Verizon Pre-order, Release date, and speculation thread

Oops, looks like sprint is now shipping 32 gigabyte orders, so okay to be peeved I guess....

I'm sure Verizon got more preorders than Sprint. Guess Verizon doesn't want to upset customers by shipping only what they have on hand and telling everyone else, sorry you have to wait. Still blows like the wind thou!

The swelling on mine is getting worse. Now when it's 100% it creates a spot when I touch the screen. This stops when the battery gets to less than 70%. I've got a couple of aftermarket cheapos, but they don't send the battery info to the phone. I guess I'm gonna have to switch to those for the next two weeks. Argh!

I took my phone apart before realizing it was the battery swollen that created a wet look on the screen. I thought moisture had built up or something. Man, my battery was FAT though, and it was at like 40%! Ordered a cheapo replacement OEM from eBay as backup. I don't want it to explode and ruin my DX.

So, in 2 weeks, I should have a tracking number, everyone else should have their phones. :)

Forgive my ignorance, but I'm new to all this pre-order stuff. I usually just walk into the store when I'm eligible for an upgrade and pick one. I only found the GS3 because I was due for an upgrade and was doing some research and through dumb luck found this phone. It was love at first look and I had to have it.

So what I don't understand is where did 9 million pre-orders go. I assume those were all carrier pre-orders. How many carriers are there worldwide and how many did each one get? I guess what I'm trying to ascertain is how did people in the US even know about this phone to pre-order it. It hasn't been advertised at all on TV that I've seen. It's not in the stores.

And one more stupid question (be patient please, I'm just an old lady). If you pre-order a phone, don't you have to take it in to the store to have it activated? If so, I'm not seeing the people who did get theirs already talk about the jealous store reps who haven't even seen one yet.

Sorry for all the questions. I could have just posted by updated shipping info.:)

Most of the 9 million pre orders were overseas so I'm not sure what carriers got what. Most of us are phone geeks and live eat and breath the latest & greatest tech so we typicically know what's coming out before most carrier employees either by tech site's, phone testers, or forums like these.

When the Pre ordered phone arrives it will need it's 4G sim card inserted and it will activate automatically. :) No need to go to a store.

That makes sense. So we can assume that the 1 million additional preorders that will put them at 10 million are probably all US. That still seems like a lot for a phone no one knows about yet, but nowhere near enough for when we get bombarded with this thing during the Olympics.

And that's 'no need to go to a store' if you're a phone geek. I will still need to go. Even not being a phone geek, I thank everyone for this great site - it's been very helpful when I've had Fascinate questions.

The S2 was arguably considered to be the best Android handset on the market. Most here knew about the S3 6 months ago it was rumoured when we were all salivating to get our hands on the Nexus. So considering the S2 was such an awesome phone we could only imagine with the bump in specs how much better the S3 would be, so in a sense the S2 paved the way for the S3. Verizon passed on the S2 and let us all down then they came out with the Galaxy Nexus instead.

Samsung said component shortages have been resolved and it is running at full tilt to meet demand. "It is simply that demand far exceeded our expectation. But that doesn't mean we had set a very conservative demand forecast," Samsung said in an emailed statement to Reuters.

If that is correct everything is looking good :)

I hope so, if that is the case then Samsung is gonna make a killing off this in the US. It's already selling like bonkers over in the UK. They said that current component shortages will affect 2million shipments in April-June. Every delay that Samsung encounters will negatively affect sales against the iPhone 5. Any hiccup and a consumer may just choose to wait. They gotta ship these things out pronto.

I thought the pebble blue cases were difficult to produce and in the US, Qualcomm is running up against a shortage of the Snapdragon S4 processors- which basically powers everything Android.

what I keep fearing they will do.....

Now, I realize this topic has been discussed to death and I will probably star a riot with this thread, but I just can't shake this uneasy feeling about Verizon and the whole unlimited data/G3 pre-order thing....I've been struggling with it all month since they made the announcement and today I finally ordered my G3, but even after walking through the order process, I still don't trust Verizon at the end of the day (as I'm sure we all have our reasons not to). I've read the Droid-Life article where they claim they've spoke to "Verizon

If you're a VZW customer you have to get used to the fact that you're going to bent over and taken from behind all the time. Not much different than a prisoner really.

The second VZW takes away my unlimited data....I'm out like a fat kid in dodgeball.

After my two year contact is over with my galaxy s3 I have no more reason to stay with Verizon.

Congrats on your purchase! You are getting the best phone currently on the market. You can activate the phone with verizon either over the phone or online, no need to go to the store. I suggest using google services to backup your current contacts. The gmail, google voice, google talk are all amzing free services and sync very nicely with android.

The phone has been stealthily advertized on the internet, sites like youtube etc have been a big push for it.

Agree w/ most of your post, however the ship date has never been pushed back. Depending on what date you ordered is when your phone will be shipped. It has never been pushed back or delayed people who are saying this are just misinformed or want something to complain about.

I talked to a sales rep on the phone tonight and he said that any new phone activated after the 28th would require one of the new plans... even a preordered SG3.

I have pre ordered the sg3. I have a blackberry. Is there any easy free way to backup my stuff and contacts to transfer them to my new sg3?

When you activate a phone. That is all you do. The phone is already purchased and the plan selected. Unless they somehow change the entire activation system in two days, the rep is flat out wrong. I had multiple CSRs tell me the S3 would be eligible for Double Data and they were dead wrong.

Save your contacts to your google account and then they will transfer once you set up your gmail account on your android device.

You have to accept the new contact/terms and conditions prior to the 28th. After your preorder, they should have forwarded you to an automated system to accept the contact, penalties for ending your contact early etc. if they didn't call them back.
I think if you preordered online, accepting these terms is part of that process , but I ordered over the phone and recorded the call, so I'm covered.

I think you're onto something guys, because I think the real question to ask is, when does your contract actually start on upgrades? is it when you place the order online, or when you activate the phone, or like was mentioned, agree to the terms and what not.....

and I'm not sure I'd call myself "all set" just because Verizon told me the recorded the phone call you know? jus sayin :-)

If you preordered the phone online, then you needed to select your plan details when you checked out. At that time, it still should have shown the unlimited data plan. If you kept that selected, then you should be good to go when you activate the phone.

Personally, I captured screenshots of the entire checkout process showing my selection of the unlimited data plan, etc. So if they try to mess with me, I'll show them the screenshots and insist. If they still don't do it, I'll return the phone and everything will go back to the way it was.
