Verizon Pre-order, Release date, and speculation thread

1) Apple is a multi-billion dollar company, 96Mil isnt all that much to them

2) The 96Mil is held by the court until the end of the trial so Apple wont lose any money unless they lose to Samsung (the money is used to cover Samsung's losses should Samsung prevail)

Also, sales of the Nexus can continue until Apple puts up the 96Mil, which really, probably has already happened/will happen shortly since its not that much money to them.

Im not super worried about this case since Apple declined to amend their complaint to include the S III, therefore giving S III vendors at least a couple of months to sell the phone (since even after the lawsuit is filed, Apple needs to request an injunction against importation of the S III and court dates have long waits) so at the very least we should get our phones.

If Apple prevails in their case against the Nexus however, it will make it easier for them in their suit involving the S III, assuming they sue under the same patent and Samsung is using similar code.
I believe the following link is a separate filing of preliminary injunction against the GS3 and not an add-on to the Galaxy Nexus ban request...
Apple denied stateside Galaxy S III injunction -- Engadget

Frankly, the sale of the Galaxy Nexus is a small fraction of the Galaxy S II. And the Galaxy Tab 10.1 sale number is very disappointing as well (although I love my G-Tab 10.1). So I wonder it might merely be a "consolation prize" Judge Koh is giving Apple, since she has denied Apple request to have preliminary injunction on the GS3?

There is one more week to go. I hope no more bad news from Judge Koh's court to derail the GS3 release.

I'll be keeping tabs on the initial feedback of Sprint Folks. IF the radio, GPS, and battery come up as pluses in real life - I'll probably can my wait for the Fighter/HD - and go with the SIII.

Hmmm, maybe because this is the "Verizon Pre-order, Release date, and speculation thread" in the Galaxy S3 section? No mention of beer anywhere.

People look to this thread for relevant information, so please keep posts on topic. Mild cases of topic drift can be excused, but epidemics of derailitis require surgery. :)

p.s. for general off-topic chitchat The Lounge is the go-to place.

Just had a de'ja vu, and flashed back to the Incredible pre-order thread. Oooooh boy ....:D

The common bond is that beer was a beverage of survival for millenniums (the alcohol killed all the micro critters that could kill them). Plus was a source for trade and compensation, up through parts of the 19th century and beer is the bond for this thread in the 21st century. Drink it! Embrace it!

On an on topic note, I wonder when we will see the first actual demo and review of the VZW version? If extrapolating based on demos exist for all others as well as reviews and the gap of time with no VZW version, we may be in best case mode for July 12.

Added: July 12 may be a slow flow date.....

I find it quite puzzling that the Galaxy Nexus has caused Apple "irreparable harm" therefore banning it...yet the 96 million Apple has to pay to enforce the ban does not cause Apple irreparable harm...

For a company that has $100 billion cash surplus, I don't think they will miss anything less than $100 million. That's like writing a check for $1 on an account with a $1000 balance.

Initial leaks seem to show the HD is using the S4 SoC. If this is true it will likely have the same radios as the GS3 since the are on the same die as the CPU/GPU.

I may have waited for the HD if it hadn't been for my desire to keep unlimited data for a little longer. Pairing the efficiency of the S4 with a razr maxx 3300 mAh battery is going to equal amazing battery life!

Exactly that's what makes the claim of the Nexus causing irreparable harm so proposterous. The phones horrid radio reception probably did Apple more good than harm people will now assume all Samsung phones get terrible reception after owning the Nexus.

The first Siri commercials asked "What does a weasel look like?" Seeing that a picture of Steve Jobs didn't pop up proves that Siri is useless and this injunction is baseless.

I think we over estimate how many people (phone buyers) have the same following and understanding that we forum users have, and most know next to nothing about these things.

A evidence to this, have you noticed that when you go into a phone store the customers are asking what we consider basic questions? Buying old technology, looking for the $49.00 special or free phone, basing phone decisions on color and what their friends have, or other criteria that we consider a bit non relevant.

I was at T-Mobile Saturday and of the 5 customers in there, none were looking at the S3. Now, I'm not saying that everyone wants the latest and greatest, just that there really aren't many who know about bad radio issues and such.

Not sure where the sightings in store thread disappeared to so ill post in here. Got to play with one at Tmobile in Nashua Nh.

1. The phone is purple, there is no doubt in my mind now. It's a nice shade of purple but if you asked anyone what color your phone was. They will say purple and I will put money on it. It is so purple i don't even detect any blues at all on it and may actually swap it out for a white now.

2. Finish on the back is nice, very thick with whatever they put on it. Makes it feel somewhat solid even though it isnt.

3. Why is there so much lag hitting the home button to get back to the home screen???? Very annoying in the 5 or 10 minutes of trying it out. Every single time i hit the home button it was about .5 seconds to react.

4. Could not do any web browsing or anything requiring internet. No connection at the store.

5. Screen is very nice and HUGE compared to the Gnex IMO. Most likely because even though the Gnex had a 4.65", only 4.3" was visible unless you were watching movies(because of the onscreen buttons)

6. Overall the device did not feel big at all to me, maybe a tad bigger than the Gnex.

7. Camera was stellar from the in store shots i took. This takes care of my biggest complaint with the Gnex and main reason i returned it a few months ago. The camera at first glance is as good as my 4s is.

It's just Steve Jobs legacy being played out. Sad really IMO, that such a brilliant man leave a legacy of hatred behind.

Well, he was an Ahole, but admitted he was and did a lot more good for the consumer than bad. High end smart phones and tablets would not be so common, nor would Android be so "open" to differentiate and a ton of other things.

Also, like it or not, he helped to establish the Atari console and some games for it, prior to Apple so part of the path to consumer home gaming.

We could go dark about the Apple product facilities in Asia, but that impacts far more then just Apple products or electronics.

I read that this is because S-voice is launched with a double press of the home button. If you go into settings and disable S-voice launching via the home button it is supposed to eliminate the lag.

1. The phone was very very clearly blue to me so I guess it depends on the person. A lot of other people would agree with me, but a lot of people could agree with you too. Overall, I'm pleased with the color. However, the home button does indeed have a purplish tint to it but not so much that it bothers me.

2. I agree, device feels very solid.

3. I believe this is because of S Voice... disable S Voice (you can do it through the settings on the app) and it'll be a lot quicker going to the home screen.

4. Probably didnt have a simcard in it. I went to two TMobile stores, one had a white unit on display with no connection at all. The other didnt have one on display so the guy went and found a pebble blue unit and let me play around with for a while and it had a working connection.

5. Again, agreed.

6. This is due to how they designed it, I was pleasantly surprised with the size to. After getting to play with the phone with it not being attached to any security chords, i have to say it feels great in hand.

7. I'm no camera junkie, but the camera did look pretty nice in store

I played with one in a tmo store today and it made me feel that much better about my decision. There was no lag whatsoever and the phone was loaded with all kinds of stuff that people downloaded to it. It blew my nexus and maxx out of the water in terms of smoothness. It also feels really thin almost thinner than my maxx and does not feel large at all. The blue definitely is more purple than anything but it isn't a barney purple it is like a purple mixed with gun metal grey if that makes sense. I also noticed no lag when pushing the home button to go back to the home screen.

I agree. I know friends who their whole family has the nexus and never complain about reception or anything. They have no idea about "how the radios suck" because for them they aren't into the latest and greatest or read forums like these.

On a side note I could not figure out how to blow up a web site and then double tap for the text to reflow on the screen like I do on my zoom, is there a setting for that or did samsung eliminate it (that would suck, deal breaker no but I really like that feature on androids)?
This is one of the things I love the most about my Incredible (auto-reflow) and miss the most on my Thrive. Half of the time I can't even get the double tap to reflow to work on the Thrive browser. I think all the developers must just be really young and have great vision, not lame eyes like me. I always have to zoom in quite a bit and really use the auto-reflow.

No wait, the thing I hate the most about my Thrive is that the normal vs mobile web view won't stick and I have to keep resetting it.

You were in a T-Mobile store where their accent lighting is pink, which is why the phone looked purple. I saw the same thing in the T-Mobile store I went to. I did my best to shield the phone from the pink lighting and it looked dark blue to me once I did that. Unfortunately I couldn't take it outside to verify, but I'm confident it's not purple.

3. Why is there so much lag hitting the home button to get back to the home screen???? Very annoying in the 5 or 10 minutes of trying it out. Every single time i hit the home button it was about .5 seconds to react.

I don't get that either. I hope that's not how they all are, or if they are all like that hopefully there's a way to fix it.

4. Could not do any web browsing or anything requiring internet. No connection at the store.

They might be trying to mask the bad reception in your area? :D It was very fast where I was. 4G icon was on (is that the default icon or is it really 4G?) and browsing was very fast. They didn't have a Google account tied to it so I couldn't go to the Play store and download the bandwidth test app, but I realized later that I should have just browsed to the site--duh.

Well, after finally being able to see the blue and white side-by-side at a Sprint store today, looks like I'll be paying Verizon an extra $35 to switch to white after my blue S3 arrives. It'll be my first white phone ever.
