the reboot it looks like I lost all my apps, etc. I get a green droid image with the text "Welcome to GT540, touch the android to begin". There is an animated white hand to show me where to press. I press the droid, then get the "set up your google account" screen. I choose "already have a google account" sign in tab, then the message "Slide keyboard open to continue" appears.

I do not like the look of this. Please help.

I dont think its possible to have multitouch on the gt540, I believe the're looking to do dualtouch which is different.

The Joestone ROM looks nice but is very slow on the development front as the guy does it in his spare time, and at present a lot of it still does not work, ie SD card mounting, which is not good for me.

The bad battery life on the Mur4ik's ROM I think is more down to the extras CM7 puts in than the ROM itself. It should get a lot better when the new kernels are done.

Yup I got that. I happened to me when ever i tried to add my google account. You still have access to your phone ect by pressing the home button. If I remember rightly it happened after I removed the ticked boxes for google to have anon access to my user data, by re-adding the tick i could register. Also check there is a keyboard selected as in this ROM there are 2 to choose from.

Hmm, my home buttone does not do anythng short press or long press). I have 2 additional options beneath the green droid - "emergency call" on the bottom left and "change language" on the bottom right.

Luckily this time I made a backup. I hope I do not need it.

edit: The phone works ok!! YAY. I pressed the green android, then the option to set up the google account later (something like that) Then my own home screen appeared.

download and copy this file to your sd card:
gapps-mdpi-20110301-signed.zip - 4shared.com - online file sharing and storage - download

reboot into recovery. Select install zip from sd card --> choose zip from sd card. Now select the zip file you just downloaded to the sd card. It will install all the google apps.

thanks man!

edit:

dude, there seems to be a problem. After i installed it when i reboot the phone it keeps getting stuck on the cyanogenmod screen...any more suggestions??

Ah yes, this happened to me too, you haven't lost anything as long as you updated via recovery. Just press the home button to get past that screen and it'll be fine.
