us galaxy s3 will get no key lime pie

Well, the international ready got its 4.2 build, although still a leaked one. The US variant might get later, but probably it will. I'm not sure about 4.3, though.

i think its pretty stupid how samsung lacks support on features ffor US s3 its pretty dum all cause lte not wanting to play right with the quad core back then=/

Its like complaining that your old 486 PC doesn't run Windows 8.

Software moves on, hardware moves on, credit card bills move on .. Circle of life lol

Aha! So THAT'S why my Commodore 64 won't run Windows 7 Professional!

Seriously tho, I can foresee a few Devs being able to at least port over a few features from klp to work on JB... maybe.
Perhaps.

Possibly.

Hopefully.

It's all business my friend imagine if they will always update the phone all the time they will loose money either way I'm happy to know we will get 4.2.2 by then we will rock metropolis 2.0 :D

I'm still waiting for 4.1.2 on my T-Mobile S3... :(

i think its dum tho but true bout metropolis lol;)

In my opinion, a device should be fully supported firmware-wise until it stops being officialy sold!
I know a lot of people disagree with that though lol :)
i suppose it depends on the consumer.... would YOU rather pay say $100 extra for a device for it to be officialy firmware updated for say 2yrs? Most people on here would probably say YES but then, we arent the average person lol... average person Eats desserts ;)

It's probably more money "wasted" for the manufacturer to support a phone people already bought, which therefore makes no profit whatsoever in that sense. Still, Samsung did a good job with the international S3, we had 4.0, 4.1, 4.1.2, and now we've got 4.2 leaks. I have a feeling we'll also get 4.3. So yeah, I think this is a good update record for Samsung.

I think updates largely depend on the user base. The more users on the same phone, the more worthwhile the investment of time / manpower to provide updates. This is probably overlooked somewhat when people choose their phones, (manufacturer support) but users of a popular, well supported phone, will most likely show more loyalty to the same manufacturer and buy their next phone from them, so in short, good support/updates, 'help' (to some degree) bring in new customers, and with them, money/personal opinion (customers) /recommendations / publicity/popularity (even if just by word of mouth) so providing such updates & customer support and be a huge benifit.

Just look how quickly things went pear shaped for Northan Rock (UK Bank) several years ago.

Why would someone trade in the s3 for the s4?

Serious question too ;)

My reasons :)

Bigger better display in slightly smaller footprint.

About twice as fast, so more smooth playing games with MAME.

HDMI apparently works when using LTE. It does not with the US S3. Wi-Fi only.

Though not a given, hoping the radio chipset works better with 3g and low signal in general.

Added

A vague hope the 64gb version is offered, but doubt it.

That is about it, since the S3 rocks.

Sony are pretty good with their updates too. Im a very loyal person but not a sheep so stuff like that makes a big difference when im choosing a product :)

We might not get the fastest cpu in our variant but sure as he'll get more ram than our European neighbors and our roms/mods support are second to none. I think they just finally managed to add more support for the s3 that use the exynos cpu. So bottom line both variants have their pros and cons but I believe us variants have the best pros as far as we can see.

Well at least they update :), I don't live in America but I hope this won't happen.
The phone is only a year old and it can handle everything great, don't see why they wouldn't update it

Unless your phone is working bad with the software you have, that's the reason why I'm switching to another phone.

i totally agree with this idea but true true its supid how they limit phones =/ i mean the s2 went from 2.3 to 4.1.2 and now 4.2 and the s3 only seems to like its only gonna make it to 4.2 from 4.0.4:(

There's no evidence to support that we won't get the next iteration of android

It has been speculated not that long ago, that the S3 will get Key Lime Pie (Android 5 not 4.2 as mentioned, thats still Jelly Bean)

On Android Phone there was an article claiming to have data relating to the note 2, S3, S4 all getting KLP from Q3 onwards this year, and the likes of the S2 getting 4.2.2 which, would in effect, complete near enough two years of firmware support for the S2 as funky was saying.

Yeah i really dont see KYP bein limited to 4core CPUs.. i think if anythin stops the US s3s from gettin it itl be the carriers tbh

Yup. Just one little blog posts an unsubstantiated rumour, and

Is this the right place to ask what people are hoping for in KLP?
JB was bit of a disappointment for me tbh. I was lookin forward to project butter and google now. Project butter isnt really noticable on the s3 because its already smooth and google now doesnt fully work in my country.
One thing id like (not for my sake, i root anyway) is a universal non-root way to completely back up a phone :)
does 4.2 have user accounts for a phone? If not, thatd be a nice thing for KLP

Well, 4.2 has user accounts only if running on tablets (which I use on my Nexus 7, it's a brilliant idea). Stock phone will not have the feature, unless you flash mods/custom roms.

Anyway, I'm pretty sure there won't be Android 5.0 any soon, it's gonna be 4.3.

4.2 does have user accounts. On stock phones it may not be in there but I don't see much use for it in a phone tbh

Project butter is very noticeable if you flash a pre jb ROM. You'll be surprised how much you miss it ;)

Yeah i suppose if i could switch butter on/off id really notice it. I just remember seeing before and after vids of the gnex and it was amazing :)
I pretty much use my phone in the way id use a tablet if i had one. I dont use the laptop at all lately. I do all my computing and entertainment needs on my s3. If i had kids, itd be nice for them to have their own login :)

Yeah i cant imagine KLP bein a huge update so 4.3 would probably be more apt :)

There is no 4.3 ;) it's 4.2.2 (JB) - 5.0 (KLP)
